  1. On all the ones I've been on since the restart (5) across different lines the rooms are open announcement came at the same time as before. However in walking around sometimes I've noticed the doors opened before the announcement, but it was not universal...a floor by floor basis. Like deck 6 was open but 7 was not. But I had seen that happen before.

I wouldn't count on them being open before the 1-2pm time frame.

Is there any insurance policies that cover the onboard medical charges.

Most travel insurance should cover it. But you'd have to pay up front and make sure to get your records before you get off the ship. A lot of travel insurance is secondary, meaning you'd have to submit it to your regular health insurance and then after they do what they do submit whatever wasn't paid to travel insurance. The travel insurance may or may not have a deductible. It also may or may not cover preexisting conditions.

  3. Royal pricing changes all the time so the range is just whether it's on sale or not, not different packages. They only have one for drinks. That's the same for the water package, but you get water with the drink package so it's a waste of money if you ask me to buy it. Just get a bottle of water everything you head to your room.

I thought at one time you could differentiate which balcony GTY you wanted on line, but apparently that option no longer exists.  (Or is buried somewhere not obvious to find).

That to me is a negative because I am pretty sure if they would issue any balcony off the GTY that the pricing may not be as attractive as "one size fits all "as it would be with options for the two basic categories.  I would also agree that I think that it would be more likely that the neighborhood balconies would be assigned before the OV's.

That would be one reason IMO to use a TA as they can access the neighborhood options and pricing.

When I looked at one specific sailing the generic balcony gty was either the same price or practically the same as the neighborhood gty on a TA website. Dunno whether that's always the case or just happened to be on that sailing.

If people don't realize it includes neighborhood balconies that gty price looks good as it was significantly less than the cheapest ocean view balcony. At least 300pp.

  5. Royal has added a generic balcony gty for Oasis class that isn't neighborhood or ocean view specific. Which means it could be any balcony and very likely will be a neighborhood one.

When I was looking at one sailing royal only offered the generic one that was cheaper than a neighborhood balcony. A TA website offered the specific gty options, but I didn't actually book to verify if the TA actually could book it or not.

Joking aside, why do you think our stateroom "fridges" don't get cold?  Saving energy?

Because they're not traditional fridges. Or at least most of the ones I've seen on ships aren't. They're like wine fridges - they cool but can only do so far from the ambient temperatures. (Lacking a compressor I believe.) They can work quite well, but when you put them in the cabinet the effort of cooling actually warms up the ambient temperature quite a lot and the fridge can only cool it down X number of degrees. (This is why wine fridges that go in cabinets are so expensive - they need to be a full fridge) I think it's around 40 degrees, but I'm too lazy to look it up. So for example the ambient air is 80 it can only go down to 40 but if it's 100 then it can't go below 60.

A trick is to leave the door cracked open. That keeps the ambient air around the fridge from getting too hot so it can cool lower. I usually just take a wash cloth and throw it over the door near the hinges. (Cabinet door in case I need to be specific lol) Keeps it open enough so my drinks get down to a decent temperature but minimizes me running into the darn thing.

  7. Problem is they booked 1 parent and 1 kid in each room because they kids were too young to be in a cabin by themselves. Presumably their original cabins weren't right next to each other.

OP isn't very clear in what they're asking making it hard to get answers in both their threads.

They had 2 balconies with each having only one parent and one kid. One cabin got a royal up bid to the CL. So now he has access to all the suite perks and his wife doesn't. He's trying to rectify it.

It might be cheaper to just upgrade the other balcony than trying to get the other two in the CL. You'd have to get FCC for the canceled cabin and it wouldn't be available to put them in the CL. Plus since it was a royal up the whole price of the cabin would be repriced instead of just the 3 & 4 passenger rates.

This is why you read all the terms before you do something.

  8. So is this supposedly happening to families with unvax kids in the 5-11 range so they can hit the 5% or less unvax rate? And it's believable because harmony is bigger so can have more unvax kids?

I highly doubt they'd move you from indy (maybe Mariner) to harmony for free. Just doesn't make sense. Plus I believe emails changing or canceling your cruise are usually signed by the VP of customer experience (I think that's the right title).

I could be wrong, but my guess is BS.

Yup....not as they state it.  😞  We were let in just a couple of minutes before 11 am.  Had 11am boarding time.  There was no flexibility on that early boarding time.

OP:  Don't show up early.   You won't like it.

I think it's an hour before your time as long as the terminal is open. Not surprised they don't open it up early. So if the first check in time is 11 the only time it's a benefit is if you got a checkin time 1130 or later.

Thanks. We booked this cruise quite awhile ago. Kind of crazy that we would need to be tested up to 4 times to take this cruise...

You're not having to be tested 4 times to cruise - You're choosing to add extra days before and after that mean you need to test two additional times. If you cut back on the extra days you wouldn't need to extra tests.

I must be unlucky as I've been impacted at least half a dozen times. Sept is the top of hurricane season. My car was wiped away from hurricane Ike and it was totalled. Last sept my car was in 100 mph winds in the parking lot.

Lol you're the opposite of me! Sept 2021 was the first time I cruised in September and didn't have a hurricane following me home. All other times 2-5 days after I got home a hurricane was hitting Florida. I had started telling people to stock up on supplies when I booked.

  12. OP might want to rethink getting a rental car in Seattle. Depending what you want to do for the two days you're there... the rental car might just be a burden. It's not really a parking friendly city... you'll be paying everywhere you go and the hotels I've stayed in charged $35/night to park. Those fees alone would likely cover an uber from airport to hotel and hotel to pier. Then there's the cost of the rental and parking for wherever you want to visit.

Honestly both times I've visited I walked almost everywhere. Grabbed the train or monorail or bus when needed. Besides getting to the pier I only used rideshares once when I was just too lazy at night. My hotels were within two blocks of the train so just paid $3 for that.

We have done Star class twice and have another one this August. We have 8 of us and in our case it’s cheaper than having everyone in Sky class. Have done the 1 bdr AQ suite twice and have the 4 bdr villa on Harmony.

We have never felt the genie is “sniffing “ for a tip. With two young kids in our group, the genie provides exactly what they will eat and it’s delivered to the room. Very convenient.

Not sure we would ever do it for just two of us, then it gets expensive per person.

Sigh I wish I knew enough people I could convince this isn't that much.

  14. Yikes! I hope your recovery goes smoothly. If you're looking for a silver lining, in the process of me recovering from a badly sprained ankle twice I heard that while the recovery is longer (and rougher with the long no weight bearing part) that if it's just broken bones it heals much better than a sprain. So I'm hoping that for you, because I still curse my badly sprained twice ankle.
