This was DH's first time traveling with a wheelchair so I'll share that experience as well.  ... Last year DH was struggling with walking long distances, so early this year he finally decided to get a folding power travel wheelchair. We decided to keep our non handicapped aft cabin because we love the wake view. The wheelchair just barely fit through the cabin door and folded nicely so it was not in the way in the cabin.

What brand and model was the wheelchair? How wide is it? I use a rollator which does fit thru our non-handicap stateroom door. Should I need a wheelchair while we are still cruising, I would like to remain in our preferred location if possible.

I am glad your DH is more eager to travel/cruise now that he has more options.

I would make your reservations ahead of time but in order to use the dining credits I think you may have to call.  I’m not sure if you can make reservations online using your dining credit.

Yes making HIA dining reservations can be done online - you do not have to call. You will be given the option to select Complimentary (or something similar) - be sure to select this or you will be charged.

First timer, leaving in exactly one month. 1) My husband and I noticed that we can check in on line in the app. How far in advance should we do this? 2) Also, we have not received any emails from HAL about the cruise since we booked w/ a PCC several months ago. Is this normal or are we missing something? Does HAL send pre cruise emails to passengers? We do have our cabin and excursion invoices, which we requested at the time booking.

You can complete your check-in now or wait a week or so. It must be done 3 days before boarding. HAL sends an e-mail when your boarding pass is ready - but you have to have completed check-in before then. You will probably get more than one notice that your boarding pass is ready - with a possible time change. You can print the luggage tags as soon as they are available but no need to print the boarding pass until there's a barcode on it. I download each version as a PDF when first available and but print only when a barcode appears.

Is there somewhere on hollandamerica.com that you can see your OBC?

Can they be used pre-cruise to book packages, shore excursions, etc?

You cannot see your OBC online. Have your TA or PCC send you an updated receipt/confirmation. It will be there.

OBC is the abbreviation for On Board Credit. HAL does not allow you to use it until actually onboard. However, you can book Specialty Dining or Shore Excursions using your credit card. Then, once onboard, you can have the amounts transferred to refundable OBC. Go to the Guest Services Desk to have Specialty Dining charges transferred and to the Shore Excursions Desk to transfer shore excursions. The prepaid amount(s) will be transferred to your refundable OBC - which goes to your credit card on file if not used onboard.

I have never done anytime dining and would be interested to know how one books the dining times

On embarkation day, go to one of the Specialty Dining podiums. One is near the Pinnacle Grill and the other between the Lido Pool and Spa. Only 50% of the anytime dining table are available for reservations. Depending on the ship, you may be able to reserve all nights, just the next 3 nights or just that night. You can also talk to the maître d' or call Dining Services from your room.

  6. Normally the Early Booking Bonus has been available until a year before departure or a year after the cruise was announced. However, in the T&C there is the warning that it is capacity limited and may not apply to all cruises.

I have an onboard credit and pre-paid my unlimited laundry package online via the HAL website by credit card.

Ideally it should have been out of my onboard credit.

Is there a way to correct this? If not no worries the onboard credit after the cruise will be zero 🙂😉

With HAL, onboard credit (OBC) can't be used until onboard. To use your OBC for laundry, first cancel your pre-paid laundry package and it will be credited back to your charge card. (This is done from My Itinerary.)  Then when you send out your first laundry, select Unlimited and the amount will be deducted from your OBC. There is no discount for pre-purchasing.

Got this bell hop Lewie and the HAL history book. Lewie is 29.95 and book is 49.95, but both for 39.95. Although I thought the book was cheaper pre-booking, but can't remember!

The sign says the book costs only $10 if purchased with Bell Boy Lewie and is regularly $29.49 - that's the pre-cruise price as well. The book was originally priced at $54.95 (per what is printed on my copy), but HAL has been selling it at the reduced price for quite some time.
