The term "flat iron" is a term used for what is sometimes called a curling iron or hair iron.  These are allowed

That's what I meant. Thanks for clearing that up. We women need our beautifying tools.

Oh and Thanks Bob! I only asked since it is an older ship and wasn't sure.

I think it’s becoming more common for some cruises to sell out far in advance.  If I remember correctly your  getaway ta had some pretty good pricing a while back.  I was tempted to book at one point. It’s a great ta itinerary with more ports than usually offered on a ta.

Could be a few groups booked on the sailing too.  My Jade Iceland, Norway, U.K. two week sailing last year sold out a year in advance (a late September sailing).  I was worried it was going to be canceled but it wasn’t.  It was a partial charter.

Id expect your sailing to pop up here and there as cancellations occur but I wouldn’t expect any further reductions in price when it does. When our jade sailing had rooms back up for sale, after final payment, they were offered at considerably higher fares and less perks.

Thanks for the information. Did your cruise disappear from the booking/planning page?

So the OP logged into "my NCL" to check the availability of excursions and the booked voyage was not in his or her account?

It's in my account along with excursions and other items to purchase, but I was also doing a mock booking to check for a price drop and it's not listed at all. It's like it doesn't exist on their site. I called NCL this morning they told me that it's nearly sold out, only a few family oceanview and Haven cabins left. Anyone wanting to book now has to call.  I asked if it's normal to remove a cruise from the website when it sells out and was told yes.

I don't want to think this way but I think it's been chartered. The rep said no when I asked.

Unless they are keeping Getaway in Europe for the winter there is no way that the TA is canceled, though it might be moved a week or two one way or the other. Alternatively some group may be doing a full ship charter for the TA.

Yep, the thought of a charter crossed my mind too. I checked the cruises both prior and after and they are both still available. I can't find a charter online either.

It's still listed in my account on NCL.

  5. We are staying in Gretna in West Bank. Does anyone know of any good restaurants there ? Also how far from French Quarter? Transportation besides taxis. Thanks so much for all the replies so far. Getting some great ideas !!

I misquoted earlier about Mardi Gras sorry.

As far as restaurants on the Westbank, not any like you find in the New Orleans. If it were me I would stay in the downtown area for both convenience to the port and restaurants.

  6. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I got some contact lens cases and tried them out this morning to see if they would hold the amount I need for my hair, and Bingo! I have numerous travel size bottles just wanted something smaller for the first couple days of our 22 day trip. I am trying to avoid using anything in my checked bag until we board the ship. Also trying to keep my carryon as light as possible.

  7. Sounds like you had a great day, but it would be of more use to the OP and future readers if you shared who your fabulous guide was [emoji846]

It’s Sacré Cœur in Montmatre, by the way, just in case you were still trying to remember!

Sorry it took me so long to get back and post this information. Our tour guide was Genevieve Roberts and I booked her through ToursbyLocals. I communicated with her by email and she informed me of the cost of the private van she hired for us. She does walking tours also, but we have one family member who has limited mobility. I recommend her highly.

  8. Since my first cruise on Navigator in 2005, when I thought the food was good to now has significantly changed. The selections have changed quite drastically and while there are 4-5 entrees each night they are repetitive, they change the name so that it won't appear so.

On our last cruise in January the menu was so unappetizing that for the first time DH and I ate in WIndjammer 5 of the 9 nights. We went to the MDR 2 nights, 2 specialty restaurant and windjammer for dinner for the first time ever.

I love RCL but the MDR food and menu itself needs some work.

  9. I use hotel shower caps for my shoes

I go to the Dollar Tree Store and get 1 pack of disposable shower caps, $1.00 and there's 10 or 12 in each pack. I use these to pack my shoes in. I use to do the bags that come with some shoes but they weigh more that the disposable clear ones and I can tell what shoes are in them since they are clear. They are just like the ones in the hotels.

  10. Okay so I am slightly hijacking here but I need help from both Ryano and xxoo. We have 2 Junior Suites on Adventure of the Seas - not accessible. We are driving from Illinois to Bayonne / Cape Liberty. We are going to rent a scooter for my mom, who does not qualify for disabled status but can't walk long distances, and anyway she picked the rooms and this is what she wanted.

I would like your help with the scooter rental info if you know. I am looking at the vendor Scootaround, the standard scooter that holds 400 lb. and says it will fit through the standard stateroom door. It's $400 for the 6 night, 7 day rental, which is fine, as it will pretty much solve all of our problems if it works out.

So I am looking for your experience to just tell me, yes, that will fit fine in your Junior Suite and get your 76 year old mother around the ship.

Secondly though, I am not sure how to get her through the terminal before and after the cruise. She has a rolling walker but it's still a lot of walking from the drop off to the stateroom. She also has a Shoprider Streamer but it's too wide to fit in the cabin without being disassembled so I am not inclined to take it along at all. We can push her in a manual for the short distance through the terminal if they have plenty of them lying around.

I feel I am missing something here - as though there are obvious better options that I haven't figured out yet. Thanks for your help in advance.

I'm not sure if your aware that JS cabins have a tub not a walk-in shower. You may want to make sure she will be able to step over the side of tub.
