Agree that it’s unlikely it sold out.  I just don’t see why they would lie and lose possible fares. If they sent out the Spirit cancellation, why not send the Jade?

The Spirit is a whole different situation. The dry dock is not finished on time, the ship is in France  and they have a lot of different itineraries to move around before even getting the ship to Tokyo. It probably is more cost effective to just scrap the whole deal. Based on the prices and cabins still available for the summer, I don't think a lot of those itineraries were selling well anyway.

due to sail on the 28th July but as of yet not received any email from NCL.

I have just spoke to them and as usual the person i spoke to didn't know anything about this and said the sailing are still due to go ahead as planned.

It makes no sense but the phone reps are the last to know. If you booked through a TA the email was sent to them.

  3. Looking at the deck plans, I don't see a corner.

    Cabin: 14070 Detail Information:
    Sub Category: BA
    Cabin type: Balcony
    Occupancy: 3
    Located on deck: 14
The bed is located closer to the balcony door
There is a single sofa bed in this cabin
    Cabin size: 151 square feet
    Balcony size: 52 square feet
This cabin is located on the port side of the ship
This cabin connect to cabin: 14066

I loved my Epic balcony.  It is a family balcony so you are not far from the kid's club. The bed will pull out a bit from the wall so if it seems too short, just pull it away from under the headboard.

Oh, the light over the sink has a switch underneath it to turn it off. I had to call and ask!

I always travel with one of those large claw style hair clips.  Obviously it is great for piling long hair on top of your head when you swim, sauna, spa, etc.  But the best thing I use if for is to close the window drapes at the middle.  Grab a pleat of the drapes from each side and use the clip to hold them together.  Light always seems to seep in from that spot.

For those of us without enough hair to justify buying a big clip, you can use a coat hanger with pants clips to clip the curtains together, just place it vertically and clip the two sides together.

Oh my god, could you explain why you went this route and if it was economical? The Corks and Caps package would have been about $600 for the week per person, whereas had you just added the regular beverage package, it would have been only the cost of gratuities, and you could have paid for your specialty dining out of pocket. Surely that would have been significantly cheaper?

You'd be saving almost the cost of an entire cruise!

Agreed! The cost of a three or four day dining package is minimal compared to the menu prices.

    This is what NCL say:

Guests who have traveled from, visited or transited via airports in China, including Hong Kong and Macau, within 30 days of their voyage embarkation, regardless of nationality, will not be allowed to board any of our vessels. The standard incubation period recognized by the WHO and US CDC for this virus is 14 days.

Guests who are denied boarding will be issued a refund when they provide proof of travel.

The fleet is in a "no self service" mode, so you will be served at the buffet, I can't imagine why anyone would not get served breakfast until 2pm,

The breakfast was delivered as everyone on the quarantined ship must stay in their cabins. I was just reading some of the comments and it is not a good situation for some in inside cabins. Just reinforces my resolve in never booking any cabin without a balcony.

  7. I priced a Canada New England cruise on the Gem that is part of the February Latitudes deal today. One person, seven days, balcony, over $4000. I am paying less than that for 9 days on the Spirit in Japan next Fall. Back to back from Quebec back to Boston would be over $7000 for two weeks. Not going to happen.  I need to see a major quality improvement to justify the luxury pricing!

I'm honestly not sure if it would, but I'd be checking my travel insurance to see if anything would be covered.

Depending on your state of residence, Nationwide Luxury Cruise pays for missed ports if the cruise line notifies passengers of the changes before the ship sails. If NCL keeps messing with schedules this coverage probably won't last much longer.

The last cruise before a drydock and the first one afterwards are always a crapshoot.

Usually we'll watch from O'Sheehans as well.  But it's not the same

For most of the events, they are what 30 minutes long?  It's not a horribly long time to stand.  I do find it funny seeing people run for an empty chair like roaches when the lights go on.

Maybe that is not a long time for you to stand. Good for you and your good knees. Not everyone is that lucky. Just because you can't see a disability doesn't mean it isn't there.

What a shame. Years ago we cruised twice on the Spirit and the sauna in the spa was open to anyone. No spa pass needed. No doubt this will be gone after upgrade if it hasn't happened already.

The best thing about the Thermal Spa is that the extra cost keeps the crowd down. Quiet, uncrowded, no kids. Worth the price to me. If the prediction about kids running all over the ship because there is no club to corral them, the spa will take on greater value.

  11. I would rather wait than book an itinerary that will change. My last two cruises had itinerary changes that were disappointing at best. My cruise insurance coverage for port changes has decreased considerably(1200 last year, $750 now)

I don't know if that is just for NCL with all of their changes or for all lines.

I see that you will be on the Sprit in Japan.  So will I leaving July 6.  Do you know what airline they will be using.  I will be coming from Los Angeles.

My placeholder flights were through Taipei and Beijing. I am too much of a control freak I guess. I cancelled my discounted flights and booked with Delta to Haneda. Sorry I don’t know. I have read it is usually either AA, United or Delta.

  13. I just had a minor panic when the Spa pass appeared as "bookable" on my Explore and Plan page. It is not appearing in my "booked extras" area on the Summary page.

I just checked and I do have a confirmation that I paid for it the day it became available.

Do I just bring the printed confirmation to prove I booked?  I don't remember it not showing up on my summary page on previous cruises.

    Thanks!

The crowded events in the Atrium can be frustrating from a couple of angles - for people trying to see the event who can't get a seat, and for people trying to move through the ship who have to fight the crowds, on multiple decks no less.  I'm not a ship designer and won't claim to know why things are designed the way they are but it wouldn't surprise me if the ship's designers are actually quite pleased with the crowded Atrium.  It creates an atmosphere of excitement that they may have desired.

I do wish the most popular shows (e.g. newlywed and Deal or No-Deal) were in a bigger venue.

On my last cruise I had to spend a more-than-normal amount of time at both guest services and the ShoreEx desk. Trying to scream over a loud band and not being able to hear the other person talk just added to the frustration. I do enjoy sitting up in the bar area of O'Sheehans and watching the atrium shows, but trying to accomplish anything important is hopeless.

Supposed to sail on the Spirit in May from Japan to Hong Kong Just got this email today about some of the changes.

I’m sailing in November and I received that today as well. I hope the downside isn’t kids running all over the ship because there is no place for them to go and be supervised.
