Wow. Very strange. 3 days is like half a cruise almost.
Just a little inconvenient for us to get to the dining room but at least we didn't have to change cabins.

What CDC protocols? Like a covid positive passenger? Seems a bit extreme to shut down for hours and hours.
No one has answered those questions in the 3 days since they closed it off.
-
Bonaire was listed as closed and it was showing up to about a week before we sailed. They may announce some itinerary changes but the announcement will be September protocols and which ships are coming back.
-
Neither is this. Carnival shut down from the mid ship elevators to the forward elevators on Tuesday and it has remained closed. I was told by mutiple crew members that it was done because of CDC protocols. This is right outside my cabin so I have had mutiple opportunities to speak with crew members and someone who's cabin was in the closed area. They moved his luggage to another cabin without telling him.

We're booked on Mardi Gras for Thanksgiving week, and one of our kids is 7. The other is 14 and vaccinated.
What is the process for requesting the vaccine exemption for our 7 year old? Do we need to wait for a communication from Carnival before we can make the request? Or do we just call Carnival's 800 number?
Carnival will send an email. November is a long way off and right now they haven't announced September.

Very odd.
Do you think I should call back and see what another agent says?
Do you have a PVP? If so call them first and if not try again. I wasn't able to extend the date for a different cruise that I used a TA
-
I got an extension a couple of weeks before final payment for my September cruise.

Is it $300 per child (ie $150 per test)? I interpreted it as the $150 would cover all.
$150 total for both tests.

Does anyone know for sure or where it is stated that vaccinated people can’t get off in a port if they have someone unvaccinated sailing with them? For example I’d like to go to the pool in amber cove with my vaccinated daughter while my wife stays on the ship with our unvaccinated son.
thanks in advance.Yes. You can get off if your vaccinated and traveling with someone who is unvaccinated. I have gotten off in both Aruba and Curacao to get charms for my daughter. The only requirement is that if you take a bubble tour you must board the ship before you explore on your own. I checked a few times and then again at security prior to getting off in Aruba.

Hi BlerkOne, was someone quarantined on your sailing? I heard something about it.
I don't want to hijack BlerkOne's thread but there are a lot of rumors. I am right outside the area and the only official information that I received is that it's closed because to satisfy CDC protocols.

I’ve been absent from all things Carnival for quite a few years but recently started following along again when they restarted sailing.
It’s nice to see Heald is still up to his old tricks of making an announcement that an announcement was coming and then delaying it for days or weeks. He was notorious for doing this when the Vista class was being launched and his (semi)annually ‘dancing of the ships.’
I was a huge Carnival fan at the time and this lack of reliability was one of the factors that pushed me away from the brand. ☹️
It wasn't John Heald who made the announcement but Christine Duffy in an interview from the other day so something had to have happened to make her hold back on releasing the information.

Is she restricted from doing things?
The only restrictions involve going off the ship. She must do bubble tours. The kids clubs are closed and they're not doing the Dr Seus stuff but everything else is open. She's had a blast and the crew has done a great job making her cruise special.

Hmmmm Good points. Suddenly children will be a cash crop for Carnival?
Their not making money on the testing. There's a lot involved in processing the exemptions and then all the additional procedures for boarding.

We've sailed with Chris twice - first on an 8-day Caribbean out of NYC on Horizon in 2018 and second on a 4-day Bermuda out of NYC on Sunrise. We loved him. He is an amazing entertainer; if he performs his "Flying Scotsman" solo show, don't miss it. It's not every performer who can move seamlessly from singing "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake to an opera aria.🙂
I have seen him on YouTube doing that and can't wait to see him in October.

Curious as to how many have applied for exemptions for unvaccinated kids? How many were approved and how many have been denied?
We have one coming up in October and wondering what our odds are.
I'm sailing right now with my daughter who received an exemption. The only denials that I saw were for adults.

I plan on vaccinated cruising.
Even then there can be a positive case. We have someone quarantined right now on my deck and apparently they're vaccinated.

I guess there are still things to do for the kiddos but I saw a youtube review of a recent sailing and they stated the kids club is closed. Not sure if that is still the case but I would want that open before I take my kids on a cruise.
Yes. It's still closed and all the Dr. Seuss activities but everything else is open including build a bear. The only real inconvenience has been the bubble tours. There's only 2 per port and most have sold out. My daughter is still having a blast.

Has anyone been denied or granted exemptions for toddlers? I heard they were not allowing tots. Thanks
There's several toddlers and at least on adorable baby girl on the Horizon on the 7/10 sailing.

Sorry...I am confused. If my husband and I have a 600.00 credit and use 1 credit card for our Sign and Sail account do each of us need to spend 300.00 separately to use all the credit? Or, can I spend 400.00 and him 200.00? (example)
Second scenario....3 girls on cruise issued 300.00 credit for a rebooked cruise. I would have to use 1 credit card for the Sign and Sail account to get the complete credit, right? I paid for the entire cruise for my sister and my friend. Did I understand this correctly?
Each person must spend their own OBC. It doesn't matter who pays for the cruise or who's credit card is used for the S&S account.

They bought stuff at the last minute to get the OBC that was left. The point is that the $600 is split to the 2 people so if each didn't use their $300 on each S&S card it would be lost.
This is correct. My wife and I won't have an issue spending the OBC but my daughter will still have a lot left after gratuities so we have been using hers for everything else.

Just curious how you know these specific facts? Is this first hand knowledge as far as cashing or buying gift cards?
Yes. I am on the Horizon right now. I asked about the gift cards and there were a few people that tried in the Casino.

It's per person and the promotion OBC says non-refundable in my S&S account. The shareholder benefit was only my account. People have tried to cash it out and it didn't work. Also, you can buy gift cards but it won't use the OBC to fund the purchase.

When and how did you do the exemption? We don't sail until October but I am a planner so...
Carnival sent an email with a link for the exemption form that which had to be submitted within three days. Our approval came back 8 days later. The initial email came about 30 days out and it sent to everyone including the people who booked through a TA. When our itinerary changed that came from the TA but not for the exemption. Also, the cruise must be fully paid off prior to submitting the exemption request.

My biggest issue the my 8 year old. The exception process then testing and no potential for no kids club…. I’ll be glad to go regardless. I think.
The exemption process was pretty straightforward and at least on my sailing all the under 12 were approved. Testing wasn't much of an issue but some families had to scramble because they got a rapid test instead of a PCR test for the precruise 72 hour testing requirement.
The kids club being closed was disappointing but not a big deal. My daughter is having a great time regardless.

Yes. I am on deck 2 on the port side and they didn't hold anything on this side. We were walking down to the aft and then taking the stairs to 3 for dining. There were door decorations all the way through that section.
I have only talked with one person from that area and they moved him out of there.
