  1. My husband just got off the Sky and he said you could pretty much get anything you wanted. His first drink was a double vodka bloody mary. He also said he'd never seen so much drinking and likened it to a three day wedding reception.:eek::eek::eek: But there weren't any problems reported.

  2. I did a quick estimate of both for April, 2017 and the Haven is double the price of the MSC ship. I would have to do a lot of research to find out why. The Haven was just amazing.

I think people are still leery of an Italian line. We sailed on Divina in the Yacht Club last December and loved it. The rather small pool and hot tubs are outdoors in an area with a bar, similar to Vibe. There is a private "Navigator" type lounge, and all the food and drinks in all the areas of the Yacht Club are included. Not to mention your mini bar, refreshed twice daily. There are four 'square' balcony suites available, (amazing!, we had one), that are larger than H4s on NCL. We've sailed in an aft H4 on the Breakaway. All that being said, it was still a little 'off' for us and the jury is still out. But man, what you get for the price.....;)

Sorry, js, just noticed you asked about MSC first.

  3. Hi, what is an "onboard postcard"? I have not heard this phrase before. Do you need to pay for an internet package to use it?

What Sam said. I think they're only available on the Sky and they're very cool to send back home.

Teambanzai- I'm not exactly sure where they go, but the Sky has just been sort of slowly cruising around the sea between Nassau and Southern Florida today.

At least my husband reported in his postcard that he won $100! :D (I assume in the casino.)

  4. We have also made the jump to MSC YC from NCL Suites/Haven because the suite prices have become insane in our mind. We still check NCL monthly to see if we can find any deals for dates we can sale but for our three past cruises MSC YC has come in $2,000 or more less. Other than smaller rooms the YC is superior than the haven in our book. However, MSC's website is not for the faint of heart. It is pretty much total crap.

slapulator- Try phoning in and asking for one of the 'square' suites. They don't cost any more than the regular suites. DH and I got one in Dec last year and it was HUGE. And a much longer balcony, too. ;)

  5. NCL Havens don't even come close to touching the elegance of MSC's Yacht Clubs. We dumped our Escape cruise after the nit-picking nickel and diming NCL pulled on everyone, (except for those of us in the Haven), in March 2015 for our December 2015 cruise and booked the Divina during the same time frame, and similar ports, for unlimited drinks, food, outdoor pool and two hot tubs with no change in price. Best move we ever made.

  6. Just a small aside to Hicksville, et al, (that includes me;)),: I've been cruising for over thirty years and I don't believe that even once have I received a dish in the MDR of any cruiseline that came close to the menu description. The tablespoon and a half of food I get is always such a letdown after the flowery descriptive paragraph that foretold it. Therefore I've learned to temper, (pun intended), my expectations. Is it just me???

  7. I'm not sure. I always thought nothing really worked in the shaver plug. (?)

I always bring a few battery operated tealights. They really add a nice ambiance. I put one or two on the bathroom counter and sometimes one on the floor near my slippers.

  8. Hi my DH and I did this tour last year. It had many rave reviews and frankly I was underwhelmed.

The sail to St John's was awesome, beautiful. We sat aft and really enjoyed views, commentary about who owned what island, etc.

The snorkel part wasn't very impressive. We jumped overboard and though water was exquisite to swim in didn't really see anything. Guests were instructed to swim/ snorkel to beach. Relax there and then return to cat once signal was made.

The beach is small, beautiful but there were a lot of people there, it is not an isolated area. Personal lounge chairs, kids, families were enjoying the beach.

We came out of the water, sat on the sand. Enjoyed the view while our snorkel gear got throughly covered with sand.

Upon return to cat we began the sail back amidst much forced gaiety by crew.

Drinks were provided only at that point. The champagne, rum punch was plentiful and not too horrible.

After the cruise I thought a lot about that day and why it was such a disappointment. I think it was because the reviews were so hyped up, the snorkel experience was a waste of time. Beach as a destination would've been fun but it's not an isolated location. This aspect was not well communicated. Definitely sailing was enjoyable, views fantastic so lesson learned: next time either just go sailing or just go to the beach. Skip the expensive excursion sold by the Cruise line.

    Enjoy your cruise!

Very helpful and informative information, Balconyaft. You are a true asset to CC. :)

  9. Yes it is, they gave us black as we are Diamond on Cunard, makes no sense to me, cant workk out why they did it either

It's really quite simple and brilliant. They are trying to steal loyal customers away from the other cruiselines. And succeeding very well, it would appear. ;);)

And I've also heard that cruiselines much prefer new customers, who tend to spend more onboard, over 'loyal to the brand' customers who know more about how to save money and get the best deal and/or cabin for their money.

Maybe it's just an American thing.....it happens all the time on this side of the pond.

    Cheers,

    Alison
