  1. So...this Cal's, is this a beach? Or just a restaurant with a "good view"? Not interested in any restaurants or views unless it's while sitting on a beach or in the water. :D

I ALMOST FORGOT...I decided a long time ago that the next time we came to Roatan, we were going to go see the ssssslllloooootttthhhhhsssss (sloths said in my very slow voice). ;p

So, I will be contacting Daniel Johnson's for that. But, we still need to figure out something else to do that day.

I can't believe I AM suggesting something to Mitsugirly after reading all your reviews and helping me on so many decisions. We went to Daniel Johnsons place and added the snorkeling option. It was off a boat so know that is not your thing but we were the only ones that went out. It was raining that day so many people cancelled but it was the sweetest little old man captain and a scuba diver enthusiast went with us. It was so personal and load back. Felt like we were family. It was nothing fancy and an older boat but took us out to the reef right by the monkey sanctuary. Seems like his family all work there. His aunt drove us back to the port and stopped at an AI so we could get a monkey la la drink. It was a great day treated like family. The reef was gorgeous even with the clouds and rain.

  2. One piece of the puzzle really depends on how many people are going. Some options may be more economical if you're paying for a per vehicle fare vs. a per person fare depending on the number traveling.

Agree sometimes it depends on number of people, but I have found every time a one way car rental is close to $50 and much cheaper than a shuttle. You are on your own time, and can grocery shop to get pop/soda or explore a little the day before. Drop off is easy at port location. You take a shuttle to the port and might have a tip over and above rental. It's very easy

  3. On my August statement, this offer popped up on my AMEX card, I accepted. I had already booked an October cruise on July 24, inside the booking window stated within the offer. I had paid for the cruise with my AMEX. Will AMEX retroactively apply the credit statement in September, will I have to tell them or does it apply?

I tried this on last year's offer. I had already paid some. I called my Carnival rep and explained the offer. She credited my account and then immediately recharged it indicating she could flag it customer wanted to use a different credit card. I got the $100 credit on my AMX, but then days later, the $500 credit came through from carnival on my AMX statement and then a $100 credit. So AMX saw it was an in and and out. I ended up making another payment on the cruise to get that offer. So I doubt AMX will let you get this. The promotion is to get people to book new cruises, even though payments on existing do work. Excuse to book another one!

  4. I've used this offer once about 6 or 9 months ago, don't see another new offer in my AMEX "benefits" package. I have 3 new cruises booked, and it would be nice to use the offer multiple times on different sail dates or cruiselines.

Oh well, at least there's Carnival gift cards at 10% discount from Verizon Wireless (until Oct 31) and AARP.

see my previous post. I didn't have it either, and after 4 customer service reps got someone to read the fine print and pretty much said they cannot just offer this to select cardholders. I made a $500 payment and contacted the rep back and she did a manual $100 credit on my account. Be persistent.

  5. Diamond and Platinum cards are in the mailbox immediately upon boarding. Captain's Lounge was closed on my Vista cruise. I guess there's no need for it since you do all the checking in before you go through security out front.

The only drawback is now have to go GS to add gift cards to SS card and can't do it a captain's lounge, but I guess you can also try adding a kiosks, but reading some people don't have best luck doing it there.

  6. Delta AMEX.... I was able to use the offer last time with the link that was found in this forum. For this go around, I have seen people say that they have talked to someone at AMEX who advised that the offer will be on their card later, or that they can go ahead and make a purchase, and get the $100 credited manually. At this point however, I have not seen any confirmation of the last 2 scenarios taking place.

Those of you with Delta AMX cards. Be persistent. I did the chat with customer service last week who then sent me to travel area and then cruise area. Last year they were able to add the offer to my card. A great CS rep there said call the 800 CS number on back of your card and ask for a supervisor since I got the run around. The CS rep kept going back reading the offer and too said I should be able to add it but she realized it took you right to cruise sites. She read the rules and appeared to conclude this should not have restrictions. I made a $500 payment on my booked cruise and she gave me her direct line and manually gave me a $100 credit I saw this morning. So give it a try. Of course I was professional and polite and said I really don't want to use my visa to book this. Ha ha. Good luck.

  7. OK. So after getting transferred twice, I was told by the first and last people that the offer is available on all types of cards. It's not limited to a certain number of offers and they are unable to manually load it at this time. I was told to give it a few more days because the emails are being sent out in batches. If I don't get one by Monday, then he gave me the number to the Promotions Department to call and see how to go about getting it added. I guess I wait and see. Good thing I'm not in a hurry to book anything.

Same here. I have Delta AMX. Last time this was offered I was able to chat with customer service and they added the offer to my account as I did not have it. I didn't have it again checking today. I got bounced around to 4 departments asking if they could again "offer" me this. I was able to get a great supervisor who said book it (even though I am just going to make another $500 payment) and call her and she would manually credit me $100. So be persistent. I do see others saying maybe offer is still coming. But be persistent. $100 is $100.

  8. Freeport - many say nothing to do, but if you like snorkeling go to deadmansreef.com for snorkeling at Paradise Cove. This was kids 10 and 12 first snorkeling experience and they loved it. Snorkeling from shore. Bus from port was easy and people were so nice. The owner has started building a man made reef and talked to the kids about coral reefs and marine life. There is a little restaurant with conch fritters and good prices for lunch and bar. Very laid back and wasn't too busy. people can rent chairs and just lounge but the snorkeling was good. Highly recommend.

  9. I HATE it. I have an inside cabin on Deck Three. I am happy with it. It has one of the mini fridges which I need for Meds. and I keep Diet cokes in there.

BUT my husband is a little claustrophobic. Not a lot. But he likes the Outside seat at the Movies. And we have sailed in Insides On Carnival twice, and had a good cruise both times. Once......booked late. All we could get. Once booked 5 days from Sailing. Happy to be on the ship in anything. Family issues. Everyone got mad. We left ( retired and could do that) .....when we got back. Issue solved. Best anger management "class" I ever heard off...........

So....................I cannot see which cabins are open on each deck. I am thinking I will try to upgrade to an ocean view. They keep GIVING me a cabin on the First Deck. I want to see the cabins on Deck Five and NO. I do not believe they are sold out. That cruise is new to the schedule. Most TA web sites don't even have it listed yet. I think they are being held for large families. Which is their decision but It irks me. We spend money too. Casino. Buy Carnival Shore excursions. We are well behaved passengers. Like to play Trivia. JUST LIKE YOU.

and NOW we have NO CHOICE in picking our Cabin. Is it just me? Operator Malfunction? And Holland America has the worst web site in the World. Princess has an easy one. Norwegian is so bad.......I don't even go there. I use a TA to book RCI. BUT I loved Carnival Web Site. I fooled around there a lot. Wound up booking and taking a lot of cruises.

    This is a long post.

    But I am irked

Is everything in the World turning complicated? I mean.........you click a ship. You see what is available. All of the Cabins. You see the Price.

can you swing it without resorting to eating beans and cornbread ( which I like) every night for six months? OK. You can afford that cabin. So YOU BOOK it........ IS that not what a booking engine should be?

Keep hitting continue and when you get to the screen where they have chosen your room, look on the left side and you can edit the location and deck. When you choose another deck or even the same one, the available rooms will show up like the old site. Takes a little to get used to but you can still see available cabins.

  10. We have purchased the individual bags of peanuts, cashews and almonds at Costco and brought those along in backpack while doing port excursions. If gone all day out on a boat it was a nice protein lift to get us through the day. Never had a problem bringing them on.

  11. Just booked Homewood for only $23.97 - thank you work for having me travel just enough! Love those Honor points. Wondering what is around there? We are driving down, but still debating keeping the car at Homewood vs. the port. My DH votes for the port as even at Homewood it is not a gated or guarded lot. I'm leaning toward the port as it is my car which is only a year old. Wish the port hadn't stopped the discounted parking for specific hotels.

Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Me too. I didn't have enough points but they have the cash and points. It is only $4.34 and my last 29,000 "work" points. It was less points than other Hilton properties, but maybe since not on the beach. But getting in late night before so this will do with free breakfast. Booked it earlier today without seeing these posts that it is relatively new, so this is great. Like bargains too like you received.

  12. You can see the list of airport hotels supported by the Cortrans shared shuttle service on the morning of your cruise at this link:

    http://www.cortrans-shuttle.com/hotels/

Thanks for all the info. Had not gone to their website yet to see this. Found a one way rental car for $49 so may do that and stay in Cocoa Beach. Have done the car rental before and easy drop off and shuttle from there to the port. Thanks all for great information

  13. Cortrans Shuttle Service. We just used them two weekends ago to get to the liberty. Picked us up from our hotel, took us right to the port and then back to the airport when we got home. $40/pp round trip. Shuttle bus was clean and well maintained and drivers were very professional. Will definitely use them the next time we are cruising out of Port Canaveral.

Was looking at Cortrans too but was thinking they would only pick up day of cruise from the AIRPORT. But you are saying they too will pick you up at hotel near airport in Orlando and take to port? That would be great and could take hotel shuttle night before and they would pick up in morning?
