  1. OP did specify that they wanted it for nighttime security and not if they were on the pool deck.

    Thank you!

Although, I knew there would be some bashing, NEVER FAILS! That's why I usually just lurk.

I asked a simple question, no one knows how to reply in a genuine way. I know there are numerous ones available for the times I am on a pool deck, at dinner or in a show.

I want one for when the alarm may go off in the middle of the night.

  2. It has just come to my attention the there are no life jackets in the cabins on Oasis and Quantum class ships.

My DH and I have our first cruise on Allure in 2016. The fact that there are no life jackets in the cabins concerns me. I realize that they are available thru out the ship and at the muster and lifeboat stations, but I would really like to have one in my cabin (I'm one of those just in case OCD people). When I think of the Costa ship that went down and how the evacuation was mishandled, it would be comforting to know that I could grab a life jacket during the night if needed.

Having said that I don't think RCL would ever put our lives in danger in that manner, but one never knows what will happen.

Do you think if I asked the stateroom attendant for life jackets they would comply or deny my request?

    No bashing please.

    Thanks

  3. We did a TA from New Orleans to Barcelona in 2014 on Serenade, we got one on our bed the last night. Just did a TA from Harwich,UK to Boston in Sept. 2015 on Brilliance and did not get one.

I think it depends on the ship.

So many things on Brilliance did not compare to Serenade, but that's a whole other thread.

That is a lousy gift on the ships first TA though. Our's did have our name on it though.

  4. I would bring my own since sometimes they run out of some items towards the end of cruise. If they have it use theirs, then if they no longer have any you have what you need. I'd rather bring some home then not have it if needed.

They ran out of the individual cartons of regular milk on my last cruise. They had pitchers of milk instead. First time I've ever seen that happen but there's always a first for everything.

  5. And for every critic there are more silent cruisers who had a wonderful time on the same ship.

Biker, who had a wonderful time on the eastbound TA on the Brilliance.

Just a note, I did not say the cruise itself was horrible, but that the ship itself is not run very well. Were there good points, yes. However ,the bad seemed to outweigh the good ones.

I have always read the negative comments about RCL and taken them with a grain of salt. I have now experienced it for myself.

I overheard several cruisers complaining about how the ship was being run, along with several of them being members here on CC.

We enjoyed the ports, but not the ship itself.

The service from the stateroom attendant, waiters in the dining room were excellent. The ship itself was in good condition.

The food selections were horrible, many entree leftovers enhanced (if possible) and served later in the cruise.

2500 people with one food option from 3-6 pm each evening in Park Cafe which seats only 60 people max., which was the only option when returning from shore excursions.

Just a side note of my observations with the Captain. He was not seen around the ship. Also, a good captain would have made announcement's from the bridge when there were Sea Life that the passengers would liked to have seen.

Everyone has an opinion, this is mine. I have never bashed RCL before on CC, but I have to agree with the OP, Brilliance was not up to the RCL standards I have observed in the past.

  6. I was on this cruise also, and have to say I agree with everything you stated plus some.

This had to be the worst run ship I have ever been on after 13 cruises with RCL.

Windjammer was pathetic. Since when do they close for 3 hours every afternoon. We came back from Cork after doing a tour with RCL, the place they took us to for lunch (at an additional cost) was out of food. We get back on the ship and windjammer was closed. The WJ managers were very rude. Park cafe is very limited with seating for 2500 people. They simply did not care.

Dining room for dinner, we had great and attentive waiters but the menu's were lacking after the first week. No taste to most items and too much salt. Too many lamb and Indian dishes.

While the cutbacks are obviously noticeable, I won't say I'll never cruise RCL but I won't be back on Brilliance.

This ship is not run well at all.

  7. If they sent you an attachment that you cannot open, then reply to them that the attachment cannot open and ask them at the same time for the clarification you are seeking.

That sounds like a good idea. Thanks!

I was trying not to be too much of a pain... I know they have a lot of request to take care of.

  8. I am hoping someone here can give me some help with this. I emailed the RCL Dining and got a response from them. They have assigned us a table of 209, it also says Rm M4. They also sent me an attachment that I can't open. My assumption is that we are on deck 4.

I requested a table close to the entrance since one person in our family uses a walker and it is sometimes difficult to walk thru the dining room if the tables are close together.

Does anyone know what floor of the dining room is this table located? We are sailing on Brillance.

    Thanks

  9. We use the desk drawers for dirty clothes.

Embarrassing note - if the cabin becomes too messy the room steward will tidy it up. We really did not try to create such clutter. Now we tidy up before going out.

    Disgusting!

On another thread recently someone mentioned you never know what's been put in the drawer's before your stuff.

Note to self, don't forget the LYSOL.

I pack all of our clothes in the large ziploc bags I get at the dollar store. I re-use those for the dirty clothes.

  10. For our TA cruise we fly to London. We booked the cruise earlier this year and were watching choice air flights. At first the flights were priced pretty much the same as the airlines themselves. We waited to book flights with all the unknown when booking so far out.

So, flights for multi city, NOLA to London and then return from Boston to Nola were around $900. Then they went down to $800. It was still to early to book. Then around 1 month ago I check choice air and multi city escalated to $1,900.00 per person.

So we called choice air and booked our flight to London for a cost of $515.00.

The next day we called and got our return from Boston for $250.00.

    Total $765.00 pp.

By booking the flights seperately, we ended up saving money over what the original cost would have been.

    Lesson learned.

  11. If its a regular night light type, I'm not sure where you would plug it in. Unless it is the type with a cord and a plug at the end.

I get a small travel size Febreeze, spray the carpet on the first day and usually last a few days before needing to be sprayed again. I find it's the carpets that smell.

If a nightlight is needed, I bring a small battery operated candle or leave the bathroom light on and the light shines from under the door. It's just enough so if we need to get up during the night.

  12. That would make me nervous to wait!! I would pay it off before I left. You never know what could happen.

I will probably pay off before I leave. Just wanted to know if I had the option to pay on board or not.

I don't want to have to call from ship, I thought I could do it through the LA. I don't want to stress about it. I'll just need to move some funds around to make it work before I leave for TA.

    Thanks everyone!

  13. I was actually asking for my Dad because he and my stepmom had a E3 booked for their TA coming up in Sept. She called last night and got the Guarantee for only $530 more than the E3.

Dad said I made his day.

So thanks for the suggestions everyone. Let's hope he gets one in a good location.

Oh the Suite guarantee is gone this morning.

  14. I know this is an old thread but after reading, I need some advice. I have tentative bookings with Smiths, Blackberry, Totally Driven and British Airport for a transfer from London to Harwich. Prices range from 124 for British to 250 for Blackberry.

Harwich cabs did not get back to me.

Totally is cheaper but good reviews are few.

Smith is cheaper than Blackberry but not by much.

British is my least favorite. Price seems too good to be true after the other

    quotes.

So how do I make this decision.

We need a larger vehicle which increases the cost.

  15. This is what is stated when I click on Deluxe/Suites Category:

    Deluxe Stateroom Guarantee

With this selection, you are guaranteed to receive a stateroom within a selected category, anywhere on the ship. Room assignments may be determined at any time after your reservation has been completed and paid in full up to the day of sailing.

    DECKPLAN CODES: W

    Why choose a Guarantee Stateroom?

SO.... my question is, if only Jr. Suites and one Owners are listed as available, then would this likely be one of the cabins I would be assigned to. I have never booked a guarantee before so I have no clue as to how it works. Just want to make sure that I wont be given anything lower that Jr. Suite.

  16. I have cruised in both standard cabins and suites, but never really thought about the fact that suite attendants get more in tips.

So my question is, What does a suite attendant do over what a standard attendant does?

Other than a larger cabin to vacuum (maybe once or twice in a week) and a bit more tidying up in the bathroom, what else is it that they do over and beyond the standard attendant to earn a larger tip?

The beds are the same size to make each day.

They are not dong the service of a butler.

On all my cruises except maybe 1 or 2 the service has been the same. We always give more than suggested, only once have I not given more that the suggested amount. We've had a couple exceptional ones also, who always were given more.

I am not trying to cause a debate, I am just curious since I don't really see a difference.

  17. I have inquired with 2 companies, Blackberry Cars and Totally Driven. Prices are about 80 GBP difference for same trip, pickup at apartment in London and drop off at cruise terminal in Harwich.

Without saying which company is the higher priced which should I choose based on experience some of you may have with these companies.

Blackberry gets good reviews on Trip Advisor, where Totally Driven I can't seem to find much information on.

    Any help is appreciated.
