Probably because Princess serves edible food whereas Celebrity does not
-
in the same link please read the section "clothing reccomendations"We are obviously looking at two different places.http://www.princess.com/learn/faq_answer/pre_cruise/bring.jsp
I'm reading from the Princess web site under "Packing For Your Cruise"
In that section you'll see "Learn More on What To Pack for a cruise"
This is where it gives the information which you don't seem to agree with. If you don't like what they print, then dress as formally as your prefer.
It's your choice.
All I know is that it works for me and many others- all the time.
and it will spell out in words you can understand just what I originally posted - thank you - someday it may not work all the time and I hope I am there to witness it
-
I did & it's just as I posted. Perhaps we just see it differently but to me it's plain a day. How could it be any plainer?
However I do cheat a bit.(I don't wear ties) ;);)
"For more formal settings, men should bring a suit and a nice pair of shoes (or, at the very least, a shirt, tie and slacks), while women may want to bring an evening dress or a skirt with a good blouse."
This applies to general - Read down the page to the section Casual attire and Formal attire - or - download a new copy of the answer book or I can attach a PDF

I read from the Princess web site about what should people pack for a cruise. Not only is it perfectly clear but it agrees with everything I've experienced on the ships for many, many cruises in the past number of years.
"For more formal settings, men should bring a suit and a nice pair of shoes (or, at the very least, a shirt, tie and slacks), while women may want to bring an evening dress or a skirt with a good blouse. When packing, bring wrinkle-free items or try rolling your clothes. "
It may not be what some people want to see but it give choices which is all that Princess wants to do.
Make everyone happy.
Read further down the page under Smart Casual and Formal please

You must have a different copy of the answer book - I just downloaded it and it states exactly what I posted for formal nights in the MDR - I guess you can do whatever you please
-
Yes, those are definitely examples given for those that want to dress formally but they also say (for the casual crowd) "or, at the very least, a shirt, tie and slacks" which gives a lot of leeway to the non-formalists.
It allows everyone to be comfortable in the DR on formal nights no matter what their choice of dress.[
Please read it again if you have a copy of the answer book - my post was directly from the formal wear guide for formal nights - there is also a casual dress guide for non formal nights - it appears you are posting your opinion and not fact
-
The way saxtdiver describes dressing is well within the guidelines that Princess allows. He is not ignoring any dress code whatsoever. If the way he dresses is not what you consider appropriate then perhaps another more formal cruise line might be better suited for you.
Please review Princess's dress code examples and you'll find they have changed. Things are not as formal as they once were.
btw- I dress similarly and is it is very comfortable.
Tuxedo, dark suit or dinner jacket and slax (from current answer book - nothing changed)
-
The most traveled luncheon/cocktail is usually for the top 40 - did this change?
-
We have booked a March b2b on the Royal which is the same cruise we did in 2017 - rates have increased but we got a large OBC and gratuities paid which more than made up the increase
-
You're obviously going on a Mediterranean cruise and can therefore purchase the water package. For some reason you can't buy it if you're sailing out of Australian waters.
We always buy a few packages when we can. It's much easier for heavy water drinkers like ourselves. I'm not sure whether anyone has mentioned that to fill your water bottle in Horizon Court or elsewhere is frowned upon due to the chance that bacteria from your bottle may contaminate the tap.
Fill it from the sink in your room!

I am not having a go, but what I can't understand is why people always have to try and buck the system. Formal means formal and jeans are not formal wear. As you can see I come from the UK so we do stick to the rules more.😀
Good for you - some folks just like to think they are "special"
-
They must have been pretty sloppy to be turned away. I haven't worn a jacket or tie in 15 years on Princess- many different ships- and have yet to be questioned.
No they were dressed as you described yourself - Royal March 2017
-
This is a very controversial topic and can be addressed by reading the Princess guidelines in their downloadable book.
Tere will be many answers given here but in the end it will depend on the ship. captain and Maitre de - I have seen men allowed in wearing casual and have seen men turned back to get a tie or jacket
-
There you go. ;) Even what guys wear on casual nights in the DR will work on formal evenings. Most people only read the first part and stop right there failing to read what Princess now allows as minimum dress in the DR's on formal night. Hence all the arguments.
I'ts true that some people will stretch the allowance even further but that's few & far between.
I suppose this is why Princess has maintained their dress code as is & not relaxed it any further like Celebrity, NCL, HCL and RCI.

It's comments such as this that cause all the arguments.
As long as Princess allows people to eat in their DR dressed neatly, no one should be taking it upon themselves to be the dress police. True formal dress is not an absolute requirement.
You should re-read Princess's guidelines about examples on to dress dressing on formal nights and you might change your mind.
I read them - did you?
-
I love formal nights....for everyone else but myself. It provides me entertainment to see people dressed up not realizing that it not a requirement but if they enjoy dressing up, then why not?
Cruise long enough & the novelty wears off quickly. The whole formal routine on Princess will be gone shortly so the formalists should enjoy it while it lasts. It's the last mass market cruise line that hasn't officially eliminated them.
Did I miss a Princess press release?

The midship stairs are on the Royal - There were always crew only stairs there and they must have converted then to pa stairs while in drydock

Princess website says midnight - please check it out

I was on the Royal Princess in January I think the HC closed at 11:00 p.m.??
Tony
Princess website says midnight
-
Sorry - HC closes at midnight
-
There is no such thing as free food - it is included in your cruise fare - but for no extra cost you can get food in the MDR at breakfast, lunch and dinner - HC is usually open 24/7 - Alfredos (if there is one) opens at 11:30 and the IC or Patisserie is included. Room sevice menu except Pizza is included
-
Hyatt Place Convention Center on 10th - next door to Harbor Mall for last minute shopping and near several good dining spots - can be had on valuetrips.com for about $200 plus tax - good breakfast too
-
I saw it on the Pacific Princess last month.....:):):)
Bob
Our waitstaff on the Royal in March did it regularly for 20 days
-
I'm confused. Are you convinced that ship water which you feel is more pure than any bottled water is unsafe to drink, or did you have a typo in one of your posts?
NO - we deink it regularly as well as the water and ice served at dinner (same water) but it seems that the consensus of this thread feels that it may be contaminated - so - rather than be troublesome I decided to go along with them
Can we really dress up on formal nights?

I am giving up - some folks either cannot read or are trolls trying to start a confrontation
