We were in 12518 and we heard nothing from the jogging track. Loved the cabin, great value considering the size of the cabin. With all the windows we never missed the balcony. Would not hesitate to book it again.
Thanks. Is there a separate area (vanity area) like the aft suites have? I didn't see this area in any pictures?

Getting ready to book our first SJ suite on the Star as we normally book the aft penthouse suite. This will be a change for us not having a balcony. Any preference in cabin numbers? I have plenty of choices to pick from as it is wide open. Any comments on 12518, 12520 or 12516?
I read about noise from the jogging track and will like to avoid those cabins.

Just read in one of the posts here that when you have to wait to be seated for dinner that they give you a pager and coupons for a glass of champagne at a bar close by. Anyone experience this?
We were on the Jewel couple weeks ago and they gave us a pager and coupons for champagne. By the time we got our champagne the pager went off.

We were on the Jewel for her first stop in Trujillo and I can tell you that it is not a "pitiful" place. There are shore excursions offered by Norwegian, very nice beaches within walking distance of the port with bars and restaurants, a quaint town square with a small souvenir market, the immediate port area is brand new with bars, shops and a restaurant. Above all....the locals are very nice and very happy to have tourism come to their small town.
I personally found it to be very refreshing to visit a port that has not been so commercialized by the tourism industry.
We were on the 2nd sailing of the Jewel to Trujillo and I agree with your review. It was nice to visit a new port.

We sail next Saturday and hoping to leave on time.

We never thought we would make it but due to some unbelieveable circumstances I am cruising on the Gem 11/9 with my DD, DSIN and 2 kids, 18 month and 3.
We are in a 2 bedroom suite. This is from some who has done a balcony once, an ocenview once and lots of insides.
Don't know the Gem, the kids have not sailed in years and the grandkids never.
Please give us the down and out details of what to expect. We are excitedly looking forward to it but know there will be limitations with the kids. I am grandma but will take time for myself to decompress.
Any info would be greatly appreciated and is there a DVD in the 2 bedroom family suite.
Many thanks from all 5 of us!
I've sailed in a 2 bedroom suite last year on Gem. The cabin is amazing, plenty of room and the bathroom is very big. There are 4 TV's and 1 DVD in the living room. You will love it!

Enjoyed your pictures. We will be sailing on her in 15 days for the 4th time.:)
-
Great pictures! We will be sailing on her in less than one month!:D

We never had any problems exchanging for red or white wines. Just take it to any bar and they will do it for ya.:)

Yes, you would *think* they'd have it figured out by then! And the weird part was, I recognized that woman from several of our cruises - she's always there in the pier building, which made me think they were "trying" something new. John wasn't happy when he heard what I told him.
Chocolate night is very nice - I can't say how much I loved that Hazelnut Milk Chocolate bar!
Do you remember which night it was on your cruise? The Hazelnut milk bar sounds yummy!:)

Yes for sure - a change is needed. I like going to the shows, but I'd like more of a variety from cruise to cruise and especially from year to year!
But to be fair, we have seen some really great acts over the years on NCL with world champion magicians, ventriloquists, hypnotists, impressionists, comedians and so on.
I may be in the minority here but I was really glad that the improv group (whose name is escaping me right now) wasn't on board our ship. I really did not enjoy them but they were on our last 4-5 cruises.
Do you mean Second City? I seem them at least 5-6 times and it's always the same. It's supposed to be improv, but many of the lines are the same on each cruise we been on.

Enjoyed reading your review. We will be on the Jewel in October in a suite and looking forward to the cruise. We had a 2 bedroom suite last year on the Gem and also loved the room! It was so big! We also seen Band on the Run so many times and Oh What a Night. I think it's time for a change.;)

Rock climbing was free and bowling $5. Check the daily for times.

31 August Update: The Jewel:
Hotel Director: Ignacio Garcia Alvarez until September 13th
Steven Jacobsen: 13 September until?
We have sailed with Steven Jacobsen on 2 other cruises and he's a great guy. Looking forward to seeing him again in Oct.

We're sailing on the Jewel in Oct in a suite on deck 8. We have the exact cabin that we sailed couple years ago. No problem with noise or anything. Smaller than deck 10, but it's a suite.:)
-
We enjoy the Red Lion Pub for drinks, popcorn and music.:)
-
I also had an aft balcony on the Breakaway and yes it was huge! We too had 2 chairs, 2 lounges and 2 small tables. Plenty of room. View is awesome from the aft.:)

We are sailing on the Jewel in October and this will be our 3rd time on her. Love the Jewel class ships and never experienced any problems.
-
We also sailed on both the Southward and Skyward in the early 80's. Way before freestyle cruising. Enjoyed them both!:)

The Cobalt Blue Martini. It's not on the menu anymore, but they'll still make it for you at Shaker's. It's vodka, blue curaco, and iniskillin ice wine. The ice wine is what makes it. So yummy. I also enjoy the Rebellious Fish when I don't want martinis.
I have to agree with ya on these 2 drinks. They are my favorite.:)

We will be on the Jewel in October!:D Looking forward to sailing again on her!

I think they should make another level for those that have been loyal to NCL
Currently you can make Platinum really quickly
I agree with ya!

We also told our Butler no canapes and instead he brought mini sandwiches with chips, pretzel rolls, cheese and crackers and chocolates. We always had a full plate of assorted cookies and bowl of nuts. In fact we had too much food each evening and would invite fellow cruisers to our suite for drinks and snacks.:)

I was able to get a price reduction on my cruises and still kept all the promotions.:D
