  1. I think many people think Nassau is unsafe based upon the travel advisories and critical crime warnings from the U.S. state department and government of Canada over concern in the rise of armed robberies and sexual assaults against tourists in the pier area as well as paradise island and cable beach. The advisories also warn of this occurring even during daylight hours. So I think Nassau has earned a reputation worthy of being cautious.

  2. a quick google search found the PDF you were looking for

I would just like to point out the irony that after the many complaints about the kosherica cruises it turns out kosherica provides quick access to useful information :)

Thank you OP for this thread and everybody else for the great info posted! We are on the Spirit next month and appreciate learning more about her :)

  3. I'm in North Carolina and last night our local weather guy was commenting on how quickly the conditions of the storm changed. He called it a weather bomb and also said if you put this storm next to hurricane Irene they would look identical. So sorry for those who had to ride this out. I can't even imagine the experience. Glad people seem to be safe and feeling better.

  4. Andy Steinhauser was my all time favorite cruise director. The most fun I have ever had on a cruise was on our first sailing of the Epic with Andy as CD. He was everywhere all the time and it seemed like all the staff was really enjoying themselves and their jobs which made it that much more enjoyable for the passengers.

  5. I'm wondering how the move by NCL to a la carte pricing in the specialty restaurants will effect the dinner cost comparison between NCL and X. I am platinum on NCL but have seen a decline in service and quality with an increase in pricing so have been cruising other lines for the past year or so and happy. Going back on X in December and looking forward to it.

  6. Water wings are indeed dangerous, if they are your preferred floatation device I would go with a puddle jumper, same concept, much safer. The motion can be a problem too making the water in the pool unpredictable. If he needs the floatation help I would have him wear something even if you are right there I the pool with him.

  7. Based on Dave's subsequent answer, I would have to say that it sounds like the Nieuw Amsterdam continued with the sandwich procedure that it followed the 39 days I was aboard shortly prior. The only way to get a "made to order" sandwich was to gather the ingredients and put one together yourself. That was hard to do since there are no slices of bread put out at lunchtime; the rolls just don't work for a sandwich.

I did ask someone in charge about this, and he confirmed that no "made to order" was the way it was going to be. :( It sure limited the late lunch options by a lot.

I am on NA now and it is as you say, pre-made sandwiches and deli meat/cheese trays and condiments to make your own. They DO however different types of sliced bread available in addition to the rolls.

  8. Howdy folks, we have not been on HAL in far too long but finally heading back in December. We will be on NA. I know most of you eat dinner in the MDR or specialty restaurants, we will be doing that too but I travel with a small group who only gets to see each other once or twice a year and sometimes when cruising we just like to stay casual, kick back, relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner in the Lido. Last time I cruised HAL at the lido you could make a salad or get some soup or starters and then your entree would be brought out to you and the menu was generally a shorter version of the MDR selections. Can somebody tell me what the lido dinner experience is like in this day and age?

Thanks so much for any and all help here! :)

  9. Nothing new with 'adults only'.

Saga... you must be over 50 to use their product.... and you must be 50 and over to cruise with them Used to 60 but it lowered to 50. They tried on a small 'adventure' ship for 21 year olds... raised it back to 50.

LOL hmm then I am still not old enough to cruise HAL yet and heading out for the 6th time in December...
