  1. Thanks everyone. I knew I could get my answer here.

    Thom,

Not that is anyone's business as to why I would purchase water but here goes.

On my first 2 cruises, I had terrible swelling of both my feet and hands the entire cruise after the first 2 days.

So on my next cruise, I drank only bottled water, avoided the lemonade and tea.

It worked. Limited swelling, since I can't avoid some things made with ship's water.

Some purchase alcohol, I purchase water.

  2. We are taking our fist TA leaving from New Orleans in April.

When will the VAT tax be added to ship purchases? Once we get to the Canary Islands or when we embark on the ship?

I was thinking of getting the replenish package. Only because I drink plenty bottled water (4-5 a day) and can't drink the ships water due to fluid retention. If the vat is added that's an additional $4 a day.

    Thanks!

  3. That's what I was told by an agent by phone. I don't know where I'll find the link though. Does anyone know that?

Once you receive your documents and have completed the set sail pass there

will be a small print luggage button right under the print set sail pass button. My docs showed ready at 49 days.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Lower extremity edema has always been a huge problem for me on our cruises. I drink a lot of water each day and always used the ship's water. On our last two cruises, I drank only bottled water and had no problems with edema. And that was the only thing I did differently.

    Sherri:)

Same here. Drink bottled water only. Sometimes a lemonade or tea.

Also, the only port we have ever had unsealed or sealed bottled water taken from us was in the port of Falmouth. It was port security not the ship's.

  5. They dropped us off at the Placa Catalunya. We thought the trip was a great use of time. By going ourselves it would have taken all day. We were at the site by 9am and back in Barcelona in time for a late lunch.

Thanks! This is perfect, our apartment is 1 block away.

  6. We have been to Tenerife several times over the years and returned home from there yesterday at the end of a cruise so things are fresh in my mind. Tenerife is a lovely island with a variety of scenic, historical and cultural opportunities to explore.

You will dock in the capital city - Santa Cruz. This is not a huge city but it is a very pleasant and elegant place to explore with a very Spanish feel. It is possible to walk to the centre from the port....Probably half a mile.

There is a HOHO bus service which takes about an hour to circumnavigate the city and has a stop at the port. It costs approx €15pp for unlimited journeys. We used this and initially did the full circuit and then rode the route again, hopping on and off at the places we particularly wanted to see more of. We liked the park with its cafe and beautiful gardens and the central area with the shops and market.

There is a tram service that runs from Santa Cruz to La Laguna which has World Heritage status. I think the journey is about 30 minutes.

Further afield is the national park of Mount Teide with its rugged moonscape volcanic scenery.

To the south of the island is the holiday resort of Playa de Las Americas with its good beach, plentiful tourist shops, cafés and flower lined streets. This resort is approximately a 75 minute drive from the port.

To the west of the island is the more restrained resort of Puerta de la Cruz with its lagoon and smart shopping streets. The journey there is through some stunning scenery and takes just over an hour.

Tenerife also has attractions like Loro Park, whale watching excursionyou and many more. Look at your cruise line web site to see what tours they offer. There are taxis available on the quay side and the drivers have itemised tour itineraries on show or you can tell the driver what you want to see.

I do hope you enjoy your time there as much as we did.

Where do you get on the bus? Do we buy tickets before leaving home or is there a ticket office at the pier? We have one person with a walker and can only walk for a limited time and distance.

    Thanks for any help.

  7. When in Rome years ago, I bought a painting in the Spanish Steps area from a street vendor. Once I returned home I had it framed and it hangs in my living room.

These are the type of souvenirs that I like.

Are there street vendors in Barcelona, Cartegena or Malaga that sell paintings? I would love to get another painting for my house. I love having the memories to see everyday.

  8. We were not in the Haven suites, however there was an S in the category type. It was a 2 bedroom suite, which held 5 ppl.

Other than the butler and specific lunch and breakfast option of dining in Cagneys without the crowds, I prefer RCI. I found the MDR service horrible.

  9. I have sailed both RCL(many times) and NCL(once) in suites.

    The major differences:

NCL has a seperate waiting lounge before embarkation for suite guests only (this was in Seattle) with snacks(not just cookies) and drinks while you wait for your concierge to escort you onto the ship. The concierge takes you directly to the suite breakfast and lunch dining venue of Cagney's. Major Plus no fighting crowds in buffet upon boarding. You have access to Cagneys the entire cruise for breakfast and lunch. Once you have eaten lunch you can go to your cabin. Cagney's is a specialty restuarant at night.

They also have butler service. AWESOME!

This was was my only experience having a butler and must say it was pretty nice. He handled all our excursion tickets and delivered our room service when ordered each morning(with a smile). Basically anything we needed he took care of. We never used the concierge other than for priority disembarking for excursions and wheelchair service for my stepmother. We were not impressed with the concierge, she was not very friendly.

RCL could learn a few tips from this level of service.

Having said all this I still prefer RCL over NCL for cruising.

NCL could use some tips from RCL on all other aspects of cruising.

There are pluses and minuses to each cruiseline, we just have to decide which one we prefer.

We paid less for a 2 bedroom suite, 4 PPL, in Sept. on NCL to Alaska

than an OS, 2 ppl, in Jan. on RCL to the Caribbeain.

    Hope this helps!

  10. I'm gonna be on the other side of the spectrum. When I return from a cruise, I refill all my little containers for my bag. Toiletries are always ready to go. If I'm on a spring cruise, my shorts go into the suitcase when my winter clothes come out. So I'm already pretty much packed for my May cruise right now. Of course, several weeks before we're ready to go I will go through my list to make sure nothing is left out.

I've collected travel everything ... mini curling iron, travel cords, extra chargers. They all stay packed and ready to go. AND to answer your question ... YES, I AM OCD

I pretty much do the same thing with the toiletries, flat iron and cords, I just refill containers when my next cruise is coming up. Which I did yesterday for a cruise 2 months from now. Clothing, I looked thru everything, pulled out some pieces I want to bring. I put clothing in the spare bedroom and and usually pack about 3-4 days out, except for evening wear which is packed the morning I leave.

OCD also. But I rarely forget anything..

  11. I know these questions have been asked numerous times but we have no search option avaiable. Sorry.

I am sharing a cabin with a family member who always gets to the port later than I prefer to get there.

Is it possible for me to check in without her since we have seperate sea pass accounts or do we both have to check in together?

What C&A level has the option to have luggage tags mailed to them?

    Thanks
