You are so wrong. So very wrong. Wrong on the law, wrong on the facts, and just plain wrong.

I'm not engaging with you any further.

If you've never brought a letter - you DO need one - you've been acting foolishly. Which probably explains your rudeness.

No need to be snarky. Adults can be kidnapped by people willing to use force or subterfuge to achieve their illicit end. 19 is not considered adulthood in all jurisdictions.

My rule of thumb is, best to be on the safe side. I live in Canada, in a province where 18 is the age of majority, but I know that majority varies from province to province and US state to US state. Interesting to know that US Customs sets the line at 18. And we're not even talking about overseas travel!
My sister travels with her much younger children. She always brings a letter from their father authorizing the trip. The one time it was requested, it was in our packed luggage. They made her go get it. There were extenuating circumstances that time (escaped prisoners from New York State) but I am naturally inclined to be quite terrified of Customs [emoji15]

A letter from at least one of her parents granting permission for her to travel with you. This is also a Customs requirement. It is intended to deter cross-border kidnapping.

Taglovestocruise, this is by far the best answer I've ever seen re: dress codes, and it's something I would never have thought of. Bravo!

A very informative and comprehensive review. Thank you!

Solo pricing for cruises is ridiculous. I took two solo trips this summer, and was able to book nice hotels without a surcharge. Cruising is my favourite way to travel, but now that my family can no longer join me, I'm looking elsewhere.

OP, please let us know how the cruise goes! Especially embarkation...

This sounds like a recipe for disaster...

I was scheduled to spend 5 days in New York City in August 2015. Three days before we left, a family member was freaking out because the forecast showed constant rain for the entire duration of the trip. We never saw so much as a drop.
I understand that hurricane season is a bit different in severity and degree of disruption, but really, anything could happen.

I would not have booked a flight out of FLL for a ship disembarking in MIA. But that's just me.

Ohhhhh. That explains it. I've never been on the Konigsdam.
Thanks, RuthC [emoji3]

Following. I have been on more than a dozen HAL cruises, but have never heard of Sel de Mer.

Oh, of course. But the modern trend toward drills in lounges, pets on board as "therapy animals", etc. leads me to believe that it is highly likely that most requests for accommodation will come from pax who (unlike the OP's companion) do not really require assistance.

EXACTLY. The drills are supposed to mimic a real-life emergency. Otherwise, what's the point?
FYI, I say this as a person with multiple disabilities.

There are cruises which embark in Barcelona and disembark in Venice. I've been on one. So yeah, bad idea.

Check the weather forecast for the ports you will be visiting [emoji1323]

You will LOVE Uber. I'm visually impaired, and with Uber supplementing public transit, I feel for the first time in my life that there is nowhere I can't go!
You pay in advance by credit card, track the driver's impending arrival by GPS (it's particularly entertaining watching someone get lost while coming to get you!) and most of the drivers are very friendly.

Unfortunately, Uber is banned in some cities. The otherwise fabulous Halifax, Nova Scotia is one of them.

I've got to say, I loved our 2 Celebrity cruises, but this saga certainly does not induce me to book with that line again.

What changes were made to the smoking policy? How sad that this is your primary reason for choosing one cruise line over another.
