    Cruise Director

He has been just okay. Nothing really memorable or exciting about him, other than the way he says, "Bye Bye," at the end of every announcement.

I’m not absolutely positive regarding this comment but my guess is the “bye-bye” at the end of the announcement is from Captain Tuvo (I think he’s your captain). Captain Tuvo is Italian so if the announcer’s accent is British, then the CD also utilizes Captain Tuvo’s signature sign-off.

I agree with your assessment regarding most all CDs: it really doesn’t matter to me who they are and there are very few who I’ve had direct interactions with and/or who are memorable, regardless of the cruise line.

Again, thank you for sharing all of the information about your cruise with us!!

Oops - see you caught it and edited it lol

It can be hard to keep up when you’re switching from one forum to another.  👍

Now, if I was in a YC lounge right now, I would order a salted caramel espresso martini to wake up then maybe I wouldn’t make silly mistakes!!

And @FamilyAtSea.travel, really enjoying your thread…thank you so very much for taking the time to post!

Surely a masquerade mask has to come from Venice

Whenever we finally get to cruise Cunard and a masquerade evening is part of the schedule, I plan on wearing the necktie I bought in Venice that depicts the cityscape…even if it’s not a proper tie for a black tie evening, it sure would seem to be a proper tie for the theme!

I’m going to give y’all some South Louisiana advice. If you’re north of Alexandria LA and it says gumbo be careful. If you’re on the high seas stay far away!!😁

I’m Mrs Dock B and I heartily concur!! I’m from Alexandria and only eat gumbo when south of there!

  5. @DaKahuna thank you for the written ship-tour explanation, as our review of the deck plans were not as clear as your description! We’ve been on Seaside and Seashore, but their layout is different enough from Divina that we wanted further input—we really appreciate your help!

Now just waiting on the travel agent to return DWs call…

Enjoy the rest of your cruise!!

  6. @DaKahuna if you have a moment to offer an opinion, DW and I would really appreciate your insight.

We are considering a Divina cruise in YC (this will be our 3rd MSC YC cruise) and would like a cabin as far aft on deck 15 as possible. I realize there are a couple of HC cabins there so we wouldn’t get one of those. My question is: are these YC cabins too close to the public elevators or the pool area where we’d be disturbed by noise?

Thank you for your thoughts and for your review.

Tada chair. Google it. About as inconspicuous as you’ll find.
Don’t let vanity put you in a position where you’ll eventually fall and hurt yourself in no small way.

Thank you for this post. My DW looked into getting me a TaDa chair and was able to get it on sale right after Thanksgiving. However, after using it on a 10 day cruise along with 4 other days of vacation on that trip which required navigating airports, planes, hotels, shuttles, cruise terminals, ship, ports, etc. it was worth even the regular price!

She saw a gentleman traveling with his family who was using a cane with the 3 legs and round seat (seems the other 2 stick-out-legs and/or the seat that doesn’t fold could cause a trip if the cane got rotated), showed the family my TaDa chair. They were so thankful for the information. So you have helped at least 2 families: thank you!

Tip for using it at the airport: I didn’t need it on our outbound flight so we had it in the carry bag. TSA did not put it through the X-ray machine but handed it off to an agent to be examined. So on the return flight, I had it out of the bag using it and the agent simply had me put it through the X-ray. Having it X-rayed saved time at security and we didn’t have to feel as if we were blocking others while waiting for it to be examined.

Again, thank you for sharing this information!

  8. Just off Seashore 12/17. The themes then were tropical, flower (like 60’s & 70’s), and white. There were also casual attire and elegant nights.

Most of the theme festivities didn’t seem to start until 1030pm though people dressed the themes (if they wanted to) starting in the late afternoon/early evening.

DW and I did bring the attire and (mostly) wore it but didn’t attend any of the themed activities. For us on future MSC cruises, we probably won’t try as hard to bring those theme-type clothes unless they happen to be items we’d likely wear on any cruise, regardless of any theme just because we still won’t attend those late night parties (or probably not attend—never say never!).

  9. Mrs B here again regarding the rhinestones: some rhinestones are not actually clear all the way through like a real gemstone is. Take special care as many rhinestones have a metallic backing that could be removed if using anything abrasive like a brush…and keep in mind that toothpaste can be abrasive.

There will be MSC staff near the elevators, just approach them and explain the problem and you will be accommodated.

Yes, thank you! I too will need some accommodation and cannot do the stairs, even down, for more than maybe 1 flight and that’s kinda iffy.

  11. Mrs. B replying here!!

I use a small container that’s big enough to hold the piece. I’ll squirt a bit of glass cleaner (without ammonia) into the container (I tend to use a small lid from a bottle…think size of Worcestershire bottle) then put in my diamonds or other sturdy stones into the liquid to soak a minute or two. Then brush with a small brush or even a clean, old toothbrush. Rinse well and dry. I also blow through the prongs to help remove any excess water.

NOTE: don’t do this on pearls, turquoise or likely any other opaque semi-precious gem, or opals!! Be gentle with emeralds and any stones that may have been treated to make them look better than the stone would be in its natural state as use of chemicals could change the look of the stone.

I will occasionally use silver polish on my sterling pieces, being careful to avoid any gems as the polish gunks up the setting. But once polished (and for pieces with the softer stones as mentioned above) you can keep sterling shiny & tarnish free with a jewelers rouge cloth. I also keep anti-tarnish strips in my jewelry boxes; it’s the air that causes tarnish.

The jewelers rouge cloth also will shine up gold & platinum metal.

I think for other metals and rhinestones, maybe only use water and a gentle brushing. Be aware that our costume jewelry may have parts that were glued…if that glue is water based…well, you might end up with stones getting loose and falling out.

When in doubt (especially with softer stones, rhinestones, and non-precious metals), less is more and maybe doing nothing is better. And if you have a trusted jeweler, then have them clean pieces you are unsure of (pay attention to what they do so you can do it the next time).

You also might do an internet search regarding the metal or stone you want to clean and read several ideas about how others do this. I’m betting there are jewelers and/or manufacturers who have put instructions out there.

I’ve only said what I do; I’m not a jeweler or an expert on this.

  12. We also disembark Seashore on 12/17. We originally had a 1235 flight that day that we changed to the morning of 12/18 for the very reasons mentioned above. Someone else had asked a similar question regarding flights from MCO after returning to PC; the responses given above were the same, which is why we changed our flight.

Another point that had been made in that other thread was that 12/17 is a Sunday so MCO is likely even busier due to folks returning home from doing theme parks.

  13. We now include waterproof band aids after an incident on a cruise: getting off a tender, a lady with long fingernails was jostled and accidentally cut my hand with her nail. I was on blood thinners at the time so bleeding was more than would normally occur.

My DW had a little first aid hit with her so we had items to patch me up however, it was steamy in the Caribbean along with a light shower, and a regular band aid wouldn’t stay on. Fortunately, my SIL happened to have a waterproof one, which then stayed on perfectly.
