Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I'm not saying it just took her that long. The line was that long. But in reading replies, I think both the embark and debark of that cruise was abnormal. For debark, Mardi gras was back in port a little after midnight(!), but even us with passports didn't get off until 11:30 am, and we were in the middle of the pack. She was in the bc line for that long after the rest of us got off the ship. For comparison, the Magic got in port around 5-6 am, and we walked off the ship a little after 10am, and there were no separate lines for passport vs. birth certificate that we saw, but we were near the back of the pack.
  2. Quick question for recent cruisers: Does anyone know how long it takes to debark if you are (a child) using a birth certificate? Background: two years ago we cruised on the Mardi gras, and we had an adult that used a birth certificate and it took them close to two hours to debark. Last year we cruised out of Norfolk and had a child (5) with only a birth certificate with us, and she walked off with the rest of us. I figured they were using facial recognition, and that's why there was no separate line for anyone. I've seen in a couple of posts on Facebook and maybe here about the long lines for birth certificate users leaving Celebration, and now I wonder if there will be a problem. Idk why Norfolk would be more efficient than Miami or Port Canaveral. Is it because she's a child so she can go with her parents in the passport line? Is there still a separate line for non passport patrons? TIA
  3. I guess that's what my thoughts are. Norfolk has a cruise parking lot that is run by the city. If it was expected to be closed, then they wouldn't have the employees to monitor that lot ready by Sunday, unless they were reassigned to other jobs while the port was cruise-less. Like I know they had to hire extra security last year because cars were broken into. But they wouldn't have the security staff for a lot that wasn't to be used for over a year. It just seems like a lot to get ready in a short amount of time, but I'm sure things will work out.
  4. I know Carnival will work things out, but I'm curious on how they are going to scramble employees in Norfolk. It's not like if they had moved to a port that's currently used for cruises. Norfolk closed in October and wasn't supposed to reopen until Feb 2025, so there aren't employees easily available. Sure they can bus the Baltimore employees down for check in, but what about things like the cruise parking lot and the porters, plus other places I cannot even imagine that would not have the employee infrastructure in place.
  5. It was two years ago, but we had a group of 18 doing YTD on Mardi Gras. After the 2nd night we had the same tables and waiters, because we informed them that we would always eat at the same time.
  6. I did this in August 2022, and it was a disaster for both drop off and pick up after the cruise, but it may have improved since then.
  7. I won a trivia on my last cruise. I hadn't heard the questions before, and anyone watching me saw me using my phone as a clipboard to write on (they wouldn't know that I don't buy internet). It was guess the year that something happened. So it's possible to win without cheating sometimes.
  8. Per John Heald on 4/15: Here are the Big Screen Movies for the last week of April and May to be shown on the Lido Deck. Black Adam Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile The Woman King Jurassic World Dominion – Rise of the Tyrannosaurus Critic Amsterdam A Man Called Otto Puss in Boots - The Last Wish Mother's Day Cheers
  9. The parents are in a two person interior, and there are no three or more person interiors available on this sailing. So you are saying that she can't officially move to her parents' room because of that? My only concern is they have a "lack of knocking" etiquette and I wouldn't want my nephew and niece walking in if I'm in a state of undress. If we can't change her key, we'll just lock up her sail and sign card. My only experience with this is two 2 person cabins and switching around, which was no problem, We just waited until the second day after the lines at guest services died down.
  10. Thank you y'all so much for your help. We usually wait until day 2 for visits to guest services, so we'll lock her card up until then.
  11. Yes, it was about $500 cheaper to add her to our cabin. She's my grand niece, so family. I'm in the room with my sister, her grandma, on a casino rate, lol. I thought she needed her card for Camp Ocean, is that not right? Because if not, then she wouldn't need her card on the ship.
  12. I have never traveled with a young child on a cruise. The child is 5 and she is booked in our cabin and her parents are booked in a different cabin across the hall. Does the sail and sign card act as a room key for a child that age? If so, can they turn it off upon request? TIA
  13. I don't know if this counts, but after I paid my deposit last month, I needed to downgrade one cabin, from balcony to interior, and move the other cabin to where the first one was. I contacted my PVP, who did not do the booking (my error, not knowing that she didn't get a commission for me holding and paying the deposit), and there was no fee for these changes.
  14. Are there different RU2 offers? That is the only one I get. But for me it's not free. It added around $200 for a 5 night cruise. But I couldn't use it for my next cruise because I needed a 3 person room. This has been my offer since my last cruise in August 2022.
  15. I figured I would thank at the beginning and the end, kind of like the gratuities, lol. That said, I have a followup to number 1. So do we exchange the luggage tags so our luggage goes to the correct room, or leave it like it is? Our rooms are a few doors apart, so it would not be a big deal if we have to leave it as is.
