  1. It’s been awhile since we last cruised with Royal and it was out of Galveston where most of the rules about boarding don’t apply.

last time we just arrived at the port around 11 and checked in and then boarded right away because we were platinum.  This time we have a scheduled check in time of 1:30 and I am wondering if we can arrive earlier than 1:30 so we can board early as well.  This is our 40th cruise and we have never been given a designated time to arrive.  Is this the new normal?  We sailed last fall on Celebrity and got to the port at 10:30 and was on the ship by 11:15.
we are traveling in a group of 9 and they are all anxious to get on board early.  Thank you.

  2. We just got off a cruise but not with Viking and I wanted to share our experience with Celebrity.

We flew from Houston to Amsterdam with the majority of passengers wearing their masks.  I wore mine while boarding and anytime I left my seat to either stand or use the restroom. We flew in a day early and the next day at 11:00 we walked next door to the terminal and boarded the ship. We did have our negative Covid tests results and our vaccine cards that we had to show. We wore our masks while doing this and kept them on till we reached our cabin. It was ready and we dropped off our carryons and went to lunch. I brought my mask but did not wear it and few others had theirs on.  We were not asked to wear masks anywhere on the ship or even the tour buses. I did wear mine on the buses.

Everything was good till day 8 when the captain announced that 1% of the guests has contacted Covid and we would now be required to wear our masks in the theatre and the casino. There was 2500 passengers on board.   I had been wearing my mask each night in the theatre because it was packed every night usually SRO.

This scenario continued till the evening of day 11 when the captain again came on and said the percentage of sick guests was now 3% and we would have to wear our masks everywhere indoors except at our tables in the dining rooms. Day 12 was our last sea day and we arrived the following day back in Amsterdam.  Celebrity provided us with a really nice mask on day 8 for those who needed one.

We were never asked to take a test and I heard the ones in quarantine went to the ships Dr because they were sick.  Those in quarantine were on deck 3 and no one was allowed on that deck.  There was some people coughing in the public areas but they usually had on a mask.

it was a nice cruise but there were a few people who got angry when someone would enter the theartre without their mask and the Celebrity staff were quick to escort them from the room.

Anyway we sail Viking as well and I appreciated hearing your comments and thought I would share mine.  Safe travels to everyone on future cruises. I also believe Covid is here to stay, as least for awhile.

  3. Have a wonderful trip.  We leave this Saturday for Amsterdam to board the Apex for Iceland and Ireland and it will be our first cruise since Feb 2020.  We can’t wait either and we also have canceled 6 booked cruises due to Covid.  I will admit that this cruise has caused me some stress. We need to test negative on Saturday morning before we fly out, we are praying our luggage will arrive with us in Amsterdam, and that even though we are fully vaccinated and boosted, that we don’t get sick while on board. I wish the same for you.
Celebrity, while not our favorite, is still one of the nicer Lines. I’m sure you will have a great time.

  4. I called Celebrity today and she assured me that we do have the premium pkg no matter what my xpress pass says.  I questioned how the bartenders would know this and she said when they swipe the card it will show. She said it’s too late for them to correct it, but after we board guest services can issue us new passes.

  5. We are sailing on the Apex on August 1. I have my xpress passes but no where does it list my premium beverage pkg or our internet pkg.

Will that be on our cruise card that we get at embarkation?  Thanks.

  6. Has anyone used one of these tests the day before disembarking to fly home?  We are going on our first cruise since early 2020 and how to take this test in my cabin with either my iPhone or iPad is frightening? We are senior citizens  and my DH is technically challenged so he’s no help. I’m concerned about the wifi and keeping my device working for the 15 minute wait.  Celebrity doesn’t seem to offer any support regarding this. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

  7. Thanks for all your replies. We’re taking our kids and grands on a cruise next summer and I just paid for a beach cabana on Cococay which cost an arm, so I was just venting while looking for a cheap price for drinks and internet. I love Royal and know their prices are the best but everytime I see an ad from Celebrity or NCL with all their freebies it makes me think I’m missing out on something. Im hoping the Black Friday sale is a good one!

  8. Our upcoming family cruise on Harmony next July will include a day at Cococay.  We would like to rent a beach cabana at the Coco beach club. I read that they only accommodate up to 8 guests but we have 9. The youngest is 10 years old.  Does Royal ever let extra guests pay a fee to be allowed in?  Thank you.
