  1. It is best to look at the Viking Daily delivered the evening before any excursion. The time and location for where to meet for any excursion will be in the Viking Daily. The time listed when you reserve your excursion is the time the bus leaves. Meeting prior to an excursion can be 15 minutes to a half hour before departure time. We missed an excursion once because we did not look for the meeting time in the Daily. They do not wait.
  2. In December excursions opened right on time. Restaurant reservations were open when i woke up in the morning and I am Atlantic time.
  3. Viking does have a referral program or at least did 2018 to 2023.in the US. If a person gives your name to Viking when booking then both you and that person get $100 off a cruise. Tell her to book with Viking and then transfer to a TA.
  4. We too were disappointed with too much ship light to see stars in SA. The Planetariums are not for live star gazing but for ceiling shows. One night on our cruise there was a star gazing lecture on Deck 9 where the lights were turned off for the duration. Due to an almost midnight sun down there, it was much too late for us to attend given our early and long excursions.
  5. It takes several weeks to really explore the incredible diversity of the island from rain forest to dry forest, from sandy beaches to high mountains, cave systems, Taino archeological sites, rock carvings, quaint and historic towns, coffee plantations, bioluminiscent bays and coral reefs.
  6. One thing Ronnie said that made me laugh - when he was talking about how and why local folk painted or did not paint their homes and then complained about how they were now painting them all bright, different colors now. Well, you have been in OSJ and seen how we paint houses here in PR.
  7. 2.5 feet will be welcome in the DV's
  8. On our West Indies/Amazon cruise last year we avoided walking through it for the same reason. We never ate at the Pool Grill because it was so hot.
  9. We always take visitors to the Cathedral, the San Juan gate, La Rogativa sculpture and into the Hotel El Convento as it is very nice. Old San Juan is the best part.
  10. The reason why we never want a forward facing Explorers suite. That fishing boat was way smaller then a Viking ship but... If you want some really exciting sailing footage, watch Around Cape Horn narrated by Irving Johnson. He sailed aboard the Peking in 1929 and shot the footage. I think this film should be featured on every Viking Round Cape Horn and Chilean Fjord sailing.
  11. We enjoyed the Golden Circle when in Reykjavik. Isafjordur we did the hike up the several levels of a waterfall although Vigor Island was most popular. Akurerei we loved Northern Treasures. Isafjordur we did the trip to hot spring baths at the edge of a huge lake in the morning. Can't remember the facilities name but it was amazing. In the PM we did Skalanes Nature Center and then walked the town on our own. Djupivogur we loved the zodiac iceberg trip and the scenery to/from was gorgeous. Missed Heimey as too choppy to tender.
  12. Yes it pays to actually look at the emails Viking sends and open the attachments.
  13. I don't think so. Nope just looked at the Viking Dailies from our trip. We did have an awesome wildlife photographer on board - Richard Lovelock.
  14. We had a bump out room once. Only problem was rolling suitcase got stuck there if we weren't careful and it was harder to slide suitcase under the bed from the foot of the bed. Not things we do too often.
  15. I wish...never saw fresh littleneck clams either. They always have crab legs and peel and eat shrimp though.
  16. You can only "request" your Guest Invoice through MVJ and it will be emailed to you. However if you use a TA, the request option disappears from your MVJ account. In that case you must call Viking direct or have your TA send it to you. I like our TA but I miss the option of requesting my Guest Invoice through MVJ. I know from past experience that Viking changes stuff - like docking vs anchoring, the hotel for your pre or post, times in port etc - and they never email you the change.
  17. Great! Hopefully will remind those who signed up and don't remember when and where it was to take place.
  18. @JollyJacqTar thank you so much for your description and candid evaluation of your ability. We signed up for the Falcony and Waterfalls one. Although slow, I manage walking up stairs better then down them. I can do this one!
  19. We always go to Guest Services to find out about tastings as soon as we board. They are never posted in the Daily.
  20. I was disappointed that there was no Equator Crossing party. I don't know if it was due to crossing that "sea" mark was accomplished on a river. I recall that day was scenic cruising on the Amazon. I was taking a sick day in our stateroom but probably would have asked why or inquired if not.
  21. Really? We were told to leave our bags on the bus, take note of our bus number and board the same bus to go to the port (or else tell them we would find our own way). I think you were on a cruise or 2 before ours. I guess the bottom line is that folks need to pay attention to what Viking tells them when they get there.
  22. In 2021 we arrived at 6 am on independent flight but with Viking transfer. They took us to Harpa where we were checked into the ship and actually received our room key cards. A nice breakfast was available and afterwards we had the choice of (1) just hanging out at the hall until transfer to ship at 11 am, (2) wandering on our own and returning by 11 to accompany our bags on the bus to the ship or (3) wandering on our own leaving our bags with Viking to transfer and finding our own way to the ship. We checked in, had breakfast, took photos of Harpa and then walked around a little marina next to Harpa. It was freezing cold and windy (yes July) so we returned to Harpa and found some benches inside for a nap. Enjoy! We loved that cruise.
