  1. So the afternoon arrives and we bid our goodbyes to Glacier Bay and head towards Ketchikan. About an hour after leaving Glacier Bay, the Captain announces that we will be making an emergency stop to drop off a sick passenger. I don't remember the name of the port where we docked. You could only see trees and it didn't look like a heavily populated place, but what do I know. Maybe someone who was on this trip will remember. Anyway, this delayed us for about 90 minutes.

We were on this cruise too! Great pictures. The emergency stop was at Icy Strait.

  2. Hi Bob,

Sounds like you had a wonderful cruise again like we did last year when we sailed with you. I didn't see this LIVE until today. We got back last week from a 10 day roundtrip from San Francisco to Alaska, not the TA we originally planned but a wonderful cruise with fantastic weather. Next year hopefully we will get to do a couple TA's again, they are our favorite.

  3. Couple questions about filling out the application.

    1. It asks for any previous last name you used. When I fill in my maiden it sends me back to update my profile but there is no place to put you maiden name.

    2. Also it asks for your maternal name, does that need to be filled out?

    Thanks!

  4. That's correct. At 1:29 on the video, you get the first glimpse of the arrival hall. Looking straight ahead, you can see Caffe Nero; looking slightly to the right, you can see the sign "Food and Drink." (When the camera continues its pan to the right, you realize the sign indicates a section of Boots.) Both of those locations are already beyond Travelex.

Technically, there are two branches of Travelex in Terminal 2 so you'll need to clarify which one your car service means. The map that was linked in post #5 of this thread shows the location of the two Travelex locations. Most likely, the car service means #21 on the map. (24 being the other Travelex location near the infamous "Information Desk.") If so, here's what you should look for:

You will actually see Travelex before you see the stores shown on the video. It is almost in a straight line forward from the lane where travelers walk emerging from the luggage hall. And just to relate Travelex's position to what is being shown on the video, if you are standing in the same position as the person who recorded the video (facing Caffe Nero), do an about-face and walk forwards. You will bump into the Travelex desk.

Thank you. Your right it is #21. Also thanks for pointing out there are 2 Travelex locations so I could confirm the correct one.
  5. We just returned from our cruise and we used 247 Airport transfer to and from the cruise ship in Harwich.

They met us at the Travelex in Terminal 2. They drove us to Harwich to embark on our cruise and 2 weeks later they picked us up in Harwich and drove us to a hotel at Heathrow. We have absolutely no complaints. The drivers were prompt, courteous and friendly. We received a 10% discount as first time users. Their pricepoint was less than many transport services I queried.

Where exactly is Travelex in Terminal 2? I watched the video & didn't see it.

    Thanks!

    John Bull,

Which 24/7 are you referring to there's more than one operator in London with 24 7 in their so I would like to know the correct website? I'm trying to book a car from Heathrow to a London hotel.

    Thanks

  8. If you're talking about Totally Driven, their on-line form asks about extra free minutes and then gives you choices ranging from 15 to 90 minutes. As I found out, if you specify 60 minutes, the driver doesn't show up until 60 minutes after you land. If you're NOT in the arrival hall at that point, you start eating into the 30 free extra minutes.

It appears you're asking about scheduling a pick up 45 minutes after the plan lands. We landed at a non-prime time (7:45 PM) and it took us 70 minutes to go through passport control and to claim our luggage. If you'll be taking an overnight flight, many, many more flights arrive in that early morning time frame, and you'll find the lines are longer and the luggage pick up may be slower.

If you want more advice, you'll have to provide additional details like arrival time and the country whose passport you'll be carrying.

We are arriving at 6:00 AM with a US passport. Last year when we arrived at that time we were thru customs really quickly as the airport was empty. Just wondering if that was the norm? The receipt I received states the driver will meet you 15 minutes after your plane lands & you have an additional 30 minutes of free waiting time.
  9. With over 4000 posts one would think you know haw to use "search " for the many many threads on this subject.....

However,we use Www.totallydriven.co.uk and have for many years. Very good service at good prices.

If you look at the arrival hall map, you'll see that the clock essentially lies along one edge of the U-shaped area.

As to where we met, here's a link to a post in which I detailed our story.

You wrote "our" so I assume you're traveling with someone who, presumably, isn't blind and can help you look. That, combined with my advance warning and map, should make your meet-up easier.

They give you 30 minutes of free waiting time would you think an extra 15 minutes would be enough waiting time?

    Thanks!

  10. If you use Totally Driven, and you're arriving at Terminal 2, just be aware that they specify the meet-up point as the Information desk. In reality, there is no structure that I'd call an information desk. Even the map of the arrivals hall, (See URL below) confirms my comment, and my recent difficulty wasn't simply a matter of being sleep deprived.

Looking at the arrivals hall map, there is a U-shaped area. That's a wall with the word "Information" posted there. Also, number five on the map, labeled the Information desk is in fact a clock on a pole. Now, a clock on a pole is a perfectly fine meet up point, but it is not an Information desk.

In the important ways -- showing up on the agreed-upon date/time and a correctly sized car -- Totally Driven was fine. And, knowing about the Information desk issues in Terminal 2, you'll probably have no problems using their service. (I can't speak about the existence or lack of existence of an Information Desk in other Terminals.)

Thanks for your help. So exactly where did they meet you in the U-shaped area or by the pole with the clock? We are arriving at terminal two

    Thanks!

  11. Going to the airline site and using the confirmation number works great for American, and United Airlines. We choose our own seating location, and have never had a change happen.

Many overseas carriers don't support this (e.g. British Airways doesn't support early seat assignment without paying more).

It used to work for American. I did pick my seats on when I booked the flight with ezair but to change them I can't now myself on the American site but I can call Princess & they can make the change. Before I could always change them myself on American even before they are ticketed. United I can still change the seats myself even before they are ticketed.
  12. We use CSA Travel Insurance as we also have no medical coverage outside the US. They cover pre-existing conditions as long as you buy it before final payment. I've had to use it a few times for visits to the ships health center & they always pay after my own insurance rejects the claim. I like the Princess Insurance cancel for any reason clause but having good medical coverage is more important to us. We also have MedJet Assist.

  13. Did this cruise last March and stayed at the Marriott in the Airport.

It works great as Princess bus picks you up at the hotel. The bad part if you want to get to the cruise terminal early you leave around 10:30 to 11am and it's about a 50 ride to the cruise port which will be full of passangers.

If we stay at the airport we would stay at the Marriott too. Did you arrange through Princess or the Marriott to be picked up at the hotel? I'd rather go back to the airport if it meant leaving for the port earlier.
