  1. AJ - Are you able to read the emailed room service menu? If so, can you send it on to me, please? lambs2 at earthlink, net

    Thanks!

    Marguerite :)

Just saw the ERROR in my email address!

(So much for my proofreading...) :o

  2. Strongly leaning toward booking the March 20 transatlantic sailing to Europe on Mediterranea. Would love to read some positive thoughts from those who have sailed on her recently. We have liked Costa in the past for its European ambience, but it has been 7 years since our last Costa sailing and some of the recent reviews have not helped set our minds at ease. Positives?

  3. Of course there will be luggage takers at the Barcelona port by 11AM. In my opinion, a better use of limited time might be to hire a taxi for you and your luggage to take you on a tour to see some of Barcelona's sites which includes the arrangement to have your tour end at the pier by 2 PM!

  4. Sad to read this. We have been on two previous Costa cruises. The first was on in 1997 on the Costa Atlantica and the food on that Western Caribbean sailing was truly DREADFUL - in fact so bad, that the last night we (DH, I and my in-laws) sent every dish back to the kitchen and dined only on baked potatoes! We did try Costa one more time ( very brave of us, but we have taken over 40 cruises on MANY lines), trying the Costa Magica in 2006. GREAT food and a really fun cruise that we thoroughly enjoyed!! So...we have been strongly considering the 23 night transatlantic on the Mediterranea from Miami to Italy departing March 20 from Miami, but there is absolutely no Cruise Critic member thread for it or any other discussion groups that I can find, and after reading this review we are a bit wary, although still tempted as the prices and itinerary are really good..... Losing a few pounds does not bother either of us a bit, but it seems a shame if the dining experience and service is truly as poor as described above. We absolutely LOVE cruising and there are a number of new ports on this itinerary we have never been to before. Thoughts???

  5. Remember that anything you put on your door is "fair game" for those that enjoy the sport of where did the door decorations go! I would not put anything I wanted to keep on the exterior door. Some seriously upset people on the last couple of cruises when their "special" decorations seemed to have walked away, never to be seen again. NCL would prefer you not do it, but I don't think they will do much if you do. They also will not do much if you lose your decorations.

Decorate at your own risk! I lost a nice magnetic welcome sign with a smiley face that just "walked away" one day on a recent cruise.

  6. We had a similar situation on our very first NCL cruise on the Aloha (now the Sky) in 2006. We had booked an inside and the cruise was CANCELLED:eek: NCL offered us a free cabin on an alternate date plus all our money back and they even gave us the $50. change fee for our airfare!! (We took the offer IMMEDIATELY!) THEN a couple weeks out we were upgraded to a port side balcony cabin!!! We have been very happy with NCL over the years since and are now at Platinum level.

  7. We book the itinerary not the ship. We spent 26 days on the Star last October and loved every minute.

Even though I missed the Spinnaker observation lounge I'd enjoyed on Jewel and Sun

I found other places to enjoy the views.

I didn't like having no windows in library so never read there on Sea days

but found other places to read that had a view.

The crew were outstanding and friendly. The dinner food in MDR imo was usually good, but a few misses.

I ate lunch every day in the buffet and had no complaints.

I enjoyed all the evening entertainment, but I'm easy to please.

Would I cruise again on the Star? A definite Yes!

I concur! Having sailed previously on the Star before the loss of its beautiful forward Spinnaker Lounge and movie theater, we were a bit hesitant to book the Star again, but we did (great prices). Were you on the 2013 fall transatlantic and or the northern Baltic that went to Iceland? We were B2B on those last year and had such a fabulous time! We are also platinums.

  8. Thank you! So agree with your assessment of the Star. We have sailed on her three times. The first was in Dec. 2011 on the Panama Canal sailing right before she was used for housing for the Vancouver Olympics and then dry-docked losing her beautiful forward Spinmaker observation lounge and the movie theater. Last fall we booked B2B cruises on her. First a northern Baltic itinerary, including Iceland, followed by her TA back to Miami. All 24 days were really wonderful and we would not hesitate to book the Star again if the itinerary fit our fancy!

  9. We had a very long delay entering the port for Los Angeles after a Panama Canal Cruise on the NCL Star in Dec 2009. Hours of delay as they also needed to personally meet with everyone on the ship in the Spinaker Lounge (very last sailing when it was still at the front of the ship). We were lucky to have been assigned to the very first group and got in line very early, but the Star totally lost control of the one "line" and it was just a crazy mess with folks missing their flights, etc. All we ever learned was that the Port Authority was late that day! Small comfort for those who missed their flights!

  10. It's worked the opposite way for us. We've never booked a suite, but have booked longer cruises in lower cost cabins. Now that we are platinum, we feel like we are treated royally even in an inside cabin. The reward to repeat customers makes us look at NCL first for a given itinerary.

To the OP, it took us six cruises as several were 20+ day back to backs.

Our path to platinum was very similar to the above account! We did not even realize we had reached platinum until the "goodies" begn appearing! Now we are hooked!!!

  11. Hubby and I are also on the Sept. 6 sailing. My husband will be wearing nice shorts and a golf shirt to dinner. Really hope they don't turn us away. We live in Florida and my husband never wears pants. That being said, I will make sure a pack 1 or 2 pair of pants.

My hubby and I are also Floridians and on the Sept 6 sailing too. Here is a link to our roll call board for this sailing if you want to join with us! :) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1993350

  12. My husband and I are trying to arrange a shore excursion using dailyistanbultours.com. So far there are 2 of us but we need 6-8 to book tour. Is anyone from the USA going to be on the MSC Preziosa sailing Sept. 27, 2014 or in Istanbul on Oct 1., 2014? Will you be willing to book a group tour with dailyistanbultours.com with us so we can get a better price than the cruise ship (80euros pp vs 103euros pp on ship)? This is my first posting on the message board.

Here is the link for the roll call group for your sailing on the Preziosa: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1953884

Introduce your self over there and I am sure you will find others to join your tour group, plus see if any other events are being planned for your sailing! Have a great cruise!
