  1. We booked a guarantee balcony for QV leaving Athens on 16 July

and received confirmation of a cabin number over a week ago.

Just looked at VP now and the ports are correct at last , still no excursions, but our cabin number has disappeared.

E ticket not available due to cabin not being assigned and consequently no luggage labels .

    What is going on?

  2. It's infuriating to lose the ports which were the main focus of a trip;in 2012 almost 50% of our cruise to the Holy Land and Egypt was rescheduled while we were at sea. There was huge disappointment but we prefer to be alive than to be a glossy' date=' western target for a terrorist's delight. Cunard has a duty of care to its passengers, crew, ships and reputation - omitting Istanbul (as others' are also doing) is a "no brainer". It is hard when you've planned and anticipated a trip but the, as yet unknown, pleasures of alternative ports will hopefully prove differently stimulating. We would have been unlikely to discover places such as Termessos or Malta if violence had not occurred. Be open to new pleasures - you may be surprised! And all the delights of the ship will still be yours. We wish you safe travels in this fragile but beautiful world.[/quote']

Well said i absolutely agree 🙂

  3. Just found this on cruise critic news page updated 1 july

Cunard. Cunard has canceled all calls to Istanbul for the rest of this year. Queen Victoria was due in on July 18 to spend a night in Istanbul, but this will now be replaced by two Turkish ports -- Volos on the 18th July and Marmaris on July 20; and Volos on Aug 29 and Marmaris on Aug 31."

Hope we get some comfirmation from Cunard.

VP is still saying Volos and Thessaloniki ( with excursions for Genoa ?????)

  4. We have booked a package with Cunard which includes a charter flight booked by Cunard which presumably will be full of Cunard QV passengers.

When you do this with P and O to Barbados you get off the plane onto a coach and go directly to the ship. The luggage is taken off the plane and goes to the ship.

On the return the luggage goes from the ship directly to the plane and you only have to check in at the airport with your hand luggage.

Does anyone know if this is what happens with Cunard? We are flying to Athens.

  5. Cunard will be saving thousands of USD by not sailing all the way to Istanbul and back and I also expect the 2 new ports will be rubbing their hands together and will have given Cunard a very good deal on docking fees etc just to get all the people on board spending in their local economy.

I wonder if we will get a refund or some on board credit?

Also hope they put on free shuttle buses in Volos.

  6. Istanbul will be pulled.

We are on the QV due in on 18 July.

Think you are probably correct but it will be a shame such an interesting place.

Wonder what could be the replacements?

  7. Yes I agree on all other cruises I have been on they delivered the booze to your cabin on the last night.

However that was not the case from Dubai to Southampton 21 night voyage back in April this year.

Maybe it was done as a sweetener to keep people happy as we missed ports, had 9 sea days all in one go and at least 400 people went down with Norovirus.

  8. Interesting to read kettles will be provided after the much needed refurb on QM2.

Cant imagine where they will put it as the dressing table is tiny and the phone is on it and cannot be moved. There is no other place to put a tray except the table. The cabins are very small with little storage except the wardrobe , we had a sheltered balcony.

We have just returned on the last leg of the world voyage from Dubai and used the room service for early morning coffee. The problem was we ordered it for 8 to 8.15 every day, it usually arrived between 7.30 and 7.45 when we were still asleep.

i like to have a coffee when i wake up not when room service wake me up.

  9. We are onboard and haven't heard a single complaint about the itinerary changes. The Captain has done a terrific job keeping passengers informed and the Entertainment Director put in place a full program. It isn't a major discussion point at the bars during cocktail hour.

You must have been on a different ship to the QM 2 we were on.

Everyone we spoke to said why had we not gone to Cyprus or Kusadasi for 2 days instead of Haifa . Haifa was dirty scruffy full of litter with taxi drivers who ripped us off and told lies about what was open.

Yes the captain kept us informed but noone ever confirmed the numbers of cases. Saying 7 is a joke looking at how many cabins near us were fumigated and talking to other people i would say 400 was a conservative estimate. One officer admitted to 150 in the first couple of days and this went on for 9 days.

Yes we were dissapointed to miss both valley of the kings, due to itinerery change after we booked and then Petra but we did enjoy the wonderful weather.

As for entertainment it was all geared to people who wanted to sit inside listen to lectures or listen to classical concerts.there were no outdoor activities except the usual Vibz band, who were excellent, for 45 minutes by the pool in the afternoon.

We saw lots of mainly men not washing their hands or using the gel and people sneezing and coughing without covering their mouths.

  10. We had a room on deck 6 not far from the back. There is a door going out to the pool area. Can't help you about deck 5. The decks on QM2 aren't very exciting. Nothing like the usual busy activity of other ships. Its not possible to just take your plate out of the buffet area, and sit in the fresh air to have lunch. There is a boardwalk very small very little on offer. A few tables and chairs might be ok in good weather.

I hope there is somewhere with sunbeds we are sailing from Dubai to Southampton next week and expect lots of good weather.

We dont want to sit inside during the day not bothered about pool side entertainment we just want some sun.

  11. We are joining QM2 in Dubai on 18 april.

The ship stays in port overnight and sail the following day.

We have an embarkation time of 3 pm but would like to spend more time in Dubai and check in later probably about 7 pm.

I have rung Cunard and they say the normal check in time is 12 until 3.30 but it is not a problem to arrive later but we would have to bring our own luggage on board as the check in/ porter staff would have left.

Has anyone done a late self Embarkation? Was it a problem?

    Linda

  12. Thanks for all your replies.

Re bringing alchol in Dubai it is not a problem you can either buy before you fly or they actually have a duty free shop in the baggage claim area in Dubai airport where you can buy a wide selction of spirits etc.

You cant buy alcohol in the supermarkets in Dubai and can only buy alcoholic drinks in hotel bars . If you go for a meal in a restaurant they are not allowed to serve alcohol.

Does anyone have any idea what is the lastet time we would be able to check in on the Monday?

We want to spend as much time as possible in Dubai on the day before we sail.

Our plan is to check out of the hotel store the luggage and go to the ship early evening. Will there be someone to check us in?

  13. We are looking forward to joining QM2 in Dubai in April on its last leg back to the UK.

Please can anyone tell us what toileties are provided?

Are bath robes and slippers provided?

Is there a kettle provided in the cabins?

Cam we buy alcohol ashore at any port and take it on board to consume in the cabin?

    Thanks

  14. We are sailing on the QM 2 out of Dubai to Southampton in April 2016 and have a question.

We board the ship on 18 april but the ship does not sail until midday 19th.

We want to spend as much time in Dubai on the 18th and are prepared to make our own way to the ship to check in.

Has anyone any idea what is the latest time we would be able to check in on that day?

I will try calling Cunard but just wondered if anyone had previous experience of late check in.

    thanks

    Linda
