  1. I seem to remember reading the other day somewhere on the Carnival forums that the $500 gift cards are mailed to a physical address and that the $100 gift cards are the ones that are emailed. Last week I ordered $2000 worth of $100 gift cards and they were emailed to me within the hour.

Perhaps someone can correct me if I am mistaken.

  2. The very same exact thing happened on our only sea day 2 weeks ago onboard the Carnival Imagination. The ship-wide/in-cabin announcement came at 5:20am. The young lady manning the Guest Service Desk told me if the missing passenger was not found, then an actual headcount would be done. There was a flurry of activity by security personnel around the Passenger Services Desk. Luckily, the "missing" passenger was found.

    February9, 2018

    GoodMorning Ms. xxxxxxxxxx,

Mywife XXXXXX and myself just returned from our 16th Carnival cruise yesterday.

Thiswas our 51st cruise overall with the various cruise-lines, many of which fall

    underCarnival Corporation.

If wemay offer some constructive criticism from an experienced cruisers'perspective.

It isnot our intention to get anyone into any trouble because our cabin stewardreally

triedand he was helpful but some cabin issues we feel could and should have been

    addressedin a more appropriate manner.

1)When we checked in to our cabin, my first order of business was to use thebathroom.

WhatI was not prepared for was a toilet bowl that had obviously not been cleaned as

therewas some evidence of "splatter" from the previous guests. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

2)What is going on with the lack of evening turndown service and ice in thecabin?

Youhave to ask for both when up until our last cruise these were both a given!

    3) Ongoing& recurring problems with the TV and the remote although these were

    eventuallyfixed by housekeeping.

4)Cabin reeked with the odor of "smoke" immediately noticed when oneenters the cabin.

Notso noticeable afterwards but like I said, VERY noticeable upon entering thecabin. To

me itsmelled like residual odor from somebody smoking in the cabin on a priorcruise.

Iknow we booked at a promotional price in a lower category cabin but I think weliterally

scrapedthe bottom of the barrel on this cabin, X-XX. Like I said, we have no intentionof getting

anyoneinto any trouble, let alone our cabin steward because he really tried.

Lastnight of the cruise, we decided to try our luck again by booking on theCarnival

Inspirationfor February 26, 2018. Booking # XXXXXXX. We've been on her before so we

saidwe will do this 4-day cruise again on her and hope for a better cabinexperience.

Weare also booked on the Splendor 7-day sailing on May 12, 2018. Booking XXXXXXX.

Imention these bookings so that you know that these are genuine concerns voicedby

    twoloyal Carnival customers.

    Regards,

  4. Our Sunday travel section today had a column about the cost of cruising compared to other vacations. It stressed, even with added gratuities it is still a bargain vacation.

Some land-based all-inclusive deals are starting to give cruises a run for their money.

Last month we spent 4 full days in Cabo at an all-inclusive resort including return airfare from LAX and car rental for the entire

stay and we paid $329 per person, taxes/fees included!

  5. These gift cards have been available in $100 denominations just about every day I've checked since maybe a year ago? It's the $500 ones that are harder to obtain.

Either way, a great way to pay off a cruise or settle an onboard S&S acct. I used 6 $500 cards for a Horizon cruise and saved $300 there, and I have another $1,000 for my casino expenses and whatever on the same 8 day cruise, another $100 savings. Throw in the $640 price drops we received from the early saver rate on our spa balcony cabin and I think we got a good deal.

    (y)(y) 2 thumbs UP

  6. NCL (and cruise pricing in general) have taken a giant leap upwards the last couple of years.

"Real" deals seem to be getting harder and harder to find, I am talking deals in the region of $50 per person per day.

In 2016 we did 7 cruises, in 2017 we did nada but at least so far this year we have managed to nab 3 (although we have

to admit that we upped our strategy to $60 per person per day).

The only exceptions seem to be the longer repositioning cruises.

We have 4 CruiseNext certificates left that we may have to offload on ebay or craigslist as they expire soon.

  7. Hi Fred, I've done the Jewel and the Star NCL to Mexico so you're probably right about crossing paths. Thanks for the kind words. One thing prevalent on these boards are cheer leaders who think their cruise line can never be wrong and it's the passenger who's not tolerant. I feel that when I buy a product or service it should minimally live up to it's advertising and promise. You'd think I ranted about never sailing with Princess again over this incident which would be incorrect, I have 4 more cruises booked and then I do plan to look at smaller ships.

Now that you mention it, I think it might have actually been on the NCL Star in Nov 2014. I seem to remember we exchanged pleasantries at the Internet Cafe.

We haven't been cruising much lately, last-minute deals seem to be getting harder and harder to come by. Although this year we did manage to snag 3 so far. Last year we did nada. In 2016 we did 7 cruises.

Hope to cross paths with you again one of these days and apologies for hijacking your thread here.

  8. We were in Barcelona last April. Barcelona provides a FREE shuttle which stops at all ship terminals and then drops you off at Columbus statue at foot of La Ramblas. The sign is small and not obvious so you may have to ask someone where to wait for the shuttle. At that time, Princess provided a shuttle for $8 per person.

Free? We've been to Barcelona numerous times and I do not recall ever riding that shuttle for free. In April 2017 we paid, I believe, it was 3 Euros each to the Columbus stop. Here is a link:

  9. Hey CruzSnooze,

We crossed paths once, I seem to remember it was a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise on the NCL Jewel in Jan 2016.

Hope you have been doing well.

Just ignore the posters with the snarky remarks, too many people like to hide behind the anonymity that the interet

provides, most of them wouldn't have the gall to say those comments in a face to face situation. But I don't need to

tell you that, you have plenty more experience on here than I do.

Take care of yourself and be well.

    Fred

  10. Don’t just whine about something you don’t like, offer a solution. What do you want the cruise line to do to solve your perceived problem? My solution would be to insert the word “usually” in front of the words “no waiting”. Nobody is ever starved on a cruise ship and if your life onboard can’t stand a few minutes of waiting you are living your life wrong.

WOW, just WOW!!! Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or didn't get any last night!

  11. Just request what you want, we go for Parmigiano Reggiano ( you know the cheese they used to use for the basket of Alfredo pasta in a basket {now a thing of the past}. That and a piece of Gorgonzola Dolce and Heaven comes tumbling down. Enjoy. By the way a well placed piece of green paper is always appreciated

Who would know that better than a Reverend? :D:D:Dlol....lol...lol..rofl

Please pardon my wicked sense of humor Ron the Rev, I just couldn't help myself when I read your comment.

  12. 5 one day solo suite cruises would also get you Elite.

A few years back Princess couldn't give the short cruises out of LA away. These were put on 'fire sale'. (Cheap and your fare was credited to a longer cruise.) Plenty of pax were booking b2b2b to do the run up to Elite.

I very well remember those $199 short Pacific Coastal cruises out of LA very well. We milked it for all we could. You'd pay $199

for the cruise and then get that $199 credited back towards a future cruise! Deal of the century. Those darn cruises are now some

of the most expensive cruises out of LA....so I guess it has paid well for Princess.

  13. Try this:

Request a few chunky pieces of Grana Padano cheese from your server

Pour some olive oil in a plate

Sprinkle a few drops of Balsamic Vinegar on the olive oil,

Hard crust white bread dipped in above and then place a piece of the cheese on the bread

Indulge, you'll think you've died and went to heaven!

It is literally to die for!

  14. Real deals on Princess seem to be getting harder to come by.

The last insane deal we nabbed from Princess was our 28-day cruise in Nov 2016,

on the Crown Princess ~ Los Angeles/Hawaii/South Pacific/Los Angeles.

We got a balcony cabin on Lido Deck, unobstructed view, just short of $2000 each

(including port charges/taxes/fees) for the 2 of us plus $750 non-refundable onboard credit.

Holding out, hoping to replicate that deal next month on the Emerald's same itinerary.

With Princess dropping Apia (Samoa) and pissing off a bunch of booked passengers who

are cancelling this cruise, we are keeping our fingers crossed that it may happen, but who knows!

If not, we'll wait for the next opportunity. No rush from our side, we've already done 3 cruises

so far in 2018, none of which were on Princess.

    Patience is a virtue.
