Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Stupid Question again, sorry… there seems to be conflicting information on “the site that shall not be named” groups regarding the 15 drinks limit on board.. some people seem to be under the impression it’s a 15 alcoholic drinks limit and no limit on soft drinks, mock tails etc. however some people are saying it’s 15 drinks in total, alcoholic or not. could anyone verify please? thanks :)
  2. Do P&O still do the Beer Flights on board? I remember reading about one a little while back that sounded very intriguing (Banana Bread beer etc.) but now I can't remember where it was I read it and it doesn't seem to be on the main drinks menu.. unless I'm being dumb... again... 😆
  3. I book a speciality restaurant but that will probably only be on one occasion on the entire cruise. Any other time when it comes to dining in MDRs I like to head up there at a time when I start feeling peckish (usually around 6.30-7pm) and if I have to wait to be seated, that's the way it is. I sailed with Marella last year and had no problems with having to wait for tables etc. but often found I was queueing for about 10 minutes. And if a problem was ever to arise that there was no way I could get a table, or the wait would be more than an hour I'd head to the buffet instead. 🙂 I very rarely go to the theatre shows either, unless there's something that I really want to see.. I enjoy taking part in the quizzes and gameshows elsewhere on the ship, so having to leave half of my meal just to go an get a seat in the theatre is never really a worry for me. 🙂
  4. It's really not that deep for me. Queueing for, for example, 15 minutes to get seated in a restaurant is nothing IMO. I could be queueing at the bar for that long for a drink waiting for the app to tell me my table's ready. I didn't say I enjoy it either, I'd just rather do that than rely on technology where theres always a chance of the system going down or glitching resulting in massive queues at the restaurant doors anyway and hoards of hungry passengers potentially getting agressive with the staff (who I know have no control over how the system works)
  5. We've gone for the classic drinks package. Worked out the best for us. We're not raging alcoholics but we do enjoy a few drinks when we're on holidays and like not having to worry about a bill at the end of the holiday... besides we'll probably more than cover the costs each day with the Diet Cokes and Red Bulls that are included also. 🙂
  6. I'm not a fan of all this pre-booking and joining virtual queues malarkey... I'm old fashioned in the way that I wanna go and eat when I feel ready to, not when an app tells me to. I've got no qualms about queueing up and waiting. I'm afraid I don't like sharing either. In one of the bars, no problem, take that spare seat and I'll talk your ear off after a few shandies but I prefer to have my "own" table when it comes to dinner. 🙂
  7. Do all the necessary muster bits and bobs, go get some food and maybe duck into a bar and have a cheeky “yay we made it!” cocktail then back to the cabin to unpack, have a shower and get ready for dinner. Luckily when we go on Britannia our first “full day” is a sea day so plenty of time to explore 🙂
  8. I did this on my recent Marella cruise excursions despite having a sticker as well. (Especially in Trieste as both Explorer1&2 were docked) It settles any panic I may have that I’ll get separated from the group or that I’ve got the wrong ‘meeting point’ etc. and I will be doing it with P&O too! 🙂
  9. Regarding the ability to (at the moment) order a bottle of spirits via room service, My friend and I will be sharing a cabin but enjoy different spirits. Could we for example order a bottle of Pink gin and a bottle of Jack Daniels or is there a rule of only one litre of spirit per cabin for the duration? TIA 🙂
  10. Evening all! I know I’m getting too far ahead of myself and that my cruise is quite some time away yet (I feel like a child going to Disney, to be honest!) but I was just wondering for those of you who have done British cruises and had Kirkwall as a port of call on your itinerary, was there ever an excursion to tour the Highland Park distillery? My friend who is joining me on the cruise won’t drink any other whisky and I’m sure she would love to be able to walk around it and maybe have a ‘wee dram’ or four! Thanks! ☺️ p.s I’m aware that the distillery is currently closed and having a refurb but this will be completed by the time we go 🙂
  11. I sailed with Thomson in 2011 and they weren't all inclusive as standard. I had to pay for all my drinks. My parents got a free AI upgrade because we were on board at the time of their silver wedding anniversary, as I was in a different cabin and a relatively poor 20 year old with a zero-hour contract bartending job, I couldn't afford the AI upgrade 😞 yet somehow I still didn't break £100 on board spend for the week, and I bought myself two bottles of perfume too! Those were the days!
  12. Having not cruised with P&O before I’ll just take your word for that one but for me, personally, there seems to be a lot of decent offerings and a lot of reasonable substitutions should I drink them dry of pink gin 😂
  13. I don't think as many people as you seem to think will cancel their cruise just because they can't take a litre of spirits on board. People don't go on cruises just to be able to have a drink on their balcony.. Don't get me wrong I'm a bit disappointed I wont be able to take a bottle of Southern Comfort, but I can certainly do without it for two weeks, with the (IMO) generous choices on drinks menus I won't be going thirsty.
  14. So it looks like the no spirits on board is all but official now and straight away people are advising how to get round it or announcing they’ll get spirits on board somehow.. exactly the reason for these new changes, no? A small few trying to dodge the rules and in the end ruin it for everyone else..
  15. I've got in (super) quick and booked my drinks package now, before any increase comes along! It wouldn't surprise me if P&O did do away with the allowance to take spirits on board seeing as so many people think that it's ok to bend the rules to suit themselves when it comes to this, advising people to smuggle more on board etc. .. It seems P&O don't have Southern Comfort on board which is a shame for me and I was considering taking a bottle on board but never mind - at least they have Pink Gin!
