  1. Call first thing Tuesday am due to Monday holiday.  I had the same thing happen. I didn’t realize our final payment was due. No reminder???  Tried to call on Saturday. Closed. Called first thing Monday morning.. no problem making final payment even though it was technically late…I got up at 6 am ca time to be early in call cue. Still had to wait for 20 minutes.

My understanding is that cruise ship HVAC is designed to maintain constant fresh air flow and positive pressure in cabins (this also prevents air from the corridor infiltrating the cabin).  When you open the balcony door, the AC turns off but you have fresh air from the balcony.  [I'm not an engineer, so this may not be a technically perfect explanation...]

But doesn’t this impact other cabins? I have always been told to never do this!

  3. A valuable discussion! Things have changed greatly in the world. There have been a lot of stressors the last two years and I think everyone has a mild ( or not mild) level of anger and anxiety. Confusing communication  just adds to that. The world needs a big hug right now.
Also port changes.. that has happened to us many times cruising. ( fingers crossed for Mykonos this summer!) but I think the whole Covid situation has amplified the anxiety level to a new high. At least it has for me. I know seas can be rough.. ports missed.. It’s one thing to travel and not have the right tonic I like. It’s another to plan to travel in a suite and end up stuck in a tiny room in the bowels of the ship really sick.

However, if the number of COVID related messages in this forum is indicative of the type of people actually going on the cruise, then there is a very “real” level of stress to the system related to COVID.

I am feeling that stress. We are long time cruisers on products from Royal Viking to carnival to regent. but this is our first Azamara booking. I know the uncertainty of Covid makes it difficult to predict things but this customer service situation is the worst I have see on any cruise line we have traveled. Everything is confusing and the daily weekly changes to the testing etc are so anxiety inducing. Add to that the difficulty in contacting the cruise line. Very stressful.

I second the Electra Palace - great location and some wonderful views from the roof top terrace or from some rooms.  We stayed there for a week in 2013.

We have stayed there three times and loved the location. Nice rooftop restaurant. This year we couldn’t get reservations so we are trying the Grand Bretagne.

  6. With the threat of cancelled flights from london to Greece added to the mix our long awaited trip is Turning into nightmare. Testing before we leave US, testing in Greece , if we can get there. The threat of positive tests in Greece, positive tests in the cruise and then the possibility of becoming very ill  on the ship. Will they have the anti virus drug? Every day it looks more unpromising😬😬😬

  7. Quite honestly all of this is so discouraging to me. A trip constantly worrying about whether I am going to get sick does not seem fun to me. 8 months ago when I booked this the world seemed to be heading in a lot more positive direction. Now with the vaccines not working anymore to prevent most cases I am a bit scared about being stranded in a foreign county with a serious illness. Will the boat have the medicine we need to combat it if we are symptomatic? No one seems to think they will? Really?

  8. Please note that some of the data on the Azamara site is dated. For example: Greece just removed all Covid restrictions for visiting.  Nothing is required. Italy is changing their restrictions too.

  9. Again thanks for the response. I will check out the section you recommend. Obviously one can get sick on any cruise. And two months from now who knows. There could be another variant.  We have only done three tests, all self tests, as we have been fairly prudent in our activities. We have traveled a bit,. Hawaii, east coast last fall.
this summer is our longest trip ever.. our trip is 46 days, 4 days getting to cruise ship. 21 day cruise b2b and then 18 days in rented homes in the country in England. The England part I am not concerned about. And we can make the cruise work if we have too.
Hey, I was on a Royal Viking line world cruise that hit a reef in sharm el sheik Egypt in 1996.  We had to be evacuated from the ship after it almost sank.  We ended up in Egypt with a fabulous guide that ignited a life Long love of archeology.  So I guess I will have to think of this as an adventure. I am oldish but healthy so far. And I do want to travel. A dear friend we met through archeology is the enrichment lecturer for these cruises so that’s our motivation for booking.

  10. Thanks for the response. Do they isolate you in your cabin? Till you reach debarkation point? Then where do you go? To a country defined isolation place? Then who determines when you get out of it? The country? And how many cases are the cruise lines having? My cousin is on a Viking river cruise and two of the 6 friends she is traveling with were sent back to Amsterdam and are in isolation in a hotel? I would not want to be put off the ship is say Slovenia or even a small town in Greece? Can you rejoin the cruise when you are out of quarantine. When we booked this cruise in October I thought this whole mess would be over. Really looking forward to a fun 21 days in the med. nice cabin! Etc.have heard such good things about Azamara.   😬😬😬

That’s probably a smart idea.  I may have to try that next cruise.

Our cruise in Dec., a few tables were called at a time up to the buffet to reduce crowding and of course, we were the last one!  We did wait a long time to eat and got what was leftover.

These days with no masks I would never eat at a buffet. In fact I am not a fan of buffets at any time..

Thanks for sharing this information gwilli. We are also staying near Venice airport supposedly making it easy to pick up the shuttle bus there. So this is not good news but thank goodness I’m keeping a very close eye on Cruise Critic because I’ve heard nothing from Azamara about this latest change! I’m getting rather frustrated and concerned about the lack of clear communication from Azamara about the various changes they have made. Just hoping that the on-board experience will be better.

The changes are mind boggling and the lack of ease of ability to communicate gives me pause.  Close to cancelling everything. No confidence in the cruise line at all,
