I just disembarked the Coral last week from a southbound Alaska cruise June 18-26. I had packed exercise clothes to take part in the Zumba classes which have always been fun. There were no Zumba classes the whole week. With 3 sea days on a 7 day trip there was plenty of time for them. Is the Coral the only Princess ship where Zumba is gone or does this pertain to all Princess ships?

I was on the Coral Princess for the last run of the Canal before she sailed up the coast to start the Alaska season.  Zumba classes were offered/hosted by the Cruise Director but she was disembarking sometime in June for her pending wedding.  It's possible the ship did not have a certified instructor to replace her.

We got off in Vancouver Wednesday and knew something didn't feel right.   The ship was listing to starboard on the third day of the LA to Vancouver run and it was 24 hrs of jiggling that was tough to adjust to, not your usual back and forth rocking movement.

Nice to get the 70 degree weather in Vancouver though.

I was sitting out on the Baja deck and definitely noticed the listing on Tuesday afternoon.  In fact, when I looked at the wake, the starboard side looked normal while the port side had a very weak wake.  At the Elite lounge that evening, the F&B Manager even made a comment about how the ship was list and he thought they were doing it because of the rocky seas.  Guess he was wrong.   At least the ship got to where it was supposed to go and sounds like it was fixed up.  Happy sailing!

  3. Yesterday, I made my very first moveup bid.  Didn't think it would happen as the scale said it was weak.  This morning it was accepted.  I received my 'CONGRATULATIONS' email where it stats a new confirmation email reflecting this upgrade will be sent.  The updated cabin is showing on my account and I've printed off the new luggage tags.  However, I've not received the email.  I booked through a TA.  Would this have been sent to them?

There is also something fishy with my shipboard credit.  Before I made the bid I had a substantial amount still showing as we only have one excursion through the cruise line booked.  Now my account is showing no balance and the one excursion I have booked is saying I owe extra $$.  Is this normal?

I'm a newbie at the moveup bid process but I didn't think it would affect my shipboard credit that I had sitting on my account.

  4. We fly into Miami on the 12th and are sailing out of Miami on the 13th.

Currently we are booked into the Hilton Blue Lagoon Airport hotel for the one night stay.  When I originally booked this hotel, we were arriving later in the evening so hoping on the airport shuttle was convenient.  The hotel also offers a port shuttle which has to be booked upon arrival.  Our flight has now changed and we are expected to arrive earlier in the day  (late morning) so I thought it would be nice to stay closer to downtown.  I will be using points and of the 10 or so hotels I looked up and short listed, the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay was the only hotel with 2 double beds available for the Friday night before our cruise that met my points criteria.

Having never stayed in Miami (we've always flown in/sailed out of FLL), I've come to research your expertise to see if we would be wise to change hotels or stay with the one already booked.  Any advise is gladly received.

  5. I talked to my TA and she did a dummy booking and it was not a good deal that Princess offered for the upsell.  We have sailed a few times in a mini and enjoy the extra room.  In fact when we originally booked this cruise we booked a mini.  Then we went on a 28 day and decided that 18 was not long enough and booked a 7-day cruise on another line to kick off the vacation.  We are happy with what we happy.  If another offer comes through, great.  If not, oh well.

  6. My TA just emailed me with an upsell offer that doesn't seem like a good deal but I could be wrong.  We are sailing the Coral Princes 18-day through the Panama in April.  We currently have a BD-balcony booked and the offer came through at $405 pp to a mini-suite (no mention of category).  I'm on the fence but it doesn't seem like that good of a deal or am I missing something?

  7. Having never been to Nassau before, I’m starting to look into things to do. I thought of doing a beach day or checking out Atlantis. There are five ships in port the day we are there, including the large Symphony of the Seas. There is going to be a lot of cruise ship passengers attacking land.

Does anyone have any recommendations for beaches, excursions or just something they have enjoyed doing while visiting this port?

  8. Celebrity handles the low sodium diet extremely well. Make sure they are aware of your dietary restrictions. In the main dinner no room, they will bring you the menu for the next evening and if the dining room is open fo4 lunch, you can also order your lunch menu as well. You’ll just need to let your waiter know you’d like to see the lunch menu. Since you plan on having a meal in the specialty dining room, you could speak with the staff prior to the nigh5 of your reservation. The thing I like about Celebrity is they have fit flare menu items which helps as well.

  9. That’s for everyone’s input. Good to know that finally auto bag transfer is happening in TO. As for Delta, I can’t help but remember a comedians joke on a recent cruise where he explained the initials of Delta Airlines... don’t expect luggage to arrive.

Still looking at prices and options since we are still 9 months out.

  10. You bags are automatically transferred in Toronto. You do go through US customs in Toronto but it is a dedicated area to connecting passengers and the customs officer scans your boarding pass and the photos of your bags are displayed to him/her.

Alaska through Seattle is another option.

Unless this process is new in the last couple of years, this has never been our experience. We have always had to collect our bags. The connection times are far too short for the process. I’ve missed connections before in TO and not a fun way to start a vacation.

  11. Thanks for the input. I’m not limited to the airline as the points I’m using is through a CC so you aren’t tied to just one airline. We will be booking first class/business so sitting forward in the cabin of the plane won’t be a problem. I thought the 3 1/2 hours in DFW is a long time and from what I can tell, we wouldn’t have to change terminals in DFW either which would be great. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve flown through DFW and had never had a problem with connections.

I thought about taking the quick shuttle and heading down to Seattle and haven’t ruled that out just yet since I’m just at the beginning of my research. I know FLL is an option too but we are booked into a hotel around the Blue Lagoon in MIA and since it is a long day of flying, want to keep it as simple as possible.

    Again, thanks!!

  12. I’m currently researching flights from Vancouver to Miami for next April. Several options have popped up with connection cities including Toronto, Montreal, DFW, PHX and LAX.

My thought was to avoid the Cdn airports simply for the fact that I could go through customs in Vancouver and not have to worry about collecting luggage between flights. Having said that, I was thinking of going through DFW but would an 1 hr 13 min be enough connection time? There is also a 3 hr 38 min layover in DFW. PHX is 2 hours and there are several options for LAX.

Any opinions from experienced flyers? I’ll be flying on points so airline choice isn’t a factor.
