Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I wouldn't say its a bad experience. We had excursions at almost every port and excursions are generally first in line for tender. They work quickly and efficiently and will load entire tenders in at a time and then immediately take off. I don't recall ever having to wait in line long and we were never late to anything. We tendered at all ports of our trip. They use the ships life boats. They can smell strongly of fuel and rock a bit. You exit out of the side of the ship and walk down stairs over the water to a small platform. Two people from the ship will assist you down into the tender. Just plan on all of your belongings being tucked away into your bag and wear sturdy shoes and you'll be okay. At one point we were in Les Saints on the top of Fort Napoleon before an afternoon excursion. I realized that I left our excursion tickets on the ship with like 30 minutes until the excursion start. We ran down the mountain, tendered back to the ship, ran to our room, side tracked to grab a super quick lunch, then tendered back with a few minutes to spare before the excursion began. It helps that its a small ship and there was usually a ship staff member on excursions with us. You get to know everyone really quickly/ they get to know you. Enjoy your trip!
  2. I would stay put. We were in 149. The second deck seemed to be busier day to day. 221 is also in the watertight zone, which limits your mobility when arriving and departing ports.
  3. Zeno, I just got off the Windsurf and made mental notes regarding mobility throughout the ship. On decks 1 and 2, midship, the water tight doors close when arriving and departing port, leaving only access to the stairs. We were forward, so the watertight doors did not affect us. However, the forward elevator broke early on day 2 and was not repaired during our cruise. There are several exterior areas where you have to step up or step over a threshold to continue walking on the deck. Hallways are narrow. We were meant to dock at a few ports, but due to circumstances, we ended up tendering at every port except for the beginning and ending ports. The process to get into the tender at our first few ports was kind of hairy. I felt nervous for how rough the sea was and how the tender kept bobbing and weaving in the water. I could not imagine doing it with any mobility considerations. Affected cabins by watertight doors are: 214-217, 220-227, 101-112, 114-115.
  4. We had a few singles on our cruise. They were treated no differently. There aren't really organized get togethers through Windstar, but when you seat for meals, you can chose to sit alone or not. In the beginning, we sat just the two of us, but by the end, we'd eat with friends we made on the cruise. If you hang out in public areas (there arn't that many of them), you will definitely have a friend group by the end. We never went anywhere without seeing a few new friends.
  5. We booked this tour on our January 2023 cruise (through Windstar Cruises). We paid $179pp and it lasted 4.5 hours. The description included: Drive through Brades to Woodlands and Salem First stop is at Runaway Ghaut to see the natural spring water Continue to Richmond Hills to see birds eye view of the Buried City from the Montserrat Springs Hotel Drive through abandoned villages Stand on the Buried City to see what used to be the deep water harbor Continue to Woodlands Beach where lunch is provided. Relax under a canopy of almond trees. You will have time to browse local craft dealers' stands and take a piece of Montserrat home with you. My first note is that the people of Montserrat are incredibly nice and thankful for the visitors. They really made everyone feel welcomed. The history and stories of the buried city were amazing. I was excited about this excursion, but unprepared for the level of information they would provide. The top of Richmond Hills at the old Montserrat Springs Hotel was the first hint of what we would get into, as you're walking around the pool of what used to be a beautiful hotel. When we got to the main attraction of the tour, they showed us pictures of what the area we were standing on used to look like, so you could imagine how much of the landscape had truly changed. Our guide showed us where her brand new dream home was located when the volcanic eruption occurred. Two things that were misleading about this excursion. First, we never did stop at the spring, only drove by. Old folklore says that if you drink from the spring mountain water, you will return to Montserrat. Other buses on our tour stopped, but ours did not and that was disappointing. Second, in the notes of our tour description, we were encouraged to bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, and towel for the time at Woodlands Beach. Although the beach was beautiful, it was definitely not a swimming location, so a swimsuit and towel are unnecessary. Above that, we were only there for about 10 minutes. What they didn't tell us is that it would be beautiful, shimmery black sand, so a very worthwhile visit. There was one craft booth, so we did not get souvenirs. Best to do that closer to the pier- but it is not a traditional cruise pier. There were 2-3 stands. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone. Just don't bring your swimsuit 🙂
  6. We were recently on a cruise to St Kitts and Nevis, January 2023. We knew we wanted to go to Nevis, so we booked the only cruise excursion with Nevis as an option - Nevis Plantation and Beach Tour. We were particularly excited about Alexander Hamilton's birthplace. (Notes: We were on Windstar Cruises, but have seen this excursion on other cruise lines. We paid $139pp and it was 5 hours.) Excursion Description: Catamaran ride to Nevis Van for panoramic tour of Nevis Pause for photo at Hamilton House Stop at St Thomas Lowland Church, the oldest Anglican Church in the Caribbean The *highlight* of the tour is Nisbet Plantation Pinney's Beach for a Caribbean style lunch served beachside. Included beach chair and umbrella The catamaran ride was great. The crew was lovely and attentive. The Nevis tour guide was great too. Very personable and cared about sharing his knowledge with us. He made sure we knew Nevis is pronounced Knee-vis. 🙂 The tour did make a brief stop at Hamilton House, where we stood outside the gates and took pictures. The guide said it was because it was a Sunday, it was closed so we couldn't enter. This stop was within the first 10 minutes, as since this was our highlight of the day, we were just along for the ride the rest of the way. We drove around Nevis a good bit, stopping by the bath houses, old hotels, cricket stadium. We drove by St Thomas Lowland Church, but again because it was Sunday, we could not enter. Pinneys Beach was great. The restaurant was closed (Sunday), but they served a wonderful meal. Everyone on the excursion raved about the option they selected. The beach was almost completely empty. The sand and beach were great. We spent the duration of time in the water, as it was the first warm day of our vacation. We don't recall ever going to or near a plantation (as the title and description suggest). Looking at a map of Nevis, I am sure we never went to that direction of the island, and Google Maps shows that the plantation is permanently closed. I am not upset about plans changing due to circumstances, but there was no reason for us not to be informed that certain parts of the tour were closed due to it being a Sunday. We could have used this information to use our time and money selecting a more fulfilling experience. In the end, Pinney's Beach made the excursion worth while, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time what we were not getting out of what we paid for.
  7. I feel this. My cruise just decreased in price by $2000. I asked for an upgraded room, OBC, or laundry to be included. They said no. I'm kind of disappointed. Especially since I booked during a "special" and now the price is down $1,000 per person from the "special" price.
  8. Did you end up staying in 149 on Wind Surf? If so, can you describe it? Noisy, smelly, can you see anything out the port hole, etc? Thanks!
