  1. Thank you, JB, I look forward to giving it to you! :)

I've been popping in on the NCL Escape thread from time to time for updates because I've already invested so much time there but I just can't get excited about that claustrophobic Haven. We sailed on the BA in one of the large rear Haven balconies last year and never once ate in the restaurant. It was just tooooo far away. I can't wait to live 95% of my cruise in the Top Sail Lounge, One Pool Bar/Sun Deck, or Le Muse. Woooo hoooo!!!!:p:D

  2. My first taste of MSC begins in 32 days with the above posters. :D DH and I were booked on the new NCL Escape in the Haven on the same date, (Dec 5), but switched after all the changes NCL shoved down everyone's throat in a very short period of time. Devaluation indeed. I was so ticked that I jumped ship. And I am quite certain the CEO took notice. ;) So I completely understand MSC cruisers being unhappy with the current downgrades but I look forward to trying the YC on Divina for the first time.

    Cheers,

    Ali

  3. I thank you for a fair and balanced review.

False advertising should always be called out. Hopefully it helps the rest of us BIG TIME. (But, knowing NCL, probably not). You people that couldn't care less about the little things need to learn to respect the people that do care.

And Customer Service, at least in my opinion, is the place people go to to get problems resolved. Posting employees there that are uncooperative, incompetent, ignorant, illiterate, impotent, and/or not willing or able to resolve any issue a customer has should be transferred or fired.

I believe the cruise line pretty much owns you and your luggage once you board. Keep in mind they all fly foreign flags, but this is also in effect when you check your luggage at any U.S. airport. They always retain the right to inspect your luggage, with or without you present. That's exactly why they always state you must use a TSA lock and I don't even bother to use any lock. DH and I cruised on Princess two weeks ago and there was a notice in my suitcase when it arrived that stated it had been inspected. I assure you, it was not. ;)

BTW, we had the same problem with the "blinking phone" on the Breakaway. I had to throw a towel over the damn thing.

  4. We've never tried Segways before but this sounds like an excellent idea for San Juan. Thanks for the idea everyone!

Seaworthy01~~~Take 2 Advils before your tour and two more afterwards. (Wash those last 2 down with a beverage or shot of your choice.) Then pat yourself, (gently), on the back for being brave and having a memorable experience. ---:eek::cool:---

    Cheers,

  5. The flu shot is a cocktail of dead virus that will not make you sick.

People that get very sick after a flu shot were going to get sick anyway.

It's your choice whether you get a flu shot or not but your reasoning is flawed.

I totally second that! I used to get a 'goose egg' inflammation on my arm and not feel so hot after a flu shot, which gave my husband a convenient excuse not to get one. I've since learned to direct the nurse to the area I where I don't get a reaction, (just at the outside edge of the muscle), and have no more problems. Nor does my hubby, whom I escort. ;)

Everyone needs to get a flu shot if at all possible.

  6. I finally took the plunge when the market did it's own plunge last week. Just waiting for my August month-end statement to post online and I will be getting that fax off to Santa Claus, er Clara.

Sorry to go off the rails here, but.......how much OBC credit do you receive for 100 shares? Thanks!

    Cheers,

    Alison

  7. Thank you for doing this Pete! (And Mike;))

    :)

I've been trying to find a photo you once posted of the exterior of the Divina YC cabins. I have one of the 'fat' YC1's booked, port side, and you had a great photo of the balconies. I think it was a post where you were helping someone with a sheltered balcony. I remember you had the red X's on the pics that they were concerned about. Unfortunately I got a new computer and lost my old bookmarks. Any chance you could find it again? I covet YC porn shots. :p:D

  8. That's how heated debates start-

    1) a Person posts something of anything, even kittens.

    2) Wait for someone to not like it.

    3) ?????

    4) Profit!!

You ain't gettin' no tree fiddy, dam loch ness monster!

As someone else posted, they blow the ship's horn several times. There's no way you can miss that. I think DD and SIL were too busy getting trashed. It's pretty easy to do in that port.

  9. Water should be available to everyone who requests it and not just a chosen few! this once again brings up the question as to whether MSC are breaking any EU laws with this continued nonsense.

Here, here! Succinct and well put. I can totally understand someone being angry at being charged more than other pax for anything.

  10. Thanks, Alex. I now recall that we've never paid for water in restaurants in the UK. I guess that's why this whole discussion confused me when I first saw it here on the MSC board.

The tap water in Los Angeles currently costs about $5 per 748 gallons. We have historically considered it a practically free commodity and would raise holy Cain if anyone attempted to charge money for it in a restaurant because it would be so silly. Do you have to pay to wash your hands in European restrooms? Because that uses a lot more than one glass.

In times of severe drought one typically has to request a glass of water in a restaurant here, it is not automatically provided. And of course, it's still free. Desperate times call for desperate measures.:p

  11. Thank you so much, Alex! That helps a lot. :)

It just feels so strange for us here to pay for water, which has been free for us for all time. (Although I live in drought-plagued California. ;))

  12. Okay, now you've piqued my curiosity. Do Europeans only drink bottled water? Is your tap water not generally safe? Or is it that you prefer mineral, (sparkling), water vs. flat water in a bottle? Or do you usually drink tea, coffee, wine, beer, etc. with your meals?

We in the U.S. drink tap water with tap water ice pretty much with all of our meals and the water tastes fine and is certified safe. If we are traveling, or going to the gym, we'll take flat bottled water with us.

All the cruise ships that sail within U.S. waters must maintain certain water quality levels. They have very high-end filtering and/or osmosis systems that typically provide some of the finest drinking water available...both in the restaurants and in the buffets.

What do I need to be prepared for when I sail in Europe???

BTW, I booked a cruise on Divina in the YC for this Dec. at a fabulous price, so I'm not so sure about that U.S vs. European pricing scenario. ;)

I mean no insult to anyone in this query.....I'm just confused.

  13. I'm loving your blog, Nicky! It's very well done. :) I think I'll put this cruise on my bucket list. ;) I just have to figure out how much it would all cost considering we live in California.

    Thank you for sharing!

    Kind Regards,

    Alison

  14. Well I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but I booked the Divina for this December just to experience the Yacht Club for the first time. And I can't wait! In fact, I prefer to sail somewhere I've already been when I splurge on a suite and save the nice balcony cabins for cruises with a lot of interesting ports when much less time will be spent in the cabin.

I haven't sailed with MSC yet but from what I've read on this forum the Divina has much more of an "American" feel to it than their other ships.

Bottom line in my book......you've got two excellent cruises booked. What's to decide???

    Have a GREAT cruise(s). :D
