  1. On my second Oasis Class cruise on the Allure, I noticed that there was only two propeller washes/cavitation trails, so, in the engine room control center I noticed that the center Pod wasn't showing any telemetry that it was functioning. I didn't get a chance to ask question about it in there. When we got to the bridge, again, I could see that, I believe it was, the center Pod didn't seem to have any telemetry showing that it was functioning. So, I asked. Man you would of though I asked them for the worlds most sensitive and classified information. The mumbling and stumbling of the words was remarkable. After being a little relentless with the question(s), they finally admitted that the center (again, I believe it was the center Pod) Pod had issues, (I don't remember the issues) and that it had been like that for a cruises or two and that they are safe and authorized to run with only 2 Pods providing propulsion and that the Pod was going to be fixed during their next scheduled dry dock (when ?). After the cruise, I went into an Internet website (so you know it's true and factual) and saw that it was reported that the Allure was running on just 2 Pods. No big deal. BTW, I never felt unsafe or anything like that on the cruise.
  2. LOL. Saw the "door", not the inside. That was on Rustbucket. I don't remember seeing it on RCCL, my have, just don't remember it. But, you are right, there is one sure way to get to see it and that doesn't even require paying for a tour.
  3. Does Royal take Pinnacles for granted? I'd say, no more or less than other categories. But then, I haven't experience all categories, either.
  4. Makes me wonder - if, for medical purposes one can being on Oxygen bottles on a ship, why not those small little CO2 cartridges (if not allowed)? Yes, I understand CO2 and oxygen are very different things. But, neither are flammable, in and of themselves. I'd say CO2 is/should be allowed on a cruise ship. Just my thoughts and still wondering!
  5. I'm not a seafood fan. However, I do like a lot of shrimp (just about any style, as long as it doesn't smell fishy, not fresh) and some lobster. I must say, that looks great!
  6. I like all the above, as a matter of fact, I love all the above. So, this is not to disparage your post. But, I have to ask (and this is mainly and intended to be somewhat humours), if I put pulled pork and wrap it with a Peda, does that make it Armenian? If I put Canadian Bacon on an Tortilla, does that make it Can-Mex?
  7. That's a change since I worked/retired from FLL and Port Everglades, admittedly sever years ago. And according to WPLG, Channel 10 in Miami, it was in response to COVID and I bet MIA made some concessions, but I don't know that. I retired long before that.
  8. Because I have a special place in my heart for MOST of the crew on a cruise ship, when I get a drink I always try to make sure the server gets at least a total of 20%, which means I always leave an extra tip. However, it is never less than a buck, I usually try to get a couple hundred dollars in 2 dollar bills before I cruise, so often the minimum of a buck is actually $2.00 and above by 2s. Only exception are bad servers. By bad, I mean, unfriendly, uncaring, unwhatever. I don't necessarily consider speed, especially if the venue is busy. But, as I said, 20% + is my desired goal. I consider tip cash as disposable money for the hard working crew.
  9. First, just to answer you above. Yes, I fully understand that there the system that drives the props isn't driven directly by the "engines", the electric "motors" do that. But, the Oasis Class, and I'm sure others, the props are on individual pods that also act as the aft side propulsion/thrusters. There are differences between the Oasis Class engines vs non-pod type propulsion systems. EDITED IN: I hit submit when I got here by mistake, I'll continue: Not only that I'm sure since the Dream was built there has been a lot of Technical advancements that I'd like to see/learn about. Any way, this is all obfuscation. Go back to my original post in this thread. I just expressed my desire to go on tours on RCCL and into their engine rooms. Then the pushback. I just don't understand why people can't just state their desires and move on without ridicule or being challenged. Can't we just express our opinions and desires without the B.S.
  10. I don't know, that's why I'd like to take a tour. Geeeesh. And you just obfuscated from my question to you!
  11. Great pictures. I really don't see why that type room is considered an obstructed view. Unless it is because of the limited view to the left and right and the bow obstructs the full ocean view. I don't think you are missing anything up or down.
  12. WOW, that sucks. Especially if you are loyal to the MDR and/or WJ, which I'm not. If I was a fan of the WJ, will I am for Breakfast (bacon), I'd be there for the Fish & Chips and the Chinese food. I do appreciate your updates!! Thank you.
  13. Again, my prospective: I'm sure that the difference between an engine room on Rustbucket's Dream vs RCCL's Allure is enormous. Speaking of enormous, just the size alone of the room, engines, motors, et al, is of enormous interest, at least to me. The propulsion systems are different, some have shafts leading to the props and on Oasis Class it's a shaft leading to the electrical generator that feeds the entire ship and the propulsion system, which I haven't seen, only read about. The tours alone could be very different. One person giving a tour will focus on certain things while another person will focus on others. So, it could take multiple tours of the same thing to get a lot of differing information. If I saw the same engine room several times, I'm sure I'd see different things, of interest, every time. So, yes, I would like to physically see the engine room on every class ship that I cruise. You are entitled to your prospective and opinion(s). As am I. I'm not trying to change your mind about anything, I'm just stating what I've experienced and what I'd like to experience in the future. But, I'm a very curious and inquisitive person.
  14. So, what are you saying? Did you cruise during a different time frame, different rules/options/tours as I did, my wife did, and my cruising buddies did? Or am I lying?
  15. Yes, I've watched them as well. Very good series, for sure.
  16. Which is part of the Ship's Structure. SMH BTW: "Since these oceanview cabins are at the front (4N cabins face forward and off to the sides, both sides) of the ship on several decks, what is the obstruction?" The question did not single out the "Forward Facing" cabins. The only other mentions of the "Forward Facing" cabins that you made were about "spaces", "crew closets", "crew doors", not Obstructions.
  17. Just my perspective: Those of us that haven't spent a career in engine rooms, it is an experience that can only be achieved by actually being in the room, hearing the sounds, feeling the vibrations, and smell the smells,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Watching it on a CCTV just ain't the same. I've seen car engines and worked in garages for years but I always want to look under the hood on just about every muscle car, antique car, and/or any unique cars I see. I can see and understand your prospective. I too have worked in a very unique environment/facility and have developed, to some degree, a professional insensitivity to it. I could just say, watch Cops. But, your experiences with ship's engine rooms is unique to only a small group. A perspective that very very few have experienced but would like to at least see/experience the environment first hand, up close, and personal. As stated, this is my perspective of the topic.
  18. On Rustbucket we actually walked thru a door to a "catwalk" and back thru a second door. I think the entire walk on the "catwalk" was about 15-20 feet. There were stairs leading down from the "catwalk" to the engine room floor, but it was chained off and a security attendant standing by. From what I observed, you could eat off the floor and, well, just about every surface, truly amazing. No photography allowed. It was a great experience! I'd love to see the engine room of an Oasis Class ship.
  19. Yep, I must have skipped over the "New Years Cruise" part. I'm still curious about the other questions. But, the OP seem to have gone AWOL! Exactly!
  20. On the Ovation last May my card peeled several times. On the Independence last Oct/ Nov, no problem.
  21. Therein lies the problem. As much as I hate to say this, Rustbucket Cruise Lines actually gave you a short, very short time in the actual engine room. You actually got to experience the noise and vibrations. It was kewl. All the tours I've been on with RCCL did not include the actual engine room. My first tour, Oasis of the Seas, it was a big big big disappointment. But, the Bridge and Galley portions were much better on RCCL. Oh, on Rustbucket, we actually got to go behind the stage and into the costume area and a cast member describe the actual production. The only thing we didn't get to see was below the stage. On RCCL, we got to stand on the stage, got a short briefing by someone and that was it. Overall, I'd still go with RCCL, especially on Oasis Class Ships.
  22. BTW, did you tell others that they "should" tip more? If you did, I don't s see it. I don't recall anybody saying that, do you?
  23. I guess that's very possible. However, there has been times where it was a first time server that didn't take my card or ask any questions, I just had it in my lanyard where the sticker was visible but the numbers or names weren't, at least at that distance and/or pace of activity. But, it has been established and I've said it, my OP question is not valid. I'll move on.
