  1. would you please share your thoughts, at this point all is open for us as we did not book our flights yet

    thanks

We're planning 7 days/6 nights. 3 nights at the Ayers Rock Resort will give us 2 full days to do all the walks, sunsets and sunrises at Uluru and Kata Juta and enjoy the Field of Light. One night at Kings Canyon, then 2 nights in Alice Springs with a full day to explore the West MacDonnells. This could be done in reverse of course.

We decided on the itinerary for two reasons. We may never get the chance to return to Central Australia so we want to see as much as we can, and we've never driven a 4WD. The thought of the Mereenie Loop Road and the loose sand on the Gosse Bluff road helped make our decision.

  2. I really don't understand what you're asking. Can't find a decent restaurant? Asking about touring? Staying at Harrahs? Can't enjoy NOLA without a tour? My advice Is to get out and walk! Breath in the city! Take a river boat down the Mississippi and experience the history; walk Royal & Bourbon Streets & drop into the cafes for live jazz at any time of day and whatever you do be sure to line up for the Preservation Hall.

  3. I received a message from Susan to skip the Mereenie Loop Road would love to know why but I cannot find this post to reply on.

Edited because I realised you wanted to start in Alice. We've chosen to start in Uluru and spend as much time as we need before heading back to Alice and the West MacDonnell Ranges. Good luck with your choices.

  4. Hi Sailco - Not Terry but I believe the closest HoHo stop is at the V & A Waterfront (#1). We did their routes so many times last month that I could almost do the narration from memory. Really good tours! Check out their website for a better version of the map. CapeTown_Map_750_531_85.jpg

Only just saw this. Thanks so much. We've booked the 5 day pass (iventure card) that includes lots of extras like day trips to Cape Pt and the vineyards.

We've also booked an apartment in the Cape Royale building just over the road from the waterfront. Dealing with the owner directly has made it so easy!

  5. Thanks for all the directions. I found that thread before I posted but got really bogged down searching for individual cabins. Has some very clever and kind person created a proper spreadsheet? I'll go and look again:)

  6. If you look at the Cabin spreadsheet you will see a lot of comments about noise in these ones. It depends on your level of sensitivity, but I’d always book Decks 6 or 7 if I’m in a verandah. Many guests are now avoiding the Deck 8 rooms.

Where can I find the cabin spreadsheet?

  7. That’s only an issue on Deck 8, we’ve always had Verandahs on Deck 7, they are very quiet.

Thanks for the quick reply. We've always chosen our stateroom on decks with cabins above and below but the cruise I'm looking at has good offers for deluxe balconies on deck 8. We were a bit worried about the pool above, but I just found some info that says the pool machinery is between the deluxe staterooms on deck 8! I might have my answer :(

  8. Thank you to H Grandma and Sailco for HoHo tip. I definitely take note to that. Does HOHO have a location for me to go buy their tickets? I appreciate your time and your input.

You can buy the tickets online if you want but it'll be the same price at a bus stop or your hotel in Dubai. When choosing a hotel try to find one with a HOHO stop nearby. You'll be walking enough in the heat as it is so it's nice to have a bus stop close to your hotel.

  9. The HOHO is Dubai is one of the best in the world. Wear a hat and protect yourself from sunburn.

Otherwise taxis are really cheap and there will be heaps of private companies offering tours at the pier. Dubai is really safe and people are genuinely friendly and helpful so you won't get ripped off. Just make sure you know where you want to go and negotiate the price before you get into the taxi. Also if you want to go the top of Burj el Khalifa book in advance online.

  10. EleanorNoway - There is no way to know which side of the ship will be to the dock side.

Various reasons can cause the normal side-to to be changed.

sailco - Ships always go to drydock for maintenance twice in every 5 year period from building date.

Any refurbishment is fitted in to the drydocking period.

There is a gap in Diamond Princess's cruise list from 19th Jan. 2019 to 2nd Feb. in Singapore.

Singapore is the usual drydock port for Princess in Asia.

Thank you so much! We have a booking on the Diamond after that date so it's a relief to know some of the issues might be fixed. We're quite prepared to cancel as we've sailed on her before and it was not all that comfortable. The dates you've given leave us enough time to decide.
