Lol, I normally wear pants in the MDR or anywhere for dinner, I personally like dressing up in the evening on cruises, I really don't care what other people do

You get it. My point is, you are accepting of one you must be accepting of all.

If it ruins your dinner in MDR to see Men in shorts, what effect would men in woman's dresses have on you?? Would you complain or just remain quiet?? Your very vocal on Men in shorts, why not Men in woman's dresses. ????

We had reservations for 830 at Samba on Allure. We wanted something a bit earlier but all locked out online. Once our day for Samba was here, we asked the SL Concierge if we could change to earlier. He looked and said just show up, they had plenty of seats. We showed up around 630 and only 2 tables were in use.

That's cute and a great PC answer. I don't personally wear shorts to MDR for dinner, BUT if I did, and I was excluded from Dinning, I would be upset if they permitted Men in dresses to dine regardless what they have on underneath.

I had a co-worker who was Italian and would insist on wearing a kilt every Friday. I always thought kilts were a Scottish thing, but he insisted that his Italian heritage entitled him to wear a kilt as well and would threaten to go to HR if his bosses objected.

Not Kilts. Talking about dresses normally made for Women??? What about it??? NO takers???

The point is most people wouldn't wear shorts to a wedding or a nice land restaurant because it would be considered rude. It wouldn't literally "affect" anyone in a negative way or ruin anything, but it would be in poor taste. Which is something people with manners generally try to avoid.

 

 

 

I would argue it's also rude to not follow the suggested dress on the ship for the same reason. I'm not mad about it, I'm a live and let live kinda guy. But I do consider it a bit rude.

Royal has been sending out emails on some ships/ports to arrive and board by deck numbers. Many of the same people who say following suggestions of what to wear will be the first to say ignore the request from Royal to board by deck number.

Really, I haven't seen much attire and appearances of a "bum" on any cruises so far. Wait, I do remember this bum last week blowing smoke next to me and not playing. That is what I call a bum.

I care.

My husband and sons have always worn long pants and shirts with a collar in the MDR, out of respect for the other people in the restaurant who want it to feel special.

We were told, no formal nights, on Allure Atlantis Cruise. I don't think it was a charter but may have turned out that way??

Don't know about the Captain. Not sure how Captain Ron would look in a Tux. He is a big guy.

Dress attire for crew and staff were changed at the request of Atlantis. They also offered 24 hour food and music as well. Although not a charter, pretty much an Atlantis Cruise.

If the dress code says "no shorts" than it's no shorts. It really bothers me when people choose what rules to adhere to and what rules to ignore. And especially if they set an example to their children that that's OK.

If Royal requests or ask you to board by deck number, would you abide by it??

This past Xmas we definitely saw changes in the dress codes where before action would have been taken and not allowed in. I.e. Jeans on formal night [emoji33]

Must resist, must resist, oh to heck with it, I just can't stand it.

 

 

 

It's about aesthetics. Why do they have nice artwork? Why do they have nice tablecloths and napkins? Why does the food have a nice presentation? Why do they paint the ship? Why do they decorate the lounges? Why the flowers? Why the trees? No one can explain why the human brain enjoys the way these things look, just as no one can explain why the human brain likes nice clothes, and makeup, and hairstyles. But yet it does, it really does.

 

 

 

Some thing look nice, and some don't. It's very jarring when clothes someone is wearing are out of sync with the rest of the environment. If you can't see that, I'm not sure whether to be jealous or sympathetic. Like the tone deaf person who isn't bothered by a slightly flat note, but yet just doesn't get the music in the same way. That's the best way I can explain it, but if you don't understand, you never will.

 

 

 

I realize this sound a but heavy, so let me conclude by saying it's not that big a deal. just as the slightly flat note doesn't ruin my evening or even concern me that much, nor does the casual dress. But one shouldn't try to understand it intellectually just as one should not try to understand why we like certain smells. We just do.

Wow- what a discussion--- about nothing! It is so easy for a man to just wear long pants for dinner in a nice restaurant. It so easy to just follow some rules, and have nothing to worry about. It is so easy, if you feel like being extra casual to just eat dinner at Windjammer or get room service.

First, we abide by the rules but could care less what others wear. We don't let it bother us.

It is a discussion about something. You want to hold on to things of the past.

On last weeks cruise, on Allure, Staff and Officers were prohibited from dressing up. Dress attire was very casual. Royal is an inclusive Cruise Line.

BTW, officers and staff were glad to get back into their normal dress attire.

I can still never understand why other people get bothered by what someone wears. It's none of your business.

 

I won't wear shorts in the MDR simply because I'd feel weird, but I've no problem with people who do. I also wear a suit everyday for work, so don't fancy wearing one every night while on holiday.

 

I've also seen people in shorts who look much smarter and better presented than someone wearing an ill fitted suit or clothes from another era.

 

If you don't want to wear shorts, don't. If you don't want to suit up or go fancy, then don't.

 

If some stranger wears an outfit that bothers you, then deal with it and get some perspective.

I tried to avoid faces. I had sent these to a friend. These items were PROHIBITED if you read the letter from Concierge. The MDR is suggested or recommended or requested. A bit different than Prohibited. However, this prohibited wear was out in force both Formal Nights.
