  1. Not bad suggestions, but those are all mostly remnants. Seems we in the USA demolish anything older than 100 years. How about any working churches or fully restored locations like, St Peters or any number of castles in Europe. Fossils and craters in the deserts are cool, but there's nothing like Pompei or Domo. Don't get me wrong I love road trips around the US, but it's much different than road trips in Europe. Sort of like Bourbon and Whiskey, both are good just different.
  2. Where in the US can I find 1000 year old history or even 500 year old?
  3. We ate twice at 150 CP on Wonder during our Thanksgiving cruise. Both times we sat down after 8:00 PM and never felt rushed.
  4. No need B&W is fine. However, I would buy some luggage tag holders to put them in. I bought some years ago and use them when we cruise. I cut down the tag, fold in half, and insert in the holder. They have really strong steel loop chains to attach to your luggage. Much better and easier than folding, stapling, and/or laminating.
  5. I'm not sure on what you base that statement. Pedestrian walkways and access at San Diego is horrible if not down right dangerous. It's been that way for 20 years. The current construction makes it even worse for both peds and autos. There's no easy direct walkway to get to Harbor Drive without walking through a bunch of parking lots or weaving around buildings. In fact, SAN for a major international airport is one of the worse around for anything. It's old, small, dark, security checkpoints suck, and it's cramped. Finally getting the trolly there will help as will the new parking structures; until then the quicker you can get in/out the better.
  6. Obviously you weren't on our Thanksgiving week cruise that debarked at Port Canaveral or our July Navigator of the Seas that debarked at San Pedro.
  7. Might look walkable but it isn't, especially with the current parking garage construction. Uber or taxi is always good. As a suggestion, in front of the terminal it will be a zoo. If you can do it walk across Harbor Blvd, or all the way over to Pacific Highway, or down the embarcadero to Brigantine Restaurant and have an Uber pick you up there.
  8. DHS is already involved who do you think those CBP officers work for?
  9. Same reason they keep trying to get everybody to get a Real ID, national security.
  10. Do you? No. Should you? Yes. We were just on the Thanksgiving week sailing of the Wonder and we had to divert to San Juan to off load a stroke victim and his three sons. Luckily it's a US port so probably not an issue. Had we been further south maybe would have been an issue. Second, when you debark at PC if you have a USPP they use facial reorganization to clear you. You don't even show your passport book, just look into the camera, get a green light, and get your luggage. Two people in line in front of us getting off the ship. The other line, "government ID and birth certificates" not so lucky.
  11. I think it's a limited menu after a specific time, but like you it's a moot point for me
  12. I paid $3200 pp for last Thanksgiving week in an OS on Wonder. Actually, we didn't start out on the Wonder but ended up on her. That's what advance planning does for you. We paid about $3500 pp for a Penthouse suite on Oceania for NYE cruise in 2019/2020. $10k for a GS even for a holiday is way over priced for a RCCL ship. Not saying they aren't charging that. I just looked at the Allure for NYE and sure enough a GS is $5500 pp.
  13. I wasn't sure if it was Hertz or not. The drop off was at a hotel down by the sea wall and not an actual rental office. This would have been 2012.
  14. Nope for two. I once got an OS on Oasis for $2800 pp. My brother got a CLS on the same sailing for $3100 pp, and our most recent OS on Wonder for last Thanksgiving week was $3200 pp. I would never pay $5000 pp for a GS.
  15. I don't, but I usually use Hertz. But I don't see anybody other than Enterprise either so maybe they stopped doing the drop off at the hotel.
  16. Taxi or Uber. We have sailed twice from there and found taxis to be plentiful. Check the fine print for the drop off location. When we were there one of the hotels on the island would take rental drop offs. I found if we dropped off at the hotel location on a Sunday I paid until Monday when somebody from the rental company came and checked in the rental. We ended up dropping off during business hours and using a taxi around the island for dinner and to the port.
  17. Certainly not for an RCCL ship. We have sailed in four OS on Oasis class and one GS on Marnier; never paid more than $6500. However, upcoming Rhone river cruise is another story.
  18. We had a hardcopy room service menu and several door hanger breakfast order forms in our OS when we sailed on Wonder.
  19. For food the Cajun Greek is outstanding, but not much of a view. Woody's Bar no food, but fun place for a drink right on the beach.
  20. Michael, our Wonder CK waiter, was fantastic. Jean, Ass't Manager CK, was also outstanding and got us RSVP's at 150 CP when it was booked. Listra, our cabin steward, went about/beyond and was super personable. Michael, Jean, and Listra are three of the reasons I would go back to Wonder.
  21. We had S2 & S3 and liked them a lot. Close to food, bar, and restrooms. I walked around and looked at the Hilltop and didn't care for the location; some were up a fairly step trail and there wasn't near as much flat space around them. We had some young grandkids with us and being on the sand gave them plenty of space to run while we sat under the shade and watched. Kids your age that shouldn't be an issue.
  22. Taxis are abundant that's what we ended up doing to the ship when the hotel shuttle was packed and we couldn't get an earlier transport. On the island we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Resort. Both were nice. Garden Inn wasn't really close to anything except the Walmart. Holiday Inn was in a much better location for food and walking around. Both times we used a taxi to take us to dinner the night before we cruised and got his number to come back and take us to the ship.
  23. If you make it to Laurel go to the Pit Master BBQ not to far from the store and shop.
  24. We feel your pain. Last (2021) Christmas/NYE we drove San Diego to St. Augustine, FL and back. It was great to be free at last.
