Unusually for Regent, Splendours two calls on 21st and 27th appear to be scheduled for the "Rade", which will be anchored outside the port. Although the latter looks as if it's not been verified. Grandeur on 28th is shown on the quay "Digue".

We are due to dock/anchor Monte Carlo April 27th on the Regent Seven Seas Splendor

    What is the "Rade FTV"?

We have only ported there 2 or 3 times but docked each time. As hank has mentioned, at anchor would only be used if the port is very busy that day.

I suggest you look at the 2024 cruise schedule  on the official Port of Monaco website  or on cruisetimetables or similar where you can look at your date and see how many other ships will be in the same day. You might also learn if you are to be definitely at anchor or docked.

I will look this up. I was going off of what our itinerary from my husband's work says as it says "Anchor".  Could be just a word they used as I just looked at Itinerary on our Regent account and it doesn't say which.  This is a Charter Cruise that his work has done.

Is your ship ancoring right in Monaco itself ? Or even on a pier in Monaco ?

Then I would opt to eat your lunch on board.

Monte Carlo is very walkable and you can visit for example the ducal palace and the cathedrale nearby (where the tombs of the late Count Rainier and his wife Grace Kelly are) in the morning and

walk along the race track of the Formula 1 and see the Casino on the other side in the afternoon.

Yes we are anchoring in Monte Carlo, Monaco

If you like to visit nice houses, go visit the Prince's Palace for a view of a really "old money" house.  The Grimaldis have been the rulers since 1297 and have occupied the palace (with lots of renovations) for 700 years.

    https://visitepalaisdemonaco.com/en/

Also fun to see are the mega-yachts at the harbor.  If you want "rich and famous" you are at the right place.

Will keep this in mind for sure!

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions.  I really appreciate it!

We like the idea of a nice picnic somewhere with a nice view.

Like I said he wants to walk around the Casino to say he has been there, not to actually play. He doesn't play at the tables.

I like to window shop! I don't want to spend the money, but I love to look and dream! My favorite thing we do once a year is going to the multi-million-dollar open houses at home and act like we could afford it!

I love to also just sight-see and take photos of the pretty views.

We buy day passes almost everywhere we go as having one means not having to look for change or machines each time boarding whichever form of transport it is, and with a day ticket a single validation is usually all that is required when using for the first time.  Monaco buses are very easy to use and routes and numbers are available to view online.

I am looking at the website and it now says "Single tickets are available, along with passes valid for multiple journeys. They can be purchased from the C.A.M. website (See ticket and pass prices).  You can also pay on board buses with a debit or credit card.Single tickets are available, along with passes valid for multiple journeys. They can be purchased from the C.A.M. website   You can also pay on board buses with a debit or credit card."

So I am guessing that means we can now purchase a day pass with credit card on the bus?  I don't really want to create an account for one day online!

Also, I don't even take the bus at home, so I am stuggling a bit reading the schedules. LOL I will get it figured out though!

Do take the one which terminates up at the viewing area next to the Jardin Exotique if only for the views of the principality spread out below. and check if the boat bus/bateau Bus still accepts them as the short ride through the harbour is worth doing and is a fun little thing to do.

You will find that Monaco/MC is actually much hillier than you might have expected, and they are steep hills, not gradual inclines, hence the free elevators.  Again, Google to find them as you might want to use at least a couple of them on a first visit.

Thanks again. We don't get to travel much. My husband won this trip at his work so we want to take every cheap advantage we can!  We did excursions at all the other stops this is the only one we didn't do an excursion on, figured it was small enough to do somethings on our own.  Its good to know thats its hilly before we get there and our legs are mad at us!  I will for sure look into the bus routes and elevators! I may have to start taking the stairs at work so get prepared! I got 2 months! 🙂

cruzin 1616 I had a senior moment when I posted the above thread and instead of "quoting" yourself, I Inadvertantly quoted a different member, which meant you would not receive a CC alert to a new post.  which you should now have😀.

I understand totally!  I appreciate all the info! Knowing that you can get a day bus pass is good to know. I will have to check out the routes on that.   I have been googling alot for sure.

Google is my best friend for sure, my co-workers tell eachother to ask me to google it for them! lol

Here is a map showing the Casino Supermarket right at the port.  They always have a great selection of cheese and cold cuts, pastries, fruit, and ready made food, etc.  Pick something up and a bottle of wine and you are all set.  Picnic somewhere along the port.  There are benches right across the road.

Thank you that is very helpful. Sounds like a great plan to me.

Get something at supermarket and have a picnic!

  10. Our cruise will be stopping in Monte Carlo end of April.

What are some good cheap places to eat for lunch???? I am trying google and not getting far on good and cheap!

Also anything you recommend we for sure check out?

We be on foot so would need to be in walking distance to the port.

We plan to walk to the Casino and look around it.

I'd also add a visit to Eze is very nice, when docked in Monte Carlo.    The tour we took with Regent did a bus to Eze, with walking tour.   Then took us back down to the Royal Palace just in time to see the changing of the guard.

I will for sure keep this in mind. Seeing the changing of guard would be nice to see.

We booked an all day private tour to Florence with a stop at a small winery and of course a stop at Pisa. I thought it was well worth the money because we got a better understanding of what we were seeing, the history of the area, early access to museums and a great stop at a small bakery for some lunch and treats. The guide made all the difference in the world. I would recommend a guide to see this city and surrounding area.

@pappy1022 was this done on your own then? Who did you book through?  I have never done a excursion that wasn't through the cruise line.

Years ago Regent offered an included "Florence on your own" which buses you into Florence and sets you free to wander. We booked timed entries to the Uffizi and the Academy (David) through https://firenzemusei.it/, picked up the tickets for both at the Uffizi, and had a lovely day before we met the Regent bus back to the pier.  There are also tours into Tuscany from Livorno, like Siena, which fellow passengers liked.

Monte Carlo doesn't actually have much going on besides shopping (unless you want to pay to see more of the famous casino than just peeking in), but you can take the train to Nice and see the Chagall museum and the Matisse museum.

From Sorrento, you can go to Capri. I was just on a Regent cruise that stopped in Sorrento, and I wish I had taken their Capri tour.

Once you have your exact itinerary arrival/departure times, and you find out if Regent is running their usual included tours, you can make better decisions. You will have plenty of time to book non-ship tours between now and April, even if you don't get your info until January. We got a lot of information from the Rick Steves Mediterranean Cruise Ports guide book.

This is helpful! I expect us to get more info closer to January as that’s when we have gotten more info in the past about our corporate trips. Normally we find out who gets to go and where in August and then more info in December/January when we fill out our “yes, I’m going paperwork”!

    thank you

Sorry, for some reason I thought you had said October, without a year.  My mistake.

I have no experience with corporate cruises with Regent but with cruises offered to the public, a variety of shore excursions are part of the cruise fare--"free," if you will.  So, no need to spend any money on shorex if you find included shorex to your liking--well, except for anything you want to buy on the excursion, any food or drink if not mentioned as part of the shorex, and tips for driver and guides.

If your corporate cruise does not include no-additional-charge shorex, then, yes, Livorno would be the port to spring for a tour.  Look at the destination boards--there is one for Italy--for lots of recommendations of tour companies to use.

    No worries!

I haven’t done a corporate cruise before either. This is a first for them. They normally do a resort somewhere.  We were told there would be some free excursions.  Appreciate all your info so far!

I have a Regent cruise in a week so I can tell you afterwards. What I’ve read on these boards is that it is a mixed bag ranging from poor to great but I would say the majority of them are good and worth taking.

I can’t wait to hear about it. Have a great time and enjoy!

Looks like your cruise is 19-24 October 2024, when the Splendor shows a gap in its public offerings, going from Barcelona to Rome (Civitavecchia).  Monte Carlo, Portofino, and Sorrento are all easy ports to walk around and explore on your own.  Regent will likely offer a number of tours that include walking around these cities.  Livorno is for Florence, so you'll likely be on a bus there (maybe including Pisa).  Will be a combination of walking and riding around Florence for some vistas.

For tips on the ship, make your way over to the "Reviews" section or read any of the "Live from" threads.  It is a beautiful ship.  All of the food--including specialty restaurants--are built into the fare, so you won't have to spend money there.

Our trip is next year. We were told April 2024 and the gap I found was April 24-29th We are awaiting more details to be sure of our dates.  Just found out a week ago about trip. Getting a head start on trying to plan so we are prepared to jump when things open up to us. And where to use what money we get saved from now till then.  So if Monte Carlo, Portofino and Sorrento are easy to walk and explore on our own than would it be better to do a paid excursion for Livorno? Since Pisa and Florence are further away!

The ship does look beautiful!  Can’t wait to go!
I will for sure look at the “live from” threads.

  17. We are going on a corporate cruise on Regent Splendor in Italy. Never been on Regent before.

Can you guys tell me how the free excursions are? Would like to save our money to buy stuff and enjoy the food. We are not one to use taxis so prefer to walk or be part of an excursion to help us get places.
So far we have been told our stops are Sorrento, Livorno, Portofino, and Monte Carlo.
Also any tips on the ship would be helpful.

  18. I'd say cabs to/from will be no problem. As far as staying together, that will depend on the individual group. Do some want to swim with dolphins and others snorkel? Do some want to Kayak and others just lay on the beach? Do some want to watch the sea lion show and others do zip lining?

When we were there with our kids (group of 5), it was no problem staying together. But it all depends on the group dynamics.

It's us and our kids (15-23yrs). We all want to swim with dolphins for sure, as far what else, I am not sure. I didn't know they have zip lining. I will have to look into that.

My concern is getting there and back all together.
