  1. You really just need the boarding pass and luggage tags (or bags can be tagged at the port). The rest of the information is there in another attempt to make sure passengers read and understand the Terms and Conditions of the ticket contract.
  2. As soon as you board, register your credit card at one of the kiosks and avoid the lines that will form (you have forty eight hours to do so). Make sure that your credit card knows that the preauthorization will be coming in from a foreign bank (usually French) so that it is not denied. Because all transactions on board ship are through the foreign bank, use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees if you have one.
  3. ??????? It means that as of the time of the itinerary being set and published, time in Stockholm is estimated for arrival at 7 AM and departure at 6 PM. The time the ship will actually arrive depends on many factors that day (weather, pilot availability, ship traffic, etc.). The time the ship will depart (may or may not be 6 PM depending on factors the day of the port call) will be given the day of the call. Please note that all aboard time is earlier than the scheduled departure time. There is also the possibility that the port may be cancelled or switched to another day.
  4. You are not being penalized as a solo cruiser. MC, like many cruise lines, have solo rates that are the price of cabin for two plus sometimes an additional charge to make up for the projected revenue of a second passenger's on board purchases. Sometimes a solo rate is offered that is 75% of the cost for two passengers in the room . MSC has good rates and they keep them good by deleting the possibilities of many fare churning games played by passengers. What you book is what you pay. It was a common practice for solo passengers on MSC to avoid the solo passenger fare to book a ghost passenger that would be a "no show" at embarkation. There were several posters on this forum who boasted about his practice. One woman in particular would give the number of cruises that she booked her niece in the room with her knowing the niece was not ever going to come. MSC was aware of the scam and added penalties to the T&C. If you can't find a solo cabin at the Bella level, try going up a level. There may be a solo rate for that cabin.
  5. TabbyKats, same advice for you as given before, read the Terms and Conditions.
  6. Yes, part of the verbiage on the MSC website includes the statement that besides the cancellation fee of the second passenger, a additional 10% of the fare may be added for a single passenger.
  7. Make sure you read and understand the Terms and Conditions on the MSC website before you try to do a ghost second person. The T&C has very specific information on cancellation policies and "No Shows." MSC has caught on to the solo traveler booking a ghost cabin mate. It makes a difference.
  8. LOL - NCL cruise on NCL to Bermuda in 2010: We get on board and find out NCL use an Irish theme for Bermuda cruises from Boston. No notice of this when booking. Entertainment was a middle-senior high school age troupe of step dancers from a school in Queens. And those kids were dragged out for entertainment at every evening show and other events on board. Let's face it, once you've seen one step dance, the music and steps are the same whether it is the whole troupe, a duo, or single dancer. We pretty much wanted to shot ourselves as another "special treat" was offered such as the thirteen year old step dancer who won a medal and was now going to perform her award winning routine. There was also a comedian who was billed as the "funniest woman in Ireland." She hailed from Australia and was now floating around on a cruise ship in the Atlantic. She was not funny.
  9. For those of you who are worrying that children may be exposed to new music and new dance moves, don't be. If you don't make a big "clutch your pearls" scene, they probably won't notice anything any different that the gyrations seen in any music video or the hip and booty shaking, hands hooked into the belt with fingers pointed down to the pelvic movements (a/k/a line dancing) done to caterwauling Country Western Music.
  10. I can give you all a solution that we used when swimming in the Great South Bay (Long Island, NY) when we were kids, but I doubt very few would use it. It involves two pairs of tights, a one piece bathing suit (or swim shorts and tee shirt for a man) and petroleum jelly. Wear one pair of tights under your bathing suit as intended. Take the second pair of tights, cut a hole in the crotch large enough for your head. Wear that pair upside down with your arms in the legs and pulling the waist don to be under your swim wear top. You can cut partially through the foot area to make attached mittens. Anywhere else that is exposed, coat with a thick layer of petroleum jelly. Don't forget under the slit at the wrist if the foot has been cut. This will work. Yes, one may look ridiculous, but when everyone else is dressed the same, what does it matter? Hint: do not lie or sit in the sand after applying the petroleum jelly.
  11. Safety can be an issued on any length cruise or itinerary. Safety covers a wide range of issues besides behavior such as weather and fire hazard.
  12. Upgrade your cruise experience to Viking Ocean. The food is the same high quality in the MDR, the buffet, and the specialty restaurants. You can eat in any venue with as many entrees that you want.
  13. I feel your pain. I live in Florida so I expect to have different temperatures when I cruise (cool ocean breezes and cool shady areas on shore). I mean, make sure the temperatures are at least sweatshirt temperatures; i.e.; around 75 F.
  14. Whoops! Typical tourist error and I do know better. I climbed up to the Parthenon. The Acropolis is the whole area that includes the Parthenon.
  15. I was 69 when I did the climb up to the Acropolis. I have a left knee that I destroyed while in college and the predicted arthritis has set in. I do, however, take long bicycle rides to keep my muscles in shape. On this trip, I brought a collapsible cane to help on downhill slopes and rough walkways. It was August and blazing hot for some people. However, being from Florida (and for thirty years before that, the hellhole that is central Maryland in the summer), I found it just a normal summer day. The trip up was good, sloping walkways or stairs. The trip down put more stress on my knees and I went more slowly on the steeper stairs (use of stair handrails and going down side ways) and using the cane on the downhill slopes. Anyone attempting the climb should wear good walking shoes and be in good aerobic condition. Any physical mobility problems need to be carefully thought about by the climber.
  16. That is even better timing. Go later after dinner and I am sure you will find evidence of closed stations and limited offerings. "Buffetgate" must live on. Previous passengers have made it their mission to track down and document this crime against cruise ship dining. 🤪
  17. Even more fun to join in the conversation.... What? You aren't talking to me? How was I to know that you didn't want comments or suggestions?
  18. Shortcut to where? If you mean can you reached the elevators from your cabin by the marked hallway, yes, you can.
  19. If you want to learn about animal species native to Florida at a beautiful state park, I suggest you take a ninety minute drive north to the park in the link below. Depending on air and water temperature, wild manatees may be present in the spring run and main spring vent. In any case, the year round manatee residents will be be there. https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/ellie-schiller-homosassa-springs-wildlife-state-park
  20. Please go to the OV for dinner and document, with photos, all the empty food stations and limited offerings. 😉 It just isn't Celebrity cruise review if "Buffetgate" isn't included and complained about. 🙃
  21. Absolutely and from your previous posts, I now understand why you do not care for the MSC food. It would be like someone who has an appreciation for Mad Dog 2020 being offered a Chateau LaFitte product.
  22. The family that owns Moschello's came down from the NYC/LI area and , therefore, learned pizza as it came over from the Italian immigrants.
  23. For those of you who do not know the history of the Celebrity cruise line, Celebrity once was owned by Chandris. The X (Chi) is the first letter of the Chandris name in Greek. The X as a logo remained after the line was sold to Royal Caribbean. The freighter in the picture is owned by Chandris (Hellas) . The company remains active with cargo ships.
  24. Here is our experience on several NCL cruises. Like the OP, we prefer having the same waiter in the MDR and we prefer what is called early seating. We always use the dining room that has the more rigorous dress code. We always made reservations for the MDR as we left the dining room and requested the waiter that we preferred. After requesting the same time and waiter two nights in a row, the maître d' set us a standing reservation for the same time and waiter. For our cruises, the waiters did not serve the same table every night but moved around the dining room. As a result, we had the same time, same waiter but moved to whatever station he/she was working that night. By the way, no bribery is needed (twenty dollar handshake) to make the reservations.
  25. I noticed that. If you like pizza from Moschello's in Homosassa, you will like MSC pizza.
