  1. A multi-trip annual medical plan may work if your main concern is emergency medical coverage and emergency medical evacuation benefits during your trip. This type of plan offers coverage if your trip is entirely outside of your home country. A few things to keep in mind with this type of plan, it only covers travel outside of your home country and coverage for a sudden recurrence of a pre-existing condition may be limited. Also, there is typically a maximum trip length per trip that will be covered, so you would want to make sure that you choose one that will cover your longest trip duration. If you are looking to cover the cost of your trip as well as have coverage for delays, baggage loss, emergency medical and emergency medical evacuation, then you would want to look at a comprehensive travel insurance plan. Currently, these plans are only available to US residents and offered for single trips so each one would need to be insured separately.
  2. If you're asking if the insurance plan can be used for a future trip, the answer is maybe. It is at the provider's discretions, only if there are no claims being made against the original trip and the insured received all of their money. The insured would need to contact the insurance provider or the company that they purchased the insurance through to verify. If the customer files a trip cancellation claim that is paid, reimbursement goes back to the insured and could be used how they see fit. Some cruise lines may offer some non-insurance cancellation coverage, and if that's the case, the traveler would need to contact the cruise line to verify how it would work.
  3. At InsureMyTrip, we offer comprehensive travel insurance plans to U.S. residents. You don't necessarily need to be a U.S. citizen, but you would need to be a U.S. residents. There are also Travel Medical plans available to residents/citizens of most countries who are traveling outside of their home country. This type of plan focuses on emergency medical coverage and emergency medical evacuation while traveling abroad. With any plan, there may be residence/citizenship restrictions, so it's helpful to enter your information to obtain a quote through InsureMyTrip to see what may be available.
  4. Multi-trip annual plans will typically have a per-trip length that may not cover the full duration of longer trips. For longer trips it may make more sense to get a policy that covers that single trip. There may be a couple of options. First, if your trip is entirely outside of the U.S., you can look at a travel medical policy which primarily focuses on emergency medical and emergency evacuation coverage. A few things to keep in mind with this type of plan, it only covers travel outside of your home country and coverage for the sudden recurrence of a pre-existing condition may be limited. If your trip has both domestic and international destinations you can look at a comprehensive travel insurance policy which can include other benefits like trip cancellation/interruption, travel delay, baggage loss/delay. There plans may also include a pre-existing condition wavier if all eligibility requirements are met. If you are not concerned about cancellation or interruption coverage, some providers may allow a plan to be purchased without insuring the cost of the trip, a large factor in the cost of the policy.
  5. Some travel insurance plans do cover event tickets. However, id you pay for the tickets after arriving at your travel destination, you will not be covered. Your tickets must be paid for prior to leaving for the trips and those tickets must be non-refundable to be eligible for coverage. Remember to include the cost of the tickets in the overall cost of your trip and save your receipts.
  6. In the case of the three-year cruise cancellation, the cruise line offered fulled reimbursement, including other travel arrangements to those who no longer want to travel and rebooking those who do want to travel on the next expected departure. None of the comprehensive plans offer would offer coverage for a trip that is that long.It would most likely be something that would need special underwriting. Also, the cost of the trip could exceed the max trip cost for many plans. In this cast, the cruise line canceled the sailing due to not being able to secure a ship. That's not a covered reason for canceling and being reimbursed. I would say that there would most likely not be coverage for this type of cruise with traditional travel insurance and the traveler would nee to work with the cruise line for reimbursement of expenses.
  7. Some comprehensive travel insurance plans may offer coverage to cancel your trip if inclement weather causes a delay of a common carrier for a specific number of hours. Typically, just diverting a cruise would not be a covered reason for cancellation. Some plans may offer inconvenience benefits if the cruise is diverted to different ports after departure and you miss out on a prepaid, non-refundable excursion. We can't speak on the this specific traveler's situation because we don't know what coverage they may have had but it's important to read and understand the covered reason for cancellation and interruption and always try to work with the cruise line if a situation arises. For those who had trips books to Israel before the conflict broke out, if they had a comprehensive travel insurance lan, there may have been coverage for those who were departing within a certain period of time (typically 30 days) after the initial terrorist incident occurred. At this point, since the conflict/war has been ongoing, Cancel for Any Reason would most likely be the only option if someone had a trip booked and does not feel comfortable traveling.
  8. Some plans do offer post-departure benefits which can be purchased last minute - e.g., single-trip medical, evacuation memberships, and accidental death & dismemberment plans. However, you will not be eligible for the maximum amount of benefits. We advise not to wait when purchasing travel insurance (ideally a plan should be purchased right after putting money down on a trip) - in order to qualify for time-sensitive benefits like Cancel for Any Reason, or a pre-existing condition waiver. Also, if you purchase a plan after a storm is known and that storm impacts your travel plans - you will not be covered.
  9. InsureMyTrip is a travel insurance comparison site. We offer travelers options when it comes to travel insurance providers and plans. We do not sell travel insurance direct - so we're able to help you find the right police for your wants and needs, at a price you're comfortable with. Our customer care tram is also licensed and able to walk you through policies - what is and is not covered. InsureMyTrip customers also have access to our Anytime Advocates programs - which is designed to save travelers time and money. They will contact the travel insurance provider directly, on your behalf, to smooth out the claims process and if a claim is denied, the Advocates will work on your behalf to learn why or help with the appeal process. To put it simply, a travel agent may be an expert on travel, but InsureMyTrip is the travel insurance expert. Also, airline, cruise lines, and booking site all offer travel protection of some kind, but that coverage is usually extremely limited and may not cover what you expect it to cover. So, do your homework.
  10. I would recommend contacting the travel insurance provider, directly, to see if the policy can be canceled for a refund.
  11. Currently, InsureMyTrip does not offer a policy with trip cancellation only. Trip cancellation coverage is going to be part of a comprehensive medical plan which will have other benefits like trip interruption, travel delay, and baggage loss/delay. The benefits can all be helpful even if traveling domestically.
  12. We don't currently offer annual comprehensive travel insurance plans on InsureMyTrip.com - but there are annual medical plans which will only cover you while traveling internationally - if you need to seek emergency medical attention or emergency medical evacuation. If traveling domestically, or if you're looking to cover the cost of your trips, one thing to think about is what your main concerns are. If you're going to be traveling with kids on one trip, or taking a few expensive trips, it may be best to insure with separate single trip plans to cover the adequately. One thing to look out for on annual plans is that the trip cancellation amount may be an aggregate limit. This means the limit shown is the total amount covered for all trips - not per trip. So, it's important to know how much your trips may cost from the get-go.
