  1. we were impressed with the food on Hurtigruten especially the selection on the buffet - I think you would be ok.
  2. You will have to contact the different companies that do Antarctica cruises. Antarctica cruises don’t restock they only have what they have. Once they leave and cross the Drake Passage there is no restocking. You won’t want to get on board and then find out that they cannot accommodate your dietary needs.
  3. No. Every other forum on CC works for me with mark all read. Only this one does not. I am quite online literate and understand how these things work or should work. Every other forum only bolds again when new content is posted. This forum constantly remains BOLDED when no new content is posted.
  4. When I left click mark forum as read, it changes all in the forum to read but the forum name in the main listing remains BOLDED even with no new activity. in all other forums the name of the forum in the main listing only BOLDS again when new activity. so many times I enter the LGBT forum because it is BOLDED and there is no new activity.
  5. We have not stayed in 3001 but we have stayed very close. Things to think about. On rough seas you will not only feel it more the more forward you are (IMO) but if the seas are really rough you will hear the bow slamming down as well. You will hear rehearsals and the shows from the Star Theatre as well. Because we have experienced a forward cabin a couple of times in the past on Deck 3, we now only stay mid-ship or towards the aft. We actually asked to be moved in rough seas from a very forward cabin on one of our last cruises because it was so bad. I don't understand why Viking put the suites where they do.
  6. Thank you Globaliser and megr1125, but am I missing the option on Aerolopa for keying your flight number and having the seat map pop up? It seems that I need to know the aircraft and look for that under the airline? If there are multiple configurations, how do I know which one is which?
  7. Don't know where else to put this. All other areas of CC that I frequent removes the bold font on the main forum page when you mark the forum as read, and that bold face comes back only when new activity happens. On the LGBT forum, this does not seem to be the case - is there a switch you can throw to make this happen on this forum too?
  8. Not sure where else to put this. I research my air extensively before booking including the airline, aircraft type, route, connections, connection time, and seating configuration in each cabin. Just something that gets me excited....haha. I have always been a fond user of SeatGuru, because you key in your airline, date, and flight number and it responds with the seating configuration of the aircraft you will be on. Lately I have seen that especially with Premium Economy SeatGuru is not accurate as often the airline uses a different configuration if the flight is international vs. domestic. International flights are 2 / 3 / 2 and domestic are 3 / 3 / 3. You can choose alternate configurations, but you are never certain what you are actually looking at. I was also informed in another discussion that SeatGuru is not being updated any longer. I am typically flying Toronto Canada to Europe or Asia. Other than SeatGuru, what are your recommendations for an accurate seat map when doing flight research? Thanks!
  9. Also you have to be careful while you are sailing that you are not connecting to US cell towers. It is possible. We have friends on Lake Simcoe and you have to be careful that your phone is not connecting across the lake.
  10. Canadians and Americans will need an ETIAS Visa starting sometime next year to visit all EU countries. We don't know what kind of restrictions may come from this as yet. The fun may begin then. To date we do not need a Visa.
  11. What are all those reels and video shorts.... "Tell me you are older without telling me you are older..." Yep - quiet, sedate, no confusion, 4 o'clock tea in the lounge.... bed after the show!
  12. Now you cannot say that no one would run on that deck, BUT, it is not really designed and convenient for runners because you go through what I can only call a very narrow passage at the front of the ship which is crew access to the anchor and mooring lines, and it is really only one lane, with sharp corners. There would certainly be collisions with runners and walkers. We have never experienced any noise from this deck, and I walk on this deck often and only ever see people walking.
  13. As the Trusted Traveller or Verified Traveler, NEXUS is promising new screening rules for us such as not having to remove the small liquids, laptops, light coats, shoes, etc. at security screening. We fly tomorrow through Pearson T3 on British Air. The last flight in the early spring that we has was also BA out of T3 but at that time I think we could not find or there was not a Nexus line for security. Is there now a separate line in Toronto T3 international (not USA) departure for Nexus? What can we expect? Thanks!
  14. Do you need roaming coverage if you can connect to the ship's WiFi? Are you looking to be able to make and receive calls while on the ship that are inside your monthly package?
  15. Well, I don't think that our cruise line of choice is marketing directly into the gay community, but if you watch PBS or Downton Abbey you will certainly get your share of advertisements from them. Other gay friends and couples that I have talked to about cruising always refer to the big ships and the party ships and the gay themed cruises. Most of the men that I have known that have cruised in the past have not been interested in the smaller ships that we prefer. I am not trying to stereotype, this is just my experience. I wish that there were more friendly gay couples on the cruises we go on so that we are not the token gay couple! Haha.
  16. I have done quite a bit of reading on this recently and as much as I support any gender you choose to represent yourself, travel and certain countries that you may visit or transit through may be a long time catching up to the liberal views of countries like Canada and others that acknowledge X gender. Simply because our home country acknowledges an individual right to express gender, does not mean that it is an open passport to any country. Some countries still see homosexuality as illegal and having an X gender could also spark concern at a border or immigration check point. I know that having an X gender does not mean that the individual is homosexual by definition, I am only suggesting that some countries and governments bucket all these types of things together and you become suspect in their eyes. The Canadian government has quite a bit of useful information/advice on this subject when travelling. https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/health-safety/lgbt-travel
  17. I was simply stating that for my situation we had vouchers and if we cancelled the booking we would lose the voucher value, and the value given for booking on board during a cruise.'' I was not suggesting that vouchers were mentioned in the OP, I was just sharing that is why we were forced to revise rather than cancel and that a revision could not be made to the same booking to get the free air, we had to change dates.
  18. Airline changing the equipment to a plane that has a slightly different configuration will cause this. And, this is all done automatically by the airline system. No one is sitting there manually reassigning seats. If you use SeatGuru, you will see often that the you are presented with the most common configuration that the airline may use depending on long haul vs. short haul, but often there is option for you to choose in the top right of the seat map to change to a 2nd or even a 3rd configuration. Often if you look at the differences, you will see things like Premium Economy has a 2 / 3 / 2 configuration in one map and a 3 / 3 / 3 in the alternate.
  19. We have not stayed in that exact cabin but within a few cabins on both port and starboard sides. We have been on deck 3 on every Viking cruise we have been on. We have never had any noise concerns at least that were bothersome to us. The restaurant in our opinion does not transfer noise up, the Restaurant is not open late anyway... I think that it closes around 9:30'ish. The promenade deck is mostly people walking as it is not a running friendly deck. Most runners are on the sports deck up top. Don't think you will have issues here. Where we have heard noise is when we have been further forward on Deck 3 and that noise is coming from the theatre. We have heard rehearsals in the afternoon and if retiring early, sometimes the shows, but they like the restaurant don't usually go past 9:30'ish. From my perspective you should be fine.
  20. I completely understand you and your situation that in the professional situation it is easier, but in the social situation, I tend to stand down.
  21. Well, if I am reading this correctly, and not that there cannot be issues with Viking Air, but Viking would not - IMO - just change around flights indiscriminately and for the fun of it. Airlines still are very good at cancelling, changing schedules, aircraft, etc., which is likely more to blame. One of the last airfare bookings we had with Delta from Toronto to Buenos Aires - that we booked ourselves - had over 10 changes before we actually flew.
  22. Good point. Since your first River Cruise, you should know that there is only one seating (time range) for each meal and there are no buffets or food available outside of meal times. (Unless you made other arrangements with the dining room manager) Generally there is a coffee station with cookies, muffins, etc. but that is all.
  23. You have to play a little bit by ear here... We leave Monday for Passage to Eastern Europe. Our itinerary map from the web site shows NO overnight in port. The legend on the Viking itinerary maps show a solid black dot vs. a white dot indicating overnight in port. BUT, often River Cruises do not sail overnight, but in the early morning or later in the afternoon after excursions come back. Often on a River Cruise, the scenery along the river banks is a "not to miss" thing so you sail when it is light. You should be able to get port and sailing times when you board, and this is important, because you may return from an excursion at 2pm and think that you can return to the city on your own to explore, but you may sail at 3pm. This will all be covered in your daily program. Always look for the back on board time each day. We have been tempted to leave the excursion sometimes and just wander on our own, so you must know the back on board time. (Always tell your excursion leader if you are walking away from the group) I would email tellus@vikingcruises.com and give your booking number, and ask ALL your questions. You will likely within 24-48 hours get a phone call from someone that will answer all your questions. If you have asked all questions in advance they will come back with better answers.
