Do visit passenger services to get your tokens. When we were on her in April, the machines dispatching the tokens didn’t work.

The crew also recommend green apples. I can vouch that green apples do settle the stomach. Not sure about red but the green apples work. When you see them at the buffet, grab one and have it in your cabin just in case.

One night it was late and they made an emergency broadcast "911" to a cabin on deck 14.. 5 minutes later they repeated the broadcast with a different code. Don't know what happened...
We heard a passenger in that cabin had passed from a heart attack. It was the night we left Moorea although I didn’t hear the announcement as I was asleep (with ear plugs).

I loved the cruise and found the 8 sea days at the end went much faster then the first four days. I’m finalizing my review and will add it to my blog. The dailies are up though and the link is in my siggy. Would definitely do an extended cruise again in a heartbeat.

There are a few restaurants in the area... Elephant & Castle, Moose's DownUnder, Cactus Club, Joey's @ Bentall, or Mahony & Sons. These are just some of the places to eat within easy walking distance of the Hotel.

I saw on the Princess website they have a Voice of the Ocean show type of thing. Do you think this will be on the Alaska cruises? Has anyone went and watched it? We love watching The Voice on TV and I think this would be so fun to see fellow passengers compete in a contest like this.
We saw it for the first time in November on the Emerald. It is very similar to the TV show. Three Princess crew are the "coaches" and the audience, if they choose to, can participate by selecting their favourite singer. There was pretty good talent when we saw it and they get a trophy to take home too. At the entrance to the theatre, you can hand in your key card for a device. After the show, you hand the device back for your key card. It's fun.

I agree with Keith1010. I found Celebrity Cruise Lines had a great assortment of food that leaned more towards the healthy in all areas where they serve food, including the dining room. There is the Aqua Cafe for breakfast and lunch and the main dining indicates which meals are "fit fare" I think they called it. The buffet salad bar had excellent choices and you could order up fresh protein from the station that made omelets in the morning. I was very impressed by the turn to healthy food choices that Celebrity offered.

Obviously it really depends on the seas. I've sailed it in September where the days were all calm but then I've had the opposite and the ship was really moving. It really is a chance you take but that is true for all cruises. Go and enjoy and whatever happens, happens. :)

This is our first Princess cruise and very much looking forward to it. We've cruised on Carnival a number of times but find it too rambunctious for us we simply are not partiers, but my husband is tatted all over on his arms, legs and back. I say this because I have found several post where people with tattoos are referenced in a negative way. Should he keep his arms covered as to not draw attention to himself? We just want to have a nice relaxing vacation.
Thanks in advance.
There is too much judgement in this world. Don't let other's ruin your vacation. He shouldn't cover his arms. If someone is that small minded to judge someone for what they look like, body art or anything else, they are the ones with the issue, not you.

Speaking for someone booked on this cruise....
IMHO - It is too bad, but this is Apia and not Venice or Glacier Bay NP or St. Petersburg. Also, what was not mentioned in prior posts is that the Emerald Princess will overnight in Bora Bora thus offering 2 full days versus 1 full day as an alternative. This is not exactly a bad deal.
Myself, I'm quite happy to have two full days in Bora Bora. It is gorgeous there. Sure, I don't get to see Samoa but I'm just happy to be on a cruise vacation. :D

I’m wondering if any cruisers on this site have used Tai’s Native Experience when they stopped in Apia for the day. I have read good reviews but just wondering if any of you have used him.

When we were on the Emerald in November we asked our wait staff if they receive extra tip money do they have to share it. Unfortunately they answered yes but we tipped them extra any because they were great! Next tip we will bring a little something they won’t be able to share.

Many of the 3-day cruises from LA to Vancouver are sold as “Cruise n stay holidays” where they may have a few days before the cruise in Vegas, Laughlin or LA area then are bused to the terminal to finish their vacation and sail home to Vancouver. I would say if you are wanting this cruise in a balcony cabin, then book it while you can. The packages do often sell out.

The only difference I found between the two is that the Ruby shows a little newer but otherwise they are the same beautiful ship

I will be heading out on a 28-day cruise which visits include Pago Pago and Apia. Do these two locations take US currency or would I be wise to pick up some local currency before leaving on the trip?

I do have Type 2. It’s been a year and yes' date=' I watch my Carbs, etc. and have done very well with my numbers. However, we eat at home so I’m able to completely control what is in a recipe and what I eat. This will be a new challenge for me, so I thought your tips would be helpful and appreciated. Has anyone found sugar free desserts they enjoy occasionally? Any good chicken dishes or fish dishes you especially liked or disliked? I just envision myself eating what they call chicken breast, and I call hockey puck, every night.:([/quote']
My mom was recently diagnosed with T2 and we were on the Emerald in November. She had no problem with the sugar-free desserts offered. She really enjoyed the sugar-free mango cheesecake she had one night. They will take really good care of you.
I have a no-salt diet due to being at risk for congestive heart failure. If you are concerned speaking with the maître d or head waiter the day you board. I was brought the menu every night for the next day and preordered. They will accommodate your needs. The head waiter I dealt with daily had a long list of passengers he saw nightly with special food needs.

I wrote a mini-cruise review on my thoughts of my recent cruise onboard the Emerald Princess from November 5-17. These are just my option and may not be the same as everyone. I hope you enjoy.

It's nice reading about the good things that happen rather then always reading the bad. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tweedy.
Loved your Alaska Blog very much.
Would you please be able to advise us on maybe 2 hotels we could stay at pre cruise fairly close by all the attractions including the cruise terminal. Probably about a 4 star rating.
Thankyou so much.
Cheers Bob and Christine.
Well thank you.
There are a number of hotels downtown that would suit your needs. Here are a few that are all within walking distance of the terminal and close to bus routes, etc.
- Pan Pacific Hotel (right at Canada Place, you can see your ship from your room)
- Fairmont Waterfront
- Fairmont Pacific Rim
- Auberge Vancouver
- Marriott Pinnancle
- Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront
- Le Soleil Hotel
- Hyatt Regency
I hope your bucket list becomes a reality.

Curious about the Gates Hotel South Beach
in Florida Departures
Posted
Currently researching some hotel options for our April cruise out of Miami. I stumbled upon The Gates Hotel South Beach and think I found a fairly reasonable rate for the one night we need it. Have any of you experienced cruisers stayed at this hotel and what are your thoughts?
