  1. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this great review. We just got off of Independence on Saturday and while on board booked Oasis for April 2015, along with Explorer in July and October. She is our favorite and will be sorry to see her leave. But we look forward to Oasis just for the sheer magnitude of her offerings. Your review is increasing our excitement. Did you go to the Diamond Lounge at all? The CL looked very nice.

Glad you are enjoying the review. We did not get to the diamond lounge. Sorry. Too much to do so little time. You will love oasis!

  2. So enjoying your review! We are going on Oasis in January so I am "taking notes". :) When you mentioned reservations opened early? How early? When did you book specialty dining and shows?

And just out of curiosity, when you met with the coordinator how did they work with your son on how to propose? Did it really seem worth the additional cost? What was all included?

I think they opened up about 3 months before. We met wiith the coordinator on the ship the first day of the criuise. We worked with royal romance for about 3 months before. It was definitely worth it because we had a very elaborate event planned. I was very pleased with the outcome. It included a coordinator before and on cruise. Breakfast in bed on day of choice with champagne. Rose and chocolate covered strawberries. Photographer for an hour. And of course set up and coordination of event. Ours included the towel animal zoo and set up of bed of roses, the champage and of course ring set up on stuffed lambs. I also ordered the cake for chops dinner that the coordinator then helped arrange. In our case i could not have pulled it off without royal romance.

  3. As previously noted, I think RCCL did a great job with the DreamWorks Experience. They are not trying to be Disney and there are not characters running around the ship all the time. They are there for pictures and parades and certain specific activities. The parade is really done well. There are great viewing locations all along the promenade. Again, kudos to RCCL for the their great management of crowds. With all these people, it was amazing how well coordinated and unstressful the parade experience was. No pushing, shoving or people standing in front of me. I went down to the promenade about 20 minutes before the scheduled time (12:30 I think) and got a nice spot and had a great view and plenty of space (I have space issues so this was amazing). The parade was fun and wonderful and I got to see my fav character Puss and Boots (otherwise know to our family as Evander)!

  4. Day 5 was another wonderful sea day. I love that there are 3 sea days on this ship because there is so much to do, it is really needed and actually still not enough to experience it all. I will skip the pool and outdoor spaces since I reviewed them for Day 1. Today I will go over some additional interior spaces and the parade before moving on to the evening activities.

  5. Sorry for not getting day 5 yet. Been a busy weekend. Show with friend John Eddie, family visit. Our cat has been sick and has to go to vet today and then that little thing called a job gets in the way all the time. Will do my best to post day 5 later. It is the parade, second formal and some general ship areas and night shots of pools and viking crown. Stay tuned...

  6. Falmouth

The plan for today was for the “kids” to go on a tour and we would take the moms shopping inside the gated area. Rob and Amanda went to Dunn’s River Falls and on the bobsled and they really liked it. They loved the ride up the mountain and they said the bobsled was a lot of fun. They said they did not use the break at all, LOL. Yes, it is a pretty long ride, they said about 45 minutes, but I think it just needs to be put into perspective. This ship is big, it needs special treatment so if you want to ride on this big lady, you need to understand the limitations and go with it…or don’t go on her miss a lot of awesomeness and focus on ports. And yes, there are some not so pleasant sights, but go into with that understanding. The world is full of diversity; some of it good, some of it not so good, but it is there. I try to make the best of it and look at the positive in my vacations. They are too precious to complain about.

Tom and I took the moms into the gated shopping area. It is touristy and cute. A little hard to get around with wheel chairs since the walks are cobbled and the stores get very crowded. We did not venture out of the compound and it was fine for what it was.

We went to the ship relatively early and relaxed by the uncrowded pool. We ate in the main dining room, nothing much else to add there. Tomorrow is the second sea day and the Move it Move it Parade and some other area of the ship. I will get to most of them...eventually. Stay tuned.

  7. Windjammer

We decided to take the moms to the Windjammer this morning for breakfast. I had set out to avoid this place at all costs, but we decided to give it a try with the moms for the variety. Turned out to be perfectly fine and a good choice with two elderly people in wheel chairs that have weird eating habits. I was afraid the quality had gone down since my last cruise but everything was fresh and hot and there was a large variety. Still love my vanilla pastries and they were as good as I remembered. No, it is not gourmet food, but that is not what it sets out to be. There was everything you could need in terms of breakfast items, from fruit, to eggs, to cold cuts, to breakfast meets, to pancakes, to French toast to pastries. No, it doesn’t really change daily, but how much can they change everything. We never had trouble finding a table, even with the wheel chairs. RCCL really does a great job with crowd control on this ship. So after my initial negative feelings about the Windjammer, it still works.

    Next Up Falmouth

  8. Sorry I got side tracked yesterday. We had a show with our friend John Eddie, so I had to change gears for a while. I really appreciate all your sweet and generous comments. So, I am back and we are on to Day 4.

I hope I can continue to entertain you.

    A Ghost Story

I hope you will forgive me and indulge me a bit while I digress. If you don’t want to hear my ghost story just skip this section. About 5 years ago, at 53, my cousin Chris, and last remaining family member on my father’s side died of a massive heart attack, suddenly. About a year prior he was supposed to get married, bought a diamond, a house on the water and discovered his recovering heroin addict fiancée was not recovering at all. So the house on the water remained vacant and the diamond went into the safe deposit box. And then he died, and I lost the last of my bloodline to my dad’s crazy family. Being the last family member I inherited everything including the difficult responsibility of carrying on the legacy…and the diamond. I won’t go into it in too much detail but for many reasons I know Chris is still with me. I have his music box that it plays randomly when I am upset, without opening the lid or anyone being near it. Chris had a fear of dark and we have had the strangest electrical issues over the past 5 years, including lights going on and off randomly. OK, so now to the point, a few months before he died Chris took a cruise, he loved to cruise. That cruise ship was Serenade of the Seas. The diamond that Rob gave Amanda was Chris’s diamond that he was supposed to use. So as we are pulling into Falmouth and I see there is another ship there, that ship was Serenade of the Seas. So what, you might say, but then we got Cozumel, our next port and what ship pulls in next to us…Serenade of the Seas. Coincidence…I think not. ..

Here’s you my beloved cousin, you are at peace now, and you wanted to join us in the celebration didn’t you?

    Pulling into Falmouth

  9. Laura ~ enjoying your review. Missed seeing you at the Meet and Mingle. Were you there???

Also I have a few photos of you and your party hanging the banner on your balcony. I took them from across the way on Deck 11 public balcony.

We have also been very busy since our return, and I have been writing as you an see. Will check out our roll call. Thank you so very much. Hope to meet up with you some day!

You have left me speechless, thank you so much for your kind words. It is much appreciated. I will try not to disappoint with the rest. Glad you like it. I am enjoying writing it. I come from a family of authors, although I am a biophysical chemist, LOL.

  11. Trans am I too am booked on oasis in a aqua suite. This sounds crazy but I'm from old bridge originally now in Jackson and my suite can you guess is 10-730 thanks for info. I did read reviews about soot but was also told by rccl rep that it was taken care of. I got a few questions being in suite is it worth booking the shows was told suite guests get priority seating. Did my time dining is it best eating in room since full menu offered o main dining room? Or a speciality restaurant?

Wow, small world. We live right off of route 9. We also have a house in Bayville. We booked all our shows in advance, but IMO did not need to. They never took our reservation just waved us in. And yes, at least in the theater and ice show there were special seats for suite guests. It is really a matter of preference if you eat in the suite or dining room. We loved eating on the balcony, definitely take advantage of it on a few occoasions. We love Giovanni's and Chops. We thought it was worth the extra and also loved Johnny Rockets and the Seafood Shack for more casual dining. You are going to love the suite, just go in it with the right expectations. Feel free to ask me any questions you like and will try my best to answer.
