  1. It was free, it's booked thru carnival and a done deal. No online scam, or otherwise. We spoke with carnival directly. We pay nothing. Guess they want our business back. We'll go for the free deal, but we do love Royal....

You can give them my name. I'd love to go.

  2. They allow you to bring your own filled glass of wine to the MDR? Wow! And does this HAVE to be in one of their glasses, or can it be one from home?

This will be my first RCCL cruise this June.

They wouldn't know if you brought it from your room or a bar. On Celebrity I brought a glass every night to the dining room.

  3. If I think someone has been rude to me, as people say and mean things in different mannerisms, as we English differ from our friends over the pond. I always Thank them for being so co-operative, this either leaves them puzzled, confused and thinking he got that wrong. My English way of showing I'm not fazed by your tone. Being Polite to someone who doesn't warrant it often pi$$es on their strawberries, that's the English way.

I was a food server for many years and that is exactly how I handled rude nasty customers. "I am so sorry, how can I fix this?". Embarrassed them every time.

  4. Great perspective. It seems that a lot of people can't see beyond their own little world. My daughter who is 21 years old and a model (both print and runway) always asks "how is your day going" she is actually interested in how her fellow man/woman is doing. You wouldn't believe how people respond.

Now we are all learning from our children. Our society needs to relearn some manners. I was always taught never to put myself first.

  5. I agree with other posters, the drinks of the day were cheaper a long time ago not now. You just get a nice cup you can keep and store in your basement . we have about 25 cups down there. i should open my own royal bar in my basement

ROTFL. Same here. I do use the martini glasses though. :D

  6. While we are on the subject of rude cruise ship staff, when they do greet you with good morning, how are you, how many reply with and how are you? Are you having a good day? My son who is high functioning autistic asks me everyday "how was your day". Just curious because when I respond with this I get lots of surprised looks. I am vacationing with the love of my life and they are missing there families like crazy. Sorry, guess it's the wine.

  7. I'm sorry that you didn't have the cruising experience that you expected and that the rest of us look forward to on RC. Just a heads-up: please know that it is unlikely that you will get much sympathy from a board where 99% of the regular readers/posters are "loyal to royal."

It sounds like each incident could have been easily forgotten, but when you add them up, they made for an unpleasant experience. I've cruised multiple times with RC and there has never been any occurrence that I've wanted to complain about. I guess if I think hard enough, I could make a short list. But, we've had so many positive experiences that these far outweigh any frustrating incident. Keep in mind that the crew are from various countries with different customs. For example, we were talking candidly with a bartender one night. She told us that the crew was given a talk about body language. She said to us, "Body language! What is that? In my country, there is no such thing." Maybe so.

Regarding your second observation: putting used cups next to clean ones was a health concern. The staff tries very hard to control the spread of infectious disease on the ship and what you did didn't help to control it. And who knows...maybe the staff had a stressful meeting the day before about this very topic, so it was fresh and raw on the mind of that staff member.

I hope that you enjoy your future cruise experiences on whichever cruise line fits your expectations.

    Very nicely put.

  8. Liability issue yet they will over serve anyone willing to buy drinks? Why not buy your child drinks if they are almost of age? The majority of kids that have issues drinking in college are the ones who never had a drop prior.

I so agree with you. When we were teens, early 70's, parents said "don't go out and drink and get caught, I will not bail you out. There is a full bar in the basement, drink at home". We did it one or two times, no fun and until I was well into my 40's only had one or two drinks a year.

  9. I agree. There CAN be problems. Save the headache and potential problems and get a passport. If something were to happen in the islands and you miss the ship, you could be in big trouble without a passport.

This could be a big deal. Our last cruise our table mates had to fly home for an emergency at our first port. Good thing they had passports.

  10. It sure is a pain. A lot of threads are getting buried because many post new threads since they cannot find their answer within the first few pages of posts.

And Thanks! I will google that!

I am thinking of adding it on the first night, to take effect the next day. I am not sure we'd use it the first night for all it is worth so I may rather pay by the drink the first day- and I am still undecided if it will at all.

We plan to do this as well. First day we won't drink as much plus we will use the BOGO from our crown and anchor for wine and beer at dinner. Let the drinks flow for the remaining 7 nights.

  11. I think the implication is that younger people tend to have a higher tolerance, drink more than older individuals. This is obviously a gross generalization, but I can see the poster was implying $400 was on the higher end of a bar bill in his post.

Never drank more than 2 or 3 drinks a year until I turned 50. Now I'm getting the premium package. :D
