  1. Okay, so this is our first time on a jewel class ship, and I’m having a little trouble wrapping my head around what’s where in the Haven on the Jade. We have a Garden Villa and a Haven two bedroom booked for our large group cruise to Alaska, both on deck 14 mid. I know there is no Haven restaurant or bar. We’re okay with that, and none of the rest of the group has ever cruised in the haven before, so they won’t know what they’re missing. 😉 From the deck plans on NCL.com, it looks to me like the haven courtyard is on deck 14 mid and the haven sun deck is 15 fwd. But, the video walkthroughs I’ve watched look like the haven courtyard with the pool is below the haven sun deck, and that you reach the sun deck by stairs in the courtyard. That would match what I’ve seen in other havens, but it doesn’t match my interpretation of the deck plans online. Are there two haven sun decks? Am I misreading the deck plans or misunderstanding the videos? Can someone walk me through the Haven areas on Jade? Thanks!
  2. Maybe contact them and ask? If it’s a weekday in January and not near a holiday of any sort either in the US or Cayman, my guess is you’d be fine, but the attraction itself would be the ones to answer if they’ve ever sold out or not.
  3. The holiday is January 22, so I guess not. That’s weird that they’d cancel that far out unless there’s some lack of availability for some other reason. You can get there by rental car, but I’d want to confirm with the gardens first that they are definitely open that day.
  4. Downtown is wall-to-wall jewelry stores, mostly of the Diamonds International ilk, but there’s a few independent nicer shops.
  5. For what date? There is a holiday in January, maybe the park is closed?
  6. Are you sure she was on Pride of America? Maybe she meant people needed to show photo ID, which is true, and that she showed her passport? This screenshot is from the NCL travel documentation page
  7. Not sure about the dolphin encounter, but water shoes or fins of any kind are NOT permitted at Stingray City.
  8. Cabanas and villas count as excursions, and you can use those tickets to get an early tender.
  9. Since you do not leave the state of Hawaii at any point during the cruise, there is no need for customs or immigration. There is the usual cruise check in and security at the port, so you need whatever documents NCL says you need. However, if you don’t live in the US, you would do immigration checks on the way to Hawaii (or wherever your initial point of entry to the US is). You would need whatever documents are appropriate for your situation (depends on your nationality) to enter the US at that time. In other words, without more details, it’s tough to give you more than the above generic answer.
  10. Depends on what you want out of a beach. If you need facilities/food, see my post above. If you just want to DIY and throw a towel on the sand, Governor’s Beach is probably the nicest, IMO. For the return trip, go back to where they dropped you off and wave at the bus as it approaches.
  11. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding a taxi at the port, but you’d have to prearrange with them for the return trip. The caves are fairly far outside of town, at least half an hour from the port on a good traffic day. Leave lots of time for the return trip. IMO, a better option is a rental car, or an excursion that includes a stop at the caves.
  12. If you read the other recent “beach” threads in this forum, you will discover that either Public Beach, with some local food carts and the Kimpton bar nearby, or Coral Beach, next to where Royal Palms used to be, are the main options for cruisers wanting a beach club-type experience. If you want to DIY, there are numerous liquor stores along West Bay Rd between the port and the various beach entrances, and Kirk’s Market is a good grocery store along the way for snacks or sandwiches.
  13. You are thinking of Harvest Caye, where everything is an extra charge. We’ve visited GSC a dozen times, and never paid extra for any food or drink (assuming we had the beverage package). Basic lounge chairs are included, but “excursions” are extra…such as clamshell sunshades, cabanas, snorkel gear, floats. I believe all the same policies are in place for all of the NCLH cruise brands, we’ve shared the stop with other ships in the past and never noticed them checking ship cards for access to anything.
  14. Okay, I think I’ve misunderstood. We have four regular logins that come with the suite, in theory, two devices for me, two for DH. DH needs/wants streaming for at least one of his. Based on people’s comments, I assumed that the $10/day added streaming, but dropped us down to a single login for the cabin instead of the four. Is that not the case? Does paying the upgrade result in one streaming and three regular logins? If so, that’s all we need. I just don’t want to pay for the upgrade for him and then have me not be able to use the internet because DH is hogging it…
  15. Can you pay for two upgrades to get at least two simultaneous logins back?
  16. Is that $10/day per device or per cabin? We are in a Grand Suite, if that makes a difference. DH will need streaming but I won’t, and we are just trying to figure out logistics. Thanks.
  17. You can see lots of info about it on their website. https://palmheights.com I don’t think they offer day passes, so I assume you’re looking to stay there on vacation. It’s in a good location, IMO.
  18. Google tells me clocks change Nov 5th. If you are visiting Cayman before November 5, we will be one hour behind Miami time. If you visit after Nov 5th it will be the same time as in Miami. Your cruise line (or that CC forum) should be able to tell you if your ship changes times to match each port or stays on Florida time.
  19. It depends on when you are sailing and what port you sail out of, and whether your ship will change times to match the various ports. In general, in the summer Cayman is one hour behind Miami and in the winter it’s the same time as Miami. We don’t do daylight savings.
  20. Your two options are Coral Beach, the last remaining beach club on SMB, or Public Beach, beside the Kimpton hotel. Lots of posts and threads in this forum discussing the two.
  21. We purchased the Princess insurance in April for my BC resident mom’s recent cruise, she just got back this week. Glad she made it in under the wire.
  22. Most stores and some restaurants will be closed. Open places are all ones that cater primarily to tourists. Booking an excursion that day is a great idea.
  23. Book with Viking Ocean. You'll love their entertainment if you want classical music.
  24. In our second Greenland port last week, one enterprising young lad had set up a blanket along the roadway for “candy sales” to the influx of tourists. He had an open bag of gummy worms, and was selling worms for $1 each, although he’d also take euros. His English wasn’t perfect, but it was better than that of the older folks with more involved sales booths. You had to admire his entrepreneurial spirit and optimism.
  25. In our ES2 on Mars last week, we had a wall-mounted shaving mirror on an extendable arm in the bathroom plus the lighted makeup mirror on the desk in the closet.
