My thoughts are very much with the passengers who had to endure these awful conditions, and I hope that those with injuries recover quickly and without lasting consequences.

"Cruise passengers 'scared for their lives' in storm" is the most-read item on the BBC website currently, and the story also features on the Sky News website.

General booking has opened for the Jan-March 2025 period, and since my 80th birthday falls in that period I had been very interested in celebrating it on a Saga cruise. However, until I am convinced that Saga does indeed put the comfort and safety of its passengers first, before any commercial considerations, I'm not going to proceed with any booking. I doubt I'm the only one with such concerns.

I have every confidence in Saga. The full facts have not been reported correctly. When you consider Saga cruises have been in operation for many years they are a responsible Company and this was an exemption and safety ports had been closed. A Fred Olsen ship also got into trouble with damage to the ship. Exceptional yes but we take the risk travelling on the Bay this time of year. Too many scaremongers won't help

Firstly sympathys to all aboard. Can't imagine how awful and scary it was for you.

Just asking and if I'm being silly just say.. Why are you still having food in and being told to stay in the cabins in what now looks like fairly normal stormy weather during the winter months. Is it because the restaurant is still being used as a field hospital? ...

Being cynical I wonder if they want to keep the passengers in their cabins and apart so that they don't start asking very difficult questions..... If I was the Captain I would start looking forward to my new job with Saga, probably involving toilet duck.....

Safety given the age and disability of guests. Silly remark re the Captain cleaning toilets. The team have done their best in exceptional circumstances and I congratulate them and the wonderful crew working through this. Seasickness hits them too

Sounds good. We didn’t book anything - we fancied the Caribbean trip on 6/1/25  but we get off SoD that day!

Unless you have pre-registered for that particular segment of 2025 (Jan to March or April 2025) you will not see the full list of available cruises until Saga has gone through the process of calling all the people that have pre-registered to give them the option of bagging the best discounts.

They will then open the booking to the general populace.

Could be 2 -4 weeks from now at a rough guess.

In the past some kid souls who have pre-registered have posted a summary of the planned itineraries. But there will be no prices available at this stage so you can be into educated guess territory by comparing costs this year for an equivalent cruise and adding a bit for inflation

Yes, smart casual is always fine in the Grill, even on formal nights. You won’t miss out on the formal night menu either, as it’s the same in the Grill as the main dining room. Waiter served, too.

Apart from the speciality restaurants and the main dining room, smart casual dress is now fine everywhere else on the ship on formal nights.

Nope you can't go to the treatre

Contact SAGA or your TA in advance and let them know what you want. Then it should all be sorted by the time you arrive in your cabin.

Except it doesn't always get to the steward . They will change it

I've always booked direct , but reading today's paper noticed travel agent , with low prices . I was curious,  so checked. A standard cabin as only just over a hundred pounds cheaper than Saga guarantee,  but a midships suite was over six hundred cheaper.

It seems travel agents do have last minute bargains. Will this trigger price promise

Did you look at Saga deals on their website as all of the Canary cruises have big discounts? Also you won't get your Britannia nights if you book via an Agent. You also can't book excursions on line as your contract is with the Agent and not Saga

Hi - we're Saga newbies but have some experience on other lines. We booked 3 weeks to Cape Verde on SoA departing 13 November '23 on an unassigned basis - and were subsequently allocated a 'G' grade standard cabin when Saga reduced their advertised price at the end of July. We booked through our normal TA and received a discounted fare and Saga also added a 'new to Saga' discount - so overall an attractive price. We're happy, so much so that we've added the following 2 weeks on a back-to-back basis as we were offered an irresistible price for an unassigned reservation.

We like the Saga website - particularly the ability to view the number of available cabins. There seem to be quite a lot, c 152 and 172 standard cabins still available on the 2 sailings. Does anyone know if the 'unassigned' element of bookings is included within this availability, i.e. 'net', or might we expect to see the number of vacant cabins reduce significantly as unassignments are assigned closer to sailing dates?

Secondly, on other cruise lines when booking back-to-back cruises we've previously been allocated the same cabin so keeping our fingers crossed that we'll be able to stay in our 'G' grade without moving for the second leg. Anyone enjoyed a similar experience?

Many thanks for your consideration. Peter.

If no one has booked your follow on cabin there's a chance you can keep it. It's a game of chance which cabin you'll be allocated. If you look at what's available. Usually bow cabins  with restricted views from the balcony. Stern cabins and Sun deck cabins. Although Sun deck  dearer there's a chance that lower decks will be sold before Sun Deck.So if anyone is afflicted to the motion of the ocean these cabins I wouldn't take a chance on especially in winter.

  9. Just a thought when you have port assistance to embark do you have a crew member that comes to your cabin to escort you to your Muster station?  My usual cruise line does so hopefully someone who has port assistance can let me know.

That's totally understandable and we fully agree that FOCLs should make balconies non-smoking. FPCLs won't allow fags to be puffed in their offices in Ipswich so why have balcony cabins with ciggie fumes wafting into neighbouring cabins on the ships?

We very much hope that you enjoy your cruise and come home with many happy memories.

Smoking on balconies should be banned. For that reason we would never book one.

I don't know what you mean by "the bot" but earlier this year Saga decided that cruises booked through travel agents wouldn't be counted towards Brittania Club. Does this affect your number of nights?

There are some Agents Saga will use and your Brit nights will be recognised. Who they are? No idea

Well, we are only doing Saga this time as my elderly parents wanted an easy cruise i.e. door pickup/drop-off, no flying, cheaper insurance etc. It is for their benefit as I would not ordinarily pick a Saga cruise as very happy with Azamara, Oceania and Silversea.

Things we do for our loved ones and the sacrifices we make😂 do your best to enjoy it !
