  1. You lost me when you complained about not being able to "mess around" in a cruise ship cabin with your kids in the room. Realistic expectations don't seem to be at the forefront, which puts context to your other complaints. I truly hope you can find a ship in the future that suits your desires.

Editing to say sorry, didn't realize this thread was so old. Wouldn't have posted if I had seen that.

  2. Just off the Liberty.

Bought a 10-drink card (shareable; my wife and I split it) for $75 (plus 18%, of course) about Day 5. Came out okay. Some wine with dinner, a couple of pina coladas (tasty but weak).

Drinks of the day were $9.75 (plus 18%, of course), regular price about $13 (plus...well, you know), I think. I didn't buy any.

I'm not a big drinker, and the 10-drink card worked out fine.

We’ll be on the Liberty in a couple of weeks. Do you remember which day of the cruise these cards came out and where they were being offered? Thanks.

  3. RCI really needs to get with the program here and offer a way to communicate intra-ship. This is something that shocked me even back in 2012 on our very first cruise. This is a real headache when we travel with our kids, let alone with other adults

  4. Chiming in here to say that yes, I think Royal's drink prices are very high. $10 for a basic cocktail is just stupid IMO. For those saying, well we pay similar prices at our local bars, I just don't get your point. So you enjoy paying high prices everywhere?

Since we started cruising with Royal in 2012, my basic rum and coke went from a reasonable $6.50 or so to about $10, roughly a 50% increase.

  5. How about....?

(May require some advance work to make it happen)

    1. A visit to the Bridge.

    2. Family Dinner with the Captain and Officers.

    3. A ''behind the scenes'' ship tour.

    4. Happy Birthday 'sing-along' in the theater.

    5. And........family photos of the event(s).

These are great!!!!! Thank you! Not sure they’ve ever done a behind the scenes ship tour. That may be perfect.

  6. I would think being on a cruise together would be PLENTY for an older person who really isn't into "birthdays" anymore. I know I am happy to just be acknowledge nowadays....don't need a fuss!

It is very special. We’ve done two other cruises together and it is a wonderful time for us, with memories that will last a lifetime.

We get birthday gifts for our parents every year and this won’t be any different. Just looking for something that may be more memorable than other years. At our age gifts can get pretty mundane :) so this is a great opportunity to make this one stand out.

  7. So we'll be on the 12/31 sailing, on the Liberty. It's my family of five and my MIL and FIL. 12/31 just so happens to be my MIL's birthday. (y) Looking for ideas to celebrate (as if New Year's eve won't be enough of a celebration! :) )

I've looked at the birthday packages and they just seem like a lot of $$$ for what you get, plus she doesn't drink much so the champagne :bottle-pop: would be mostly wasted. We enjoy eating together in the MDR, so a specialty restaurant probably isn't the best idea either. Not sure what else that leaves us?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Not really a secret, but the helicopter pad is an interesting spot to visit for sailaway and to look at stars at night.

Agree! Watching the stars on the helipad is a must do for us and the kids, multiple times, on each cruise. Love the ability to see so many stars with the warm breeze flowing over the ship.

Just watch out for kids laying down on the helipad!!! We've seen this on numerous cruises and have to be careful not to step right on them. It's almost pitch black up there, so it's easy to miss them. :)

  9. Yes, the burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc.. were free on the Aug 6th sailing on the Equinox. Great fries.

Regarding Sushi on 5, we ate there twice for lunch and loved it both times. There was a wait on the last sea day for lunch. It seemed to get decent demand while we were on the ship.

  10. Was just wondering this same thing lately...

How crowded do the inside pools get on an Alaskan cruise? If we did an Alaskan cruise with X, it would probably be on the Solstice. We would also be with our 3 kids (16, 14, 11 at time of cruise). Can someone confirm when the "family" hours are in the indoor Solarium pool?

    Thanks kindly,

    Dan
