  1. Does anyone know why August 26th is the last date for the Homeland cruise? Also, do the on board shops and port stops have sales like in Alaska at the end of the cruise season?
  2. I sure will! You're a BIG help! Thanks!
  3. Thanks Hallasm, That's GREAT news! My tickets are for August '24 and I've heard wonderful things about SAS. Your confirmation and help are much appreciated.
  4. Has anyone flown SAS out of LAX (recently)? We have premium Economy seats (are they worth the extra cost?) and flying to Copenhagen, Denmark. I know once you are in Europe that all seats are the same. πŸ™‚ From Copenhagen we fly to Stockholm. I was wondering what happens once you transfer at this point. Are the SAS connections easy to find? Do we have to move our luggage ourselves? Go through customs again? We've never done this before and have some (small) anxiety.
  5. We have a booking on SAS from LAX to Copenhagen. The times are perfect, the airline ( I've been told ) is great and we paid for a upgrade to premium. I'm really wondering about things I've heard with flights being changed and losing our premium seats. This is our first cruise with Viking and we're doing the Homelands cruise next August. I'm torn over wanting our TA to insist on ticketing the flights and holding off. I'd hate to be changed as the flight are great. Funny how they already have our money!
  6. So how do you check out flights? Do you just Google your closest airport to the airport you are going to? Sorry, I'm a novice at this. πŸ₯΄
  7. I know there's lots of controversy regarding airlines, how to book and what to book. On MVJ it says Viking will book tickets starting in May of 2024 for a Cruise that is in August. That leaves only 3 months to get the best flight and seats for us. I have a TA and Air +. Should I insist the TA book now or what? I don't want to be a pain but don't want to get stuck on horrible flights either.
  8. WHAT? Holy COW! That's awful. We have a TA and Air Plus, so I hope that doesn't happen to us.
  9. We're going to the Homeland cruise in August and have Air plus. Why is Bergen a challenge?
  10. We'll be traveling from LAX for our cruise that starts in Stockholm. My question is, which airlines and what layover is usually used? We'd prefer Virgin Atlantic but don't really expect it. We know there will probably be a layover and I've heard London or maybe Amsterdam. We have Air Plus as well as a TA. Anyone have any insight? Also, the MV site says ticketing starts in May of 24 for our trip which is the end of August. The TA says they usually start booking about 300 days out. How confusing!
  11. Also a California Girl, also a long time Princess cruiser and dissatisfied with what they have become and also a first time Viking cruiser. We go next year on the Homeland Cruise, Stockholm Sweden to Bergen Norway. The Viking website has tons of information as does YouTube. You don't pay for restaurants on Viking. 😁
  12. Funny you should say that, if it weren't for my 5 grandkids and 4 great grandkids, I'd love to move to Texas and leave the quagmire of California. πŸ˜‚ Well, except for Austin or Houston. πŸ˜‚
  13. I started a thread on the roll call forum and need to delete it as our plans changed. I can't find instructions for the life of me. HELP.
  14. We'll be taking this cruise next August. Thank you so much for posting!
  15. Viking appears to realize and accept responsibility for a less than ideal cruise that so many wrote about. What was an 8 day cruise St. Louis to St. Paul will now be 12 days. We received an email stating that they knew there were problems and are working hard to correct them. It will now start with 2 nights stay at a St. Louis hotel and end the same in St. Paul. ( We will be getting this addition free as we paid well in advance .) I appreciate their willingness to make the trip better. This is for me, a genealogy type trip. I had a large number of family that lived in St. Louis 100 years ago and would like to do a bit of a look see. I also love that there will be Norwegian history as I had family in the St. Paul area, also 100 years ago. The best of both worlds. 😁 Unfortunately, I don't see much written about this itinerary.
  16. Oh my! Now I'm a bet scared. We cruise the upper Mississippi Sept 2024 and our reservation is already paid for. I guess I'm just going to hope for the best. It's to be a "genealogy tour," of sorts. We checked out other lines and weren't in love with what we saw, we WERE in love with what we saw Viking had to offer. I'll keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer.
  17. Dh and I have been on Sea Cruises and know the routine with luggage tags and medallions. Most is done on line now. What can I expect from Viking? I've read everything from a Back Pack to other "goodies," but not sure where I read it. Thank you.
  18. GREAT tip! That's exactly what I was looking for. 😍
  19. Thank you so much for your insight! It really helps.
  20. I'd like my husband to get a wee bit of a look and feel of Germany due to his genealogy. 😍His father's background is Bavarian, Austrian and German. Looking over the different routs the ships take, I can't figure out which one to take/book. πŸ€ͺ I'm really looking forward to a River Cruise as it seems just what the doctor ordered. We're kind of burned out on Ocean cruises. πŸ˜…
  21. I was just wondering about this thread and curiosity got to me, seeing as it's over 53 pages long. It's 53 pages of people saying how much they dislike the smell of smoke! I just find it a bit funny. I thought something had changed. It's been this way for many years now, only about 4 places where people smoke. I always saw on the maps they gave you, where it was a smoking area. Just a thought.
  22. We'll be leaving in 3 weeks and I've seen 2 different answers to the question: 1. I need to take a picture of my covid vax. 2. I don't need to. HELP! Which is it without having to read 92 pages of info about it. πŸ€ͺ We will be cruising From Calif to Mexico.
  23. No no no, not on a buffet line. It was usually at the steak house and served with Fry's and mushy peas. It used to be only served once on a 7 day cruise and twice on a 14 day for lunch. I had the same in the UK a few times just last year, and it WAS better! πŸ˜€
  24. Does anyone know if they still have the pub lunch? Their fish and chips was the best I've ever tasted!
