I know it's from an old post, but I must say - before I had a red headed child, I thought red hair was rather rare. I don't think so anymore. The red heads are everywhere! And they sure do attract attention.
P.S. We are in the States. Red heads are not rare here.
P.P.S. We tell everyone who asks about DS's hair that HE is Irish. Neither of us is Irish or red headed. :)

We've been on Princess Cays 3 times already, and the food has always been the same. Mediocre. I'd even call it below average, but we don't want to go back to the ship for better food.
We always find a place in the shade (trees) and try to enjoy ourselves. Never had a problem with the clam shells obstructing the views. What we did have a problem with was the sharp rocks hidden by the sand on the beach and in the water. I had multiple small cuts, and my then 4 yo sliced his foot on a sharp rock very badly. So, we now wear water shoes on Princess Cays.
Oh, and last year we had a problem with the grill smoke blowing directly towards the beach and enveloping the whole area. It was difficult to breathe and I got a huge headache.
But Princess Cays is still better than Falmouth or Cozumel for us.
Never had a problem with the tenders in either direction. There were always multiple boats going back and forth, and our total wait time has never been more than 15-20 minutes max.

just under 3 weeks in September for an adult. We'll have to renew our kid's passport in January, so we'll see how fast that goes.

just be aware that while Klein Bonaire is a perfect snorkeling place, it's an uninhabited island with no amenities.
But I hear it's beautiful. Our friends went there with their kids - they love snorkeling.
We went to Lac Bay on Bonaire and fell in love with the place. Shallow, calm water for about a mile, perfect for walking through, or bobbing on an inflatable, or just leisurely floating. Perfect for kids as well.
All the beaches in Aruba are free and public, no charge for chaises or umbrellas. We went to the Butterfly Farm first, and then simply walked across the street, walked through the hotel to the beach, got a couple of chaises in a palm tree shade and it was glorious and free. The water was great, sand was white, it was quite beautiful.

that is my dream itinerary, and that's your maiden voyage! All 4 of these are great beach destinations. Make sure to do your research by going to Ports of Call, Caribbean subforum and checking out all of them for the best beaches.
We usually grab some Fruit loops for the kiddo for a snack, but we usually come back to the ship around 1-2 pm, so we have no need to pack any food for ourselves. Some destinations don't allow fruit or veggies, but for others some pastries and a bottle of water was a good hold-me over snack.

WE've definitely been offered to buy insurance when purchasing an airline ticket. Cruises - too. Hotels are a bit different - when you make a refundable reservation, you can cancel 1-2-3 days prior to the arrival to avoid a penalty. Now, if you booked a non-refundable, instant pay hotel room, then it was a gamble on your part. Who's to blame for one's gambling nature?

for us the most valuable promotion has usually been $1-99 per 3/4th passenger.

well, I booked under this promotion about a month ago, and since then the price for my cruise went up twice.
From $709 pp to $879 pp to $1,094 pp... So much for not raising the prices during a promotion.

he said he used his Canadian passport for his US to Canada flight. As he should have. He didn't say he used his Canadian passport to enter the US.

car seats can be used on the plane... If you are wheeling it on a hand truck all the way to the gate anyway, might as well use it on the plane. That's the only way to guarantee its safety. Car seats get thrown around like luggage and may get damaged, even if gate checked.

mifold has had some problems when tested lately and is no longer highly recommended by car seat techs. Especially, for 4 yo kids, who aren't usually big.

even adults don't bother with the dinner jackets and ties.
My DS wears polo shirts and khaki pants. My DH wears buttoned shirts and nice dress pants. I haven't see any really dressed up boys.

I totally agree. The best way to see Falmouth is to stay on the boat. If you want to get off the boat and just walk around the pretty little port for tourists - that's just fine.
Outside the port, Falmouth is literally a fishing village. On our first trip there a couple of years ago, we went around it with a local "guide" for $20. Underwhelming at best.
If you want to spend money to go to the underwhelming beach, you can do that as well.

If you want alcohol included at a decent price or free, look into Princess' Sip and Sail promotion and NCL's beverage package perk promotion. If you get a "free beverage package" with NCL, be aware of the 20% tips they will charge you per day based on their $99 per day drink package.
Other than that, we found that traveling outside of school breaks was the cheapest (we usually went during the first 2 weeks of December). A couple of times we even got a $258 pp per week on Royal Caribbean, and it was available to mere mortals and not some Diamond class members.
Any sailings out of FL would include beach destinations. Try to avoid Cozumel, MX, Falmouth, Jamaica, and Nassau, Bahamas, though. Underwhelming they are. :)
I always have a budget in mind, and will not pay more than $2,500 per cruise for the 3 of us. Don't forget that this is usually a pre-tip price. We are going on an NCL cruise next week, for which I paid $2,000 for the 3 of us, pre-tip ($450 total) guarantee inside. My mom is joining us as a solo cruiser (double occupancy inside cabin) and her cruise was $1,036 pre-tip (tips are $150 pp for this sailing). NCL prices usually drop significantly just after the final payment is due. We are new to NCL, so this is just my observation.
Princess prices are unpredictable, but if you see a lower price prior to the final payment, you can always rebook at a lower price.
There is an NCL sailing on Jade in February, total for 1 person $ 942 75 including the drink package. 5 day cruise. Includes $20 per day tip for the drink package.
But do shop around and you will find a great option for you.

just for funsies. My dad had been smoking since he was 14 years old. He has lived the majority of his life in the country where most people smoke, smoke a LOT and smoke indoors. He was smoking a pack a day, and when stressed - more than a pack a day. He finally quit smoking when he came to the States at 57. Dad is coughing a lot less (he used to "cough up a lung" during coughing bouts), he smells better, he breathes better, my mom who endured the smell and the smoke breathes better, and everyone is a lot happier. If a person who had been addicted for that many years, and tried to quit unsuccessfully many times, could quit for good...
The problem with cruise ships is that the wind blows the smoke everywhere, even if the smokers are confined to one small area. There have been times when I couldn't even walk by the entrance to the casino on the ships or had to walk through a thick cloud of awful smoke on the upper deck. It was pretty bad. I couldn't remember or wasn't aware when the smoking areas were, so when I suddenly walked right through the yuck, it was too late to turn around. I can't stand the smell of smoke. I don't want to breathe the pollutants and crap in, and I don't want my kid to inhale them either.

Here are the images of a charging desk with chairs all around it and at the bottom of every TV pole there are several plug-ins.
We don't mind hanging out for hours at FLL airport. Wifi is fast and free, and the charging is available.
What is the weirdest thing you ever seen happening on an NCL ship! Just Curious.
