Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. @papaflamingo My comments agree with yours 100%. Our cruise had substandard Panama Canal enrichment. That seems to have been corrected by your cruise. My major criticism. Glad you enjoyed the cruise.
  2. I only want to add that we were in penthouse 606 for the Miami to LA cruise over Christmas/New Year’s. The cabin was quiet, no neighbor noise (thank you neighbors) and no wind leakage. It was the best ship cabin we have experienced. We had other criticisms of the cruise, but the cabin was more than nice.
  3. @marycruzMy wife says you’re welcome. Enjoy the ship. It’s like an art museum at sea.
  4. My wife found it sufficient. I had no use for it.
  5. @GMIAC We had, in my opinion, great enrichment lectures on Christopher Columbus (Jay Levy) and the Ocean (Dr. Ranelli). But the PC enrichment was non-existent.
  6. Our major criticism of the cruise was the Panama Canal crossing. This was not our first crossing. On Holland America we had previews, lectures and in room videos about the Canal, the building of the Canal, etc. We also had an “expert” to ask questions about the Canal. On this cruise nothing. Then we had a heavily accented “guide” narrating from the bridge. After the crossing there was a session with the “guide” in a lounge with minimal room. This was totally unacceptable. When I spoke with the CD about all my concerns, he said it was too late when they tried to get someone. When I asked about YouTube videos, I got some ***** and bull about licensing and “corporate.” Unacceptable.
  7. @marycruz My wife tells me the night table between the bed and the veranda has the mirror and har dryer outlet. I don’t like using a hair dryer, so I didn’t know.
  8. We were in 606 on Grandeur for Christmas New Year through the Canal to LA. It was wonderful and convenient. 2 decks above Compass Rose and the Theater. We usually took the stairs right out of the door. No extraneous noise. Great butler - Rajib- could not have been more helpful.
  9. We were also on that cruise and had similar comments. The chair hog issue was annoying both around the pool shaded areas and in the non-assigned seat dining (pool and veranda). Jorge (George) in the Compass Rose was a dream. For the second consecutive Christmas New Year cruise we had our “son” Nino as our waiter. We also had MANY wonderful personnel in the dining venues. Our Penthouse on deck 6 was comfortable and quiet. Rajib, our butler, could not have been more helpful. Cannot really comment on food because we had Kosher proteins. Everything was custom cooked and delicious. When we didn’t have the Kosher, we had fish or veggie. No complaints about anything. We are appreciative of RSSC and look forward to our 3 currently booked cruises.
  10. Overall, this reflects our experience as well. Many staff members recognized us from a previous Splendor cruise. Minor problem, Splendor is the only RSSC ship we have been on. I guess we looked like some one else. Not an issue. When we had our first dinner at CR, we heard a call “momma and papa.” We looked up and it was Nino, our waiter from Navigator last year who we “adopted.” Needless to say, we had superb cuisine in CR for the entire cruise. We had a special dietary requirement (Kosher Proteins) which were carefully taken care of. We were advised in another thread to seek out Denver. When we met him, we quickly had our dedicated breakfast server. We were not in a real rush for any meals, so we didn’t mind any waits and our food was always well prepared and proper temperature. What can I say (ok, write) about Jorge (George, as he preferred). He was WONDERFUL. He knew our seating preferences for breakfast and dinner and always found us wonderful locations with our Nino. He was also fun to talk with and just a mensch. Pardon my New York-ese. We have nothing to criticize here. We were in a Penthouse with a fabulous butler, Rajib. On a previous cruise we had unfortunate butler experiences. Rajib was always a call away and anticipated all our needs (once he knew what they were). With the Kosher Proteins, we had to notify CR or Prime 7 ahead of time so they could defrost and prepare them. Rajib was a great interface. … and he kept my pretzel dish full in the cabin. We were not happy with the Panama Canal crossing. We expected to have some orientation/enrichment in the Theater about the building and features of the Canal. NOTHING! When I asked the CD about this, I got some “answers” like licensing and other excuses. NONSENSE! When we crossed on Holland America, we had an expert speaker, videos, videos available on the cabin tvs, etc. Grandeur had Dr. Ranelli (sp?) aboard for other superb enrichments who could have been giving Canal enrichment. Then, they had a Canal pilot (or someone) give a talk in the Meridian Lounge. You have a ship with 750 passengers and have the talk in a space for less than 100 people. The ship and the Canal were our reasons for cruising. This was unacceptable, in our opinion. I could not get the RSSC appraisal “app” to stop blowing up, so I gave up. Well, I’m tired and I’ve written enough. Someone asked my overall opinion, I answered 8.9 and an incomplete. I may enhance later on. Also the best Internet on any cruise. Thank you Elon for Starlink.
  11. I can experience surprise, wonder and awe even though I know beforehand how awesome it is. My wife and I were in awe of the Prayer Wheels outside Pacific Rim on Explorer. We saw it in a video, but being face to face was awe inspiring.
  12. Watched the Christening this afternoon. It was very well done. Some of the speeches were a bit long. We should all wish Andrea the best. The entertainment with Kristin was great. The only thing I would like to see are some real videos of the ship! Before we board in a week, I would love to see the things that will interest me.
  13. Rather not have a missile land on their ship No. At least on our past 4 cruises. I refuse to wear a jacket and tie since retirement.
  14. Where did they dock you guys? Usually terminal J. Doesn’t look that way.
