  1. We had two what looked like Swifts flying behind and landing on Britannia on the sea day coming back to Southampton from Bergen. I spoke to one of the waiters on the deck bar and he told me they are not allowed to feed or water the birds or assist them in any way as they would be 'told off' He went on by saying the birds would have to be reported to the environmental officer.

The two birds seemed more than happy to be there and were not resting for long on the ship and off they would go again. I saw them at 7am and they were still there in the evening. I hope they made it all the way to England but will never know.

  2. In my opinion the only reason to do a two nighter is if you have two ships in mind but want to see them first. Other than that they are rushed and you may be put off cruising as you will think a real cruise would be the same, it isn't believe me.

However if you treat it as just a weekend away and don't relate it to a cruise then go for it. I live in Southampton so it would be easy for me but one was enough and that was sometime ago.

  3. I tried one of these free coffees, a so called Cappuccino, after dinner recently on Ventura, it was weak and tasted a bit like dishwater, and took much longer to be served. After that I stuck with the regular coffee which is just about OK.

We are taking our Canadian SIL and BIL on Ventura next month, we have cruised with them on Celebrity and RCI before, but I am rather nervous that P&O might just be a little too "British" even for Canadian tastes.

We had an American couple on our last holiday and they loved the Britishness of the ship and fellow passengers. They weren't just being polite they were really into it especially the sailaway which we tend to dodge. They did mention though that the British don't do real burgers:)

  4. We have been told 'Anything not right in your cabin contact your cabin steward'.

That cabin steward was not doing his job.

Now with more experience I realise this but at the time I thought he was just unhelpful. I left the gratuity on but never gave him extra and yes I marked him down although he made great effort in asking me to give him top rating. I had only cruised once prior and was unsure of things. Now with three done and another booked I'm a bit wiser than I was.

  5. We both put our night clothes in a cupboard as well but never thought of the sheets etc. I guess it's because night attire is personal but bedding isnt as everyone uses sheets etc. It's like flannels it's more personal than towels.............

As for requests being refused last year the safe wouldn't work properly so I asked the steward and he said it's nothing to do with him and I would have to go to reception to report it. Also the TV had a broken bracket and was at an angle which made it impossible to view in bed! Again it wasn't my problem was the reply from him. Overall he was ok but certainly not helpful.......

  6. I noticed the carpeted stairs too on the recent Transatlantic, also the walls around the area had been covered up,I guess to protect them,so I just assumed that they has started work on the staircase already.

I'm glad you noticed it as well which proves I wasn't seeing things after an evening in Brodie's ;)

  7. The stairs I saw were fully carpeted and looked like the rest of the stairs. There was another chap in the lift who also commented on it. To be honest the lack of centre stairs wasn't a problem to me as I just walked to another set and used them but there were many comments on it as there were last time I was on.

  8. Just had my second cruise on Britannia which was great the same as last time and nothing has changed from two years ago. One thing surprised me though when in the centre lifts the doors opened at deck seven I think it was and engineers had opened the wall opposite the lifts and were working there. Behind the wall are carpeted stairs exactly the same as the lifts fore and aft. I assumed the stairs were non existent but there they were large as life:o

The brass neck of some people....in Headliners one evening a man sat in the audience and was openly smoking a vape! As a smoker of real cigarettes myself it didn't bother me but others around him were obviously annoyed but nobody said a word........

Great cruise so good that two days after getting home I booked again for next year:)

  9. My loyalty tier isn't showing either on my account or cruise personaliser. I rang them yesterday evening and was told I have no points! He then went away for what seemed a very long time and when he returned he said they had rebooted the computer and they would show in 24 - 48 hours............I won't be holding my breath ;)

  10. Outside a church close to the shops is where we were dropped off. Pick up was same place. Half an hour after the first drop off the buses were as full going back to the ship as they were leaving it. If I ever go there again I will definitely book an excursion.

  11. Do you have any recommendations as to how to spend the day?

My wife and I went into town on the shuttle bus but I went back to the ship after half an hour. My wife came back three hours later after doing 'some shopping' I found the place boring but my wife loved it.

I was happy being on board drinking coffee and watching the world go by.

  12. I have never removed the 'service charge' and said I never will but this time I will be removing them and envelope tip to the same amount or even above that amount. I have two reasons for doing so and they are the letter going to those who remove them via the cabin and yesterday's P&O email bribery about the staff! Altogether there are six of us travelling and we have all agreed to do this. We are going to hate doing it but raising the service charge after we booked, the letter and the email all adds up to a very bad taste in the mouth.

This may be a one off and next time I may revert to automatically paying it as yet I'm undecided but on our up coming cruise I will make a very strong point of removing it.

Rightly or wrongly it's my choice but I will always tip one way or the other and P&O can go whistle Dixie

  13. I have three first names (blame my Dad) and I put all three down which goes onto their computer system but only my first and surname goes on my Cruise personaliser. The first time it happened I asked them and they said no worries as long as your name on your passport matches the name on our systems. To be honest I think it makes little difference but I prefer to put all three then I can't be blamed if anything goes wrong at check in and it never has.

  14. Before I retired I was a shuttle bus driver for the ships crews and frequently watched drivers take cars from passengers and park them up in the docks. As far as I can remember I never saw any untoward driving or problems with parking the cars up. Also the cars that get parked up in the docks stay in the docks and are not moved to other areas once the ships sails. If I didn't live in Southampton and had to drive to the docks I would have no fear in leaving my car. Obviously I can only say what I saw and can't speak for others which are parked outside the docks but I've heard nothing bad about them.

  15. We received our holiday pack, including labels, 3 days ago.

Today, the cruise personaliser is still showing as Not Available.

    ??? Answers on a postcard please [emoji12]

I had my pack about a month ago and the personaliser updated two weeks later.

  16. I have often had the same thoughts but having cruise with several other cruise lines I have come to the conclusion that they all sell the same things regardless of their target market. I just wonder how they make a profit because they don't seem to have many customers other than in the duty free shop where there always seems to be people buy cigarettes and alcohol.

People expect shops so they have them and what profit they do make is profit to the company that runs them and the cruise company. If there were no shops all that space would have to be filled by something either more seating, tables etc or some other attraction for passengers. I would rather have shops than Burger King or McDonalds.

I'm always amazed how many people buy the gold chain on a roll from the 'sale' stalls that spring up towards the end of the cruise :o;)
