  1. Sorry to hear about your friends ruined cruise - so unfortunate! But these things happen. I certainly wouldn't expect Carnival to compensate me for the price of the cruise for something like that because accidents do happen. Refunds for excursions she couldn't take and medical seems fair. Hopefully that won't happen to me, but if it did I would probably try to make the best of it and enjoy lazy times on the ship with maybe a quick trip via crutches when in port to look around on possibly a van tour. When life gives you lemons you have to make lemonade.

Hope she managed to have a good time anyway... I would have done my best to enjoy and hopefully she did too.

  2. Wrong.

When those other numbers go to someone who fraudulently try to convince people they are Carnival' date=' it is Carnival's business. It violates Carnival's intellectual property rights and, also, Carnival could lose customers.[/quote']

I agree, and a lot of times it is a pure scam anyway. I appreciate the poster for giving the heads up! And wouldn't hurt to report to Carnival as well.

  3. From what I have seen on other threads, hidden gems. At least I don't recall anyone complaining of the motion or anything...

These two threads had pictures and comments about the rooms, I think they were the side rooms though, the 4 rooms in the middle are more standard sized but these looked really cool I thought. Might give you a bit of an idea anyway... I am considering for a cruise we are taking in 2017! ;)

  4. Glad you had a great cruise in spite of Circle C not being what you had expected. I would probably have been concerned with a girl under 14 having that kind of freedom to run the ship also, but sounds like she was a good sport about having her freedom curtailed! We cruised when my son was 15 and we rarely saw him except for dinner and shore excursions, he hooked up with a group of kids and we would spot them swimming in the pool, shooting hoops, etc... he was good about checking in and letting us know what he was up to though. They were rarely at the teen club, except for dances. They were all great kids though and didn't get into trouble. Same when he was 16. They all had a great time. I think the 12-14 age group on cruises is probably the trickiest, though. On the brink of teen years but not really old enough to have the kind of freedom they would like. In retrospect we were probably lucky that finances dictated we skip cruising during that stage, but he had a blast with the kid's club when he was 11... ;)

  5. John doesn't help people simply because he is kind... He isn't a volunteer. He does what he does because he has a job. His job is customer satisfaction. Either he or Carnival believe that asking people to submit such requests and helping people with these things are good for customer satisfaction. I would imagine that it would be easier for Carnival to know this request prior to the cruise. It seems that it would be easier to put someone at a good table as opposed to having to move them during the cruise. That would require moving someone else out of the table.

Fair enough - I just don't see his job as being a liaison between cruisers and maitre D's. Or every other minor detail of a person's cruise for that matter. And if everyone who cruised felt like you do, there wouldn't be enough hours in the day for him to handle it. But as I said, no skin off my teeth, and if it makes you feel better go for it. :)

  6. Indeed - which is why I worded it the way I did and made clear it is my choice to be thoughtful of other people. Nowhere did I tell her not to do it, or anyone else for that matter. It is certainly anyone's choice on what they want to do, just pointing out that sometimes people don't stop to consider that John is very kind and helpful but also busy.

No skin off my teeth if anyone contacts him for these types of things, go for it if it makes you happy. :)

  7. Wow - I would never bother John with something like this - could you imagine if even 10 families per cruise per ship did this? He would be spending his day micro managing for the Maitre' Ds... just seems like a lot to add to his plate. I personally wouldn't even IM the Maitre' D though to be honest and would just check it out when we boarded if it was that important to me (which I get why it would be in your case) and talk to the Maitre D if there was a problem with where they had set us.

  8. They do reserve the right to try to make it right whatever your concerns are.

But, yes, if the customer is adamant and they wish to invoke the guarantee, Carnival will let you off the ship at the first foreign port. Not the next port. The next foreign port. Otherwise they would be in violation of PVSA.

Hmmm, we are sailing from Vancouver to Hawaii in Sept... wonder how that would work out? Or would Hawaii be considered foreign since cruise began in Canada?

I can't imagine ever hating a cruise enough to actually do something like that - I have loved every cruise I have been on, even if not perfect, and always find something to love about it. Little things don't bug me, I am there to have fun and therefore always do. ;)

  9. I was going to go into a long discussion about ship's electrical power, but I will repeat that surge protectors are not needed onboard ship, don't work properly onboard ships, can cause serious problems onboard ships, and are not allowed.

I've gone back and found that this is one thread where I haven't posted the USCG Safety Notice about surge protectors, so I'll post the link. This is why the cruise lines don't allow these:

    http://www.uscg.mil/tvncoe/Documents/safetyalerts/SurgeProtectiveDevices.pdf

Thanks! Made sure the one I am bringing is not Surge protected. As a side note - the teenager in my profile picture is now in the Coast Guard, I will have to tell him his mom is following Coast Guard recommendations ;)!

  10. On land, a surge gets sent to ground. There is nowhere to send the surge on the ship, except back the way it came, which can cause all kinds of problems. That's why they say no surge protection.

Perfect - and makes sense, even to a blonde like me ;). Thanks!

So perhaps people whose power strips have been confiscated had the surge protection? I purposely bought one without surge protection and will be taking it in my carry on in the package I bought it in which shows it does not have the surge protection.

  11. From FAQ - extension cords, power strips (WITHOUT SURGE PROTECTORS) are allowed

Electrical devices such as fans, power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed on board when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

That's what I just said! ;) Several on a previous thread on this topic said that the ones WITH surge protection were not allowed - something to do with inconsistent power surges on ships that causes problems to the ships electrical system when you have a power strip with a surge protector.

To my mind, that would make it even MORE sensible to have a power strip WITH surge protection, but they were adamant that surge protectors are not allowed on board and the FAQ would seem to bear that out. People on this thread are saying to get power strips with surge protection so was just trying to point out that it appears from the FAQ that they will allow the ones without surge protection, which leads me to believe that they will not allow the ones with surge protection.

  12. Ok, I am confused. On another thread people were stating that power strips with surge protectors were NOT allowed and to only bring power strips without surge protectors...

And in Carnival's Restricted items list in "Exceptions" they state:

    https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2261/session/L3RpbWUvMTQzNTE1MTg4Ny9zaWQvYVBUNExIcG0%3D

Electrical devices such as fans, power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed on board when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

So which is it? Do they allow regular power strips, plug boxes and extension cords but not the ones with surge protectors?

  13. I'm not sure how it's unfair, the pricing for the old plan has been in place for a while. They *could* drop the per minute package pricing, but they likely won't. I wouldn't dwell on it and enjoy your cruise.

Is the WiFi package differences enough to make you switch itineraries to a ship with the new packages?

I explained why it seems unfair to me - Now that it is on most other ships, but not the one I will be on, cruisers on the few ships that haven't been upgraded will be paying more for crappier service than probably 80% of the Carnival Cruising population.

That being said, it won't ruin my cruise. I will just be paying more for less so to speak.

  14. Well I was very disappointed to see yesterday that the Legend will not be getting the new wifi prior to our trip in September with 5 sea days in a row. I know it takes time to get ships fitted out with the new systems and all, but my question is this. Even though the Legend will still have the crappier version of wifi, why can't the new PRICES at least be rolled out?

Because if you stop to think of it - I will be paying MORE money for LESS effective wifi than the other ships. WHY? If the other ships with better wifi are paying less why I am I paying more? Does that make sense?

And yes, I know it's a vacation and I shouldn't take my netbook and just unhook etc... etc... but the thing is I want to stay in touch with my kids, grandkids and hubby, post a few pics to facebook etc...

Not bashing Carnival in the least, I love Carnival and I know I will have a great time on the cruise regardless. Just something I am wondering. Seems a bit unfair when others are enjoying better quality wifi at a lower price.

  15. I would take copy of the email with you from Carnival, so if the bottles are confiscated, they will probably call you to the "naughty room" to explain what it is. Maybe even put a note with it and copy of the email??

    debbie

Yep - I would probably put a 16 oz bottle inside a zip lock with a copy of the email and protect it with soft clothing all around it so it doesn't break.

Personally - I do the "apple cider vinegar" also, but not bothering with taking it on our cruise. I can live without it for a week or two and go back to it when I get home. I also don't worry if they don't have my favorite soda or water and make do with what they have on board - I can live with minor dietary changes when my favorites are not available, but everyone is different. I like to keep things as simple as possible and just sit back and relax on my cruise. Plus a bit lazy to be honest... ;)
