My thoughts -- Caribbean Princess is about 6-7 years older than Equinox, and the two are pretty different in terms of decor. The Princess ship is very "old style" cruise ship whereas Equinox has a very different and more modern feeling.

As to entertainment, since you say it is important, Princess evening shows are notoriously short. I've often joked that I spent more time in the theater waiting for the show to start than actually watching it. (And that reminds me, the theaters on Princess seem too small, such that you need to arrive well in advance of the show to have any hope of reasonable seats -- although with post-COVID passengers levels, that may not be as much of a concern...)

Princess puts a lot into their passenger-participation entertainment. If you're a fan of all varieties of trivia and of watching passengers compete in take-offs of TV game shows, you'll like those offerings.

Cynically speaking, a Princess mini-suite has a few advantages but in truth is not that much different from a Celebrity balcony. Princess balcony rooms do not have any kind of couch or loveseat, btw.

thanks so much shows are what I love most about Celebrity

  4. for 6.4.2022 birtheday cruise it;s about $1500 cheaper on 7 day Caribbean Princess than the 8 night Celebrity Equinox

I can actually get a mini suite on Princess for about the same price as a balcony on Celebrity

Since both include free drinks wifi etc my Elite benefits are pretty much gone so that is out of the equation

Love a lot of things about cruising but the shows are my favorite, esp the vegas quality guests Celebrity has

any thought?  from what I read they are pretty equal

    thanks

    Pre-Cruise

We stayed at the Hyatt Centric in Las Olas. 100 times better than the Hyatt Centric in South Beach. We had a nice balcony and while we didn't have a view we had enough space and the hotel was in great shape with a very nice lobby bar and solid staff. It is not right by the beach but we love Las Olas and the restaurant and bar scene. The Happy Hours can't be beat!!

I was highly impressed with all the bartenders and servers we had while in Fort Lauderdale. Truly stellar service each place we went to and very happy staff who wanted to be exactly where they were. Love that!

    Cheers Everyone!

Great Info. was just looking at that hotel.  Thanks  Enjoy!

    Day 8 the end

We ate our last breakfast in the MDR and visited with a very fun couple – another great thing about cruising is meeting all of these really nice people.  Then we headed to the Tuscan Grille – we had another voicemail that that was where we could wait to be called as a Captain’s Club member.  When we got there I noticed the sign said for Elite and above – oh well, we were invited 😉 .  We also had been told in some fashion to wait in a section of the MDR as a Concierge Class guest.  We stayed til they practically kicked us off.  Our flight wasn’t until 1:10 out of Miami so we weren’t’ in any rush.  Our luggage was waiting so we went through customs, showed our passports and ordered our uber.  It was $63 by the time we actually ordered it, we looked earlier and it was closer to $75.  Our driver was disappointed to learn our final destination as he said he would just drive back to Ft. Lauderdale without a passenger.  Didn’t make us feel bad, but thought I’d mention it.  We booked a different departure airport because the direct flight from FLL to Austin wasn’t until 4 pm and we didn’t want to wait around that long.

Now we are home awaiting our January cruise aboard the Apex in a Sky Suite!

    Final thoughts:

Food – MDR food and service was excellent.  I think there was one dish Steve wasn’t especially pleased with, but overall everything was well prepared and delicious.  The Lawn Club Grill was excellent. Steak was perfectly cooked to our order.  Although we both ordered steak in the MDR as well and it was perfectly cooked as well.

Entertainment – we loved the acoustic duo Opalira the most.  We found them on the X app and made most of their evening shows.  The solo performer Keff was good but we would have preferred if he had his background loops pre-done instead of having that be part of his show.  The other groups were ok, but we’ve heard better.  As I said before, we weren’t impressed with the Broadway Boys. "Broken Strings" was excellent and what we have come to expect from X.  We talked to other passengers who went to other Theater productions and were not impressed.  It might be that the Reflection is so new to sailing again that the performers aren’t as prepared as they will be in the future.  I’m sure it will improve.

Concierge Stateroom – we loved our slanted balcony and the footstools!! Afternoon snack - we tried to let our cabin attendant know we would prefer fruit and cheese instead of the hors d'oeuvres.  We met our attendant on day 2 and forgot to make our request. When we saw him again on day 5 we asked him to bring fruit and cheese instead or to skip us for the snack.  We kept on getting the same thing.  We don’t like to eat some of the items because we didn’t know when they were delivered so were a little wary of eating something that has sat out for too long.  Anyway, next time we have a Concierge room we will try to make sure to express our desires sooner.  We did receive a voicemail invitation to the Concierge lunch at some point during the week.  We declined to go because it seemed silly when we could just go eat in the MDR for lunch anyway. On embarkation day, it is a nice treat because it’s not available to everyone. There was a bottle of wine when we first arrived which was nice.  In past cruises, I would ask for it at some point because I knew it was a perk, but always hate having to ask…

Cruising – we are so glad we took this particular cruise.  It was very special to be on a ship with only 900 passengers.  Almost every day we would receive a gift.  We left with 2 bottles of wine, 2 nice beach bags, 2 lanyards, a card holder and a nice framed photograph of the ship. The entire crew was very happy to be working again.  We heard about their families and their home countries during CoVid.  When we would start to say how hard it was to have cruises cancelled, we had to stop ourselves because these wonderful people were out of work for close to 2 years!  We are so thankful that X found a way to return to cruising in a safe, healthy way so the employees can come back to work and selfishly, so we can enjoy cruising again.

We were on the same cruise thanks for bringing back some great memories.  We sail her again in 2 weeks (1.2.22) and in 2.12.22   great to be back!

Thanks for all the finger crossing, folks! It totally worked! I arrived at my hotel at 10:45am and was able to check right in!

I’m staying at the Hyatt Centric Las Olas in one of their pool walkout patio rooms.  The patio has a little gate so you have direct access to the pool. The hotel is very modern and clean and on my way to the elevators I saw something I plan to ask Santa for for Christmas (see first pic below 😁).

There’s quite a bit of construction going on in the area and it took my Uber driver a few minutes to find the entrance in all the confusion (the driveway is like halfway up a ramp to a condo parking garage, it’s odd).

The pool area has an outdoor bar so I rewarded myself for sending my last work email by popping out my walkout and going over to get my first vacation margarita.  I sat out on my patio until I started to feel rain drops hitting me, which also helped me realize that my stomach was starting to rumble (such is life when you eat breakfast at 5:30 in the morning).

I just got back from lunch at the bar at the hotel restaurant.  I ordered the mahi-mahi tacos and washed them down with a nice French rose’.  I will say, I’m pretty impressed with the wine list here for a hotel bar.  But this is also a hotel with a champagne vending machine, so it follows, I guess.

When I checked in, the front desk gave me a little card good for one free “Absolut cocktail” at the hotel bar.  I was a little skeptical that it was a bait and switch of some kind so I was planning not to use it.  Then while I was sitting at lunch I saw the bartender make the cocktail for someone else who was redeeming their coupon and realized it was an awesome opportunity to relive childhood memories (see the pics, they’ll explain).  When I ordered, the bartender asked what flavors I tend to like in my cocktails and used that profile to make the fresh fruit mix for my drink.

I’m about to take a little nap then do one more check in with the office and FaceTime with the hubby at home then chromecast some Netflix to the room tv until it’s time to get ready for dinner.

I asked the pool bartender for a recommendation for a good upscale seafood restaurant near the hotel for dinner and he  suggested that I try a place called Lobster Bar Sea Grill a couple of blocks away, so I’ve made myself a reservation on OpenTable for later this evening.

So far my trip is off to a great start!

No, also you will have to provide proof of vaccination at least 5 times during boarding. We did last month on the Edge. We are boarding on Monday on the Silhouette and have been asked already and expect to be asked again for proof several times.

On Nov 13,2021 Reflection we were only asked once to show our vaccination card.  Hopefully

    that is the new norm.

It may be that your cruise didn’t have any open upgrades? My booking is a fully comped cruise with a paid upgrade and I have a move up offer.

Here is the email I got from Celebrity about not being able to do the move up offer

".. Unfortunately, your reservation is not eligible for the MoveUp program as it is a casino reservation..."

With the ships not being full I was hoping I could get a good deal on a suite..

The only reason this ridiculous situation exists is because Celebrity considers a 9 out of 10 to be a failure, and the crew are trying to ensure that people like me, who would normally score very good service as an 8 or 9, are aware of this quirky approach that serves no one very well.

so u could rate someone 9 thinking they were amazing and Celebrity will think u did horrible

I found that article, too. It seems panicky of the CDC and others down the line ( like cruise industry) that protocols are being changed for vaccinated people based on a small study that seems to confirm that vaccinations help greatly! Frustrating!

    Yes very Frustrating
