  1. Where can I find transatlantic weather predictions for cruises? The crossing will be Canaries to Carribbean so I would expect warm. But I could be very wrong with the wind. Not sure what to expect.
  2. Thank you so much. Yes I shall take a look at the family cruise forum. Yes we are avoiding short cruises from certain ports. Looking at 2 or 3 weeks transatlantic departing from more reserved European countries. We like the luxury of quieter cultured holidays with space, taking a cruise for the children is a big step. It may be a once only adventure so we will make the most of it.
  3. Thank you. Yes AIDA has balcony cabins that are the same height as the promenade that runs next to it, not beneath it. These are apparently family balcony rooms. I am hesitant to try Royal Caribbean. We will be going on a Transatlantic cruise. 12 to 20 nights departing from Europe preferably. I had looked at the Queen Mary 2, as it would be my choice, but I do believe my children will have fun with the activities of the more mainstream cruise lines as opposed to a traditional ocean liner.
  4. Where in Europe is €5 too much to tip? Bring notes, buy a small item and get change asking for coins. €50 is the most common note and you can use it to buy something inexpensive like gum or coffee from anywhere no problem. Just a quick update. European and American wages are similar.
  5. Do pop back to let us know how you all enjoyed your cruise and any tips
  6. They are young enough to need help eating, getting dressed and can not be left alone, especially on a balcony, in a pool and by railings. Very far away from being teenagers. We wish to see the Carribbean with them and bring grandma and grandpa too. We need pools, slides and kids clubs with informal, flexible dining. We absolutely do not want to be on a party boat as it would be quite inappropriate to expose them to alcohol influenced young adults. Which cruise line ships offer large inside cabins? I was looking at ground floor balconies, AIDA cruises appear to have large balconies that are almost at deck level that trades privacy to guarantee safety and still provide outside space for us to relax while they nap in the room. Maybe we will also not feel like isolated parents due to the walkway that is next to the balcony.
  7. If you book a European cruise line like MSC or AIDA the gratuities are included in the advertised price. No surprise $500 a week additional cabin expense. If you have a problem. You get a refund. It is European law to pay humans a minimum wage and LAW to advertise the final price of goods or services. Booking American cruise lines through European travel agents will frequently include the price of the gratuities, especially in Germany. Top tip for Americans and for people who do not like tipping culture. In general Europeans find it shameful and low class to expect guests to pay for staff wages directly.
  8. If you take a private excursion make sure you have the correct time! I greatly dislike group excursions and prefer to be organised myself.
  9. Hello, Please share your tips for a very young family of 4 taking a cruise. We have many questions, especially around the safety of the balcony, ship common areas and ease of dining. The interior cabins appear smaller but come with the peace of mind of no surprise balcony chair leaning. We are not set on which line we will go with just yet, but we wish to avoid 24/7 party boats aimed at 20 something's or loud people. We want a family friendly cruise for multi generational passengers.
  10. Next time refer to it as BoatyMcBoatFace Google for a smile, if you don't get it.
  11. I have found the lengthy You Tube reviews of ships often show the cabin and they tend to be in interior cabins themselves. Look for the ones over 30 minutes long and skim through quickly to see the cabins. I have slept on the upper beds as a fully grown human and found them very comfortable. And the room would be fine for a short cruise. Maybe a travel agent could help you get the room you need?
