  1. If the current sale does not fit your needs just wait for another to come around. For us the sip and sail on long cruises works out well, we are sailing in Nov for 20 days with the drink package and 1 specialty dinner and our rate with the bev package is less that what they are currently selling that category for without the package.

by the time the deal I like comes around, the ship is sold out, the children in a particular age category are no longer accepted or the cruise is not included in the sale at all.

  2. 1) I would choose Regal or Royal Princess over Caribbean Princess

    2) if you are not sailing with school aged children and don't work for a school system yourself, I would go during the time when the schools aren't on break (holidays and summer/spring breaks).

It's always cheaper to travel in the first 2 weeks of December than during the holidays. Prior to having a kid we always chose to go during the much cheaper non-holiday and non-school breaks times.

  3. Honestly it’s not even fair for those true support dogs-as the previous poster stated there really isn’t a true place for them to get proper exercise when they are off. How about an alternate vacation?

is it fair for these disabled folk to never cruise if their dog doesn't get to exercise for a week? Not every dog needs daily exercise.

It's super hot and humid here in the summer so I cannot go outside most days. Most of this summer neither of my dogs got daily walks - and they are fine with that. Last summer was just as bad, but I decided to suck it up and take the dogs for walks - I had to stop, because I almost fainted several times. My dogs are low energy and low maintenance and do not require daily walks. They are not lap or decorative dogs either.

  4. People who have real support and service dogs have earned the right to have those dogs with them. They have real needs for those animals. I do not have that need or right. So my dog can not go.

    hugs to you.

For what it's worth, since I've only cruised 7 times so far, I have NEVER seen a non-service dog on a cruise. On one of the cruises a guy in a wheelchair had his dog with him. On our last cruise there was a group of blind people with their seeing eye dogs.

  5. September 17th Pacific Coastal is listed under the promotion page on Royal Caribbean's website, and the prices match up perfectly with what OP posted. My best guess is that since that cruise is currently part of the Going Going Gone sale, it might not be combinable with KSF, and the GGG rate is better than the regular price with KSF rate. That's just a guess though

    I think you are right.

The site's been glitchy. KSF page even "included" a March 29 sailing, and somebody was very upset about it the other day, because March 29th is actually excluded from the KSF deal.

    OP, you should call RCCL.

it doesn't appear that your cruise is eligible for this promotion. Are you sure it's within the dates eligible for a promotion? Which cruise is it and on which date?

When I bought my KSF cruise the other week, it clearly stated

  7. Holy crap (pun intended), I'm not reading thru that 1000 page thread to realize that many folks traveling with their "comfort" pouches are just gaming the system.

that is NOT what that post is about. It was created by a very nice person with an actual service dog in order to make lives of those who cruise and travel with a service dog easier in terms of planning.

I guess you didn't even read the 1st page, let alone 10 years worth of very useful posts.

  8. DS started cruising with us when he was 3 and fully potty trained. He doesn't do kid's club and tags along to everything with us. He is well behaved in general, but at MDR he has to use a tablet with games/cartoons, or he'll get bored like all the other kids we see in MDR, who are a total terror to the rest of the diners.

We can't even think of going on a cruise without him.

The lady in the article is out of her mind - asking about a refund because she didn't have a relaxing vacation. Lady, you have 3 kids - the days of relaxation are over!

  9. The nice thing about traveling in a suite (Star Class) for us is that it is with my son and granddaughter so we are going first class and creating memories along the way. Much better than leaving money when I am gone, in my opinion.

my family including my kid are creating great memories, while having fun on the ship and at destinations. We sleep in the inside room just fine. Our memories are not created in the room.

  10. I can't stand smoke smell, yet we've never had a problem on either RCCL or Princess sailings (see signature), as long as I avoided casino and casino entrance. Once in a while I caught a whiff of smoke when passing by on the upper deck where smoking was allowed, but it was rare - so rare, that I can't even complain about it. And, boy, complaining and whining are my favorite activities.

P.S. We've always gone on 6-8 night cruises.

  11. There is not a lot of "I wish I had saved more money," on your death bed. It's more like, "I wish I would have went there, or ate there, or took a chance on that, or tried this."
yeap, because the last thing people usually worry about on their death bed is their medical bills. The rest of the family who get stuck with them are the ones who wish for more savings.

But, of course, in OP's case when she is like - well, the difference is only $4K, I am sure she is not worried about future potential medical bills or other financial emergencies.

We are talking completely different financial categories of people here. For me $4K is a very sizable chunk of money, enough to pay for 2 cruises for my family. And 2 cruises for my family mean 1-2 years of cruising.

  12. Some ships prohibit anything being attached to the walls with tape or magnets and some ships prohibit over the door shoe hangers.

A simpler approach is to buy the wifi plans if you need to be in communication with your party throughout the day instead of trying to use the GMRS radios in a Faraday cage.

yeah, but the wifi plan is not going to be anywhere as cheap as a $5 magnetic dry erase board.

  13. I work in a job where all day long I see what happens when people forget, "there is no promise of tomorrow." All the time it's "I should have" done this or that.

    .

and I am facing a lot of people who have very unexpected medical expenses after taking trips...

There is usually tomorrow, but it's not always what you expect it to be.

  14. BIL is bringing these cool portable travel "car seats" that basically do little more than make a seat belt fit a child. Not sure if that's just giving him a false sense of security?

Bubblebum which is an inflatable booster doesn't provide a FALSE sense of security. If a child is of an appropriate weight (>40# ), height, age (4+) and is mature enough to use a booster, Bubblebum provides a safe seat belt fit, just like any other booster. The same goes for Mifold travel booster, although this one may not provide as good of a seat belt fit on smaller children.

Using a booster is very unlike having a child in a car without any kind of a life saving device...

  15. We always held our kids in our laps, or on the seat next to us.

    Funny thing, no one died

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Death is usually not a funny subject.

No one in YOUR family died by sheer luck, but haven't you ever read any news about people perishing in car accidents while on vacation in other countries? Laws of physics still apply when you are on vacation.

To OP: please check out the Family Cruising board on CC and Travel with Children board on www.babycenter.com for more advice.
