  1. For each of our previous cruises I decorated our door. However, I don't know if I will do it going forward. Reason...the last 2 cruises kids ripped them off our doors. The decorations were commemorating our anniversary and these brats literally ripped them off the door threw them in the hall and stairway. So disappointing. I actually caught 2 of them red-handed and was able to identify them later to ship staff who notified their parents. One kid was made to apologize and the parents were genuinely mortified. The other (kid and parent) seemed to not care whatsoever (i.e. kids will be kids sort of thing). Its a shame because I love decorating our door and looking at the other decorated doors as well. Some people are really creative and go way out. But to answer your question, Carnival isn't strict about the decor, but I always try to stay within the guidelines.

  2. When a ship prepares to go into restricted waters (like into port), or get underway, the anchors are prepped for instant use in case of emergency, so all of the "safety devices" are removed, and the anchors are holding just on their brake bands. Sometimes, if the bands are not tightened enough, severe vibrations, like when a ship gets going too fast in shallow water (the propeller wake bounces off the bottom and vibrates the ship), the windlass brake band can slip, and the anchor fall under its weight to the sea bed. It's embarrassing, but it does happen.

    Good info! Thanks!

Again, I'm sure you're not really SUPPOSED to throw food to these birds, but EVERYONE was at their balcony doing so, and my mom used to say something like "If all of your friends jumped off a bridge, you should do it too" (or something like that, maybe I'm remembering that saying wrong). :-)

We also did a little shopping in Progresso. It wasn't a bad little town, just nothing special.

    That's too funny!!:'):')

  4. My heart dropped when I saw your post. I thought I messed up. Lol

Last week I changed our Magic 8/25 cruise to The Horizon out of NY on 8/28.

We are in NJ and after figuring in airfare, car service, and precruise hotel in Port Canaveral it was about the same cost to drive to NY and do a Family Harbour suite on Horizon.

I love the Dream class ships and was really looking forward to The Magic but it is so much easier to just drive an hour to NY for Horizon.

I just checked and the Magic price for an ocean suite is the same as the casino rate I had when I booked in January and the Horizon has gone up $700!

    Congrats on your price drop!

Thanks. I would LOVE to be able to drive to port in an hour again! We moved to NC from MD where we could have driven to Baltimore in 45 minutes. Now the closest port is 3 hours which still isn't too bad. However, we love the cruise itineraries out of FL.

  5. May I ask which island/excursion? The ones that have been doing this the longest and are the most reputable KNOW ship time is what they and we (cruisers) need to be concerned with. And most of them know these ships arrival departure times better than we do. We've never done a ship sponsored tour and have always told them the ship time. Not one has asked US to figure island time for them.
