  1. Sorry, I pulled the list from the Celebrity site. Retired ships weren't linked from their ships page.
  2. That's different - one of my employers had escalators in the building. Weekly, I'd be approaching the end with people standing at the landing where they stepped off unaware the people behind them had nowhere to go & couldn't prevent running into them. I haven't seen this happen in malls but I could imagine this happening on embarkation quite a bit.
  3. I posted 2 other polls recently - but they all have had quite a bit of participation so someone else must have found value in them. Cruise Critic doesn't have to 'commission' polls do they? Any member of the forum can raise one. I did search 'polls' first and didn't see any recent ones asking. But maybe that isn't the right way to find them - if I've overlooked a better way, let me know. I created one poll for decision making around my current cruise - but I added options so I could use it for future cruise decisions. If you look at the results, you can clearly see the opinions by the responders. If asked in a thread fashion, the answer is hard to decipher because the bulk of responses are the opinions of the most 'vocal' on the boards.
  4. Ageist yes, frivolous not at all. MSC and Carnival mega ships out of US have lots of youth on them & my NCL cruise into Panama had about 10 people younger than me on the entire ship. The atmosphere onboard is quite a bit different. I'd easily say the 'atmosphere' onboard may be one of the most difficult things to determine when deciding between ships and cruise lines. For me, I think atmosphere has a great deal to do with how much I love a cruise. I personally LOVED every minute of the cruise with all older passengers, but I'm the youngest of all my siblings and cousins so I find it easier to meet older strangers than my own age group. That is not the case with most of my friends. When I was in my 20s I had no interest in drinking around people my parents' age who might give me disapproving looks for my behavior. Now that I'm at the age of a grandparent, I don't want to be on a ship surrounded by drunk 20 year olds. I don't want to be on vacation with hoards of their kids either. A great number of posts under Celebrity is about dislike for changes that are popular for the younger crowd & millennials take a beating in many of the threads. The OP said nothing with the intention of offending. Those posters will not be thrilled with the last Carnival cruise I was on. Seems to be a double standard.
  5. This is what I'm hoping I find to be true on Beyond too. My decision for my next cruise was based on food reputation and fewer kids (wasn't aware this has become an issue post-covid til I read reviews). I have cruised Carnival & NCL in past. I chose between RC & Celebrity due to price point, theater options, and food. Princess ships didn't wow me, and MSC seemed like a step downward.
  6. Choose your favorite Celebrity ship! It doesn't have to be what you consider the best ship. Some of the best ships may have major issues that make them undesirable to someone. You don't have to justify or even know why a particular ship is your favorite - it just is. But if you know why, comments are appreciated. Multi-choice for those who just can't decide. Please check the last entry along with your answer if your true favorite belongs to another line.
  7. I think you read that differently than I intended. I agree you specifically playing your music (your ambiance) loud enough to drown out any noise someone else is making is perfectly fine. If I knew what you were doing, I'd find it funny. But if 3 others started cranking up different songs, I sure hope I had my earplugs with me.
  8. You were about to get asked a 'celebrity' question.. lol
  9. If no one else is near enough to be doubly bothered, I think it's perfectly fine to make your own ambiance. I saw blue tooth speakers on a 'not allowed' list on one of the lines I researched (not sure if it was celebrity) - I have never seen them on a ship so I don't know if there was an issue or if it is preventative.
  10. I have wireless earbuds that I try to take anywhere I might want to drown out background noise - most public spaces, some pubs, beaches, planes, cruise ships. Mine are waterproof and very comfortable to wear and have a setting how much background noise they cancel out. Usually I don't mind if people are on phones as long as they are talking like the other person is next to them and they don't slow down lines and such. But then there's the type that are talking loudly because they want everyone to hear their conversation - earbuds go in. Making more noise makes it worse on others around me - and so far this has been the best solution I've found.
  11. Are you on a holiday cruise or land based pool? Which ship?
  12. I am a member but I never knew this section existed. Thanks for the quick responses.
  13. Has anyone 'procured' their own lounger while onboard?
  14. My first cruise was on Carnival Conquest - pretty sure it didn't have a slide back then - and it has 35 sq ft balconies. We had 2 loungers on it. We lay them diagonal & we had to climb over one to get onto the second one. Suddenly 7 extra sq foot and floor space is more important than being able to sit in a comfortable chair. I can understand that someone in their 70s could stumble across the tight setup, but these tiny chairs...ugh!. I feel like some RC group was in charge of furnishing the balconies across all their lines and that group was likely the average age of 30 and shops in Ikea. A decision could easily have been made off of aesthetics of clean lines and how photos looked, not comfort. When I was 30 I could sleep on the floor without back pain. I didn't care if my car suspension rattled my skeleton. The money has been spent and some group has to prove what a great job they did - replacing the chairs will do just the opposite.
  15. Yes, you got me. "Really?" and I actually looked it up..
  16. Sooo. Have we reached an agreement whether all celebrity ships are for people older than 55?
  17. Let's search the Internet for a list of events - response: Vietnam JFK assassination, Martin Luther King assassination, Bobby Kennedy assassination Kent State University Shootings Oh and there was the first moon landing... Wow - the Internet is not very positive how it describes the generation. I'm not even going to search on mine; I don't want to know. La, la, la, la, la, la...
  18. I don't know where someone found these gift Was this over a particular holiday or something? I searched AARP for 'Celebrity' and 'cruise' and the gift cards aren't being returned in the search. I feel like the deal has gone away.
  19. I have issues for a few hours when they are making site changes or when my booking hits particular milestones. Probably the most significant was when early checking became available for my cruise. That was a few hours of errors but I'm not experiencing issues right now. A few hours is the longest I've had issues, although they did disconnect my cruise from my account once. I could not correct that without their help.
  20. Uh oh - you might be one of the introverts that purchased the unlimited drink package... Stay off the railings.
  21. I'm Gen x - I agree & I think this may be the only time in my lifetime I've started an entry, chat, email or anything with "I'm Gen x". Besides the Millennials and boomers, I feel like we all know which gen we belong to (due to the Ethan Hawke film). But we are the ones joining the label "senior citizens" right now, so I don't refer to myself as 'young' anymore 😞 I will ask my 22 yo if she knows and identifies with her gen. But be aware, about 5 to 10 years ago she asked my oldest sister if she rode in covered wagons and such when she was growing up.
  22. I think you may agree that someone hasn't seen an introvert with an unlimited drink package.
  23. The quick answer is you have the wrong cruise line - go to ship reviews on YT for the buffet of whichever ship you are considering (be sure it is departing from similar port - Galveston, Fort Lauderdale & London will have different demographics) & look in the background for the people ordering in line or sitting at tables. You may have provided more details of how you ended up on a Celebrity cruise in the first place, but no Celebrity ship is going to feel like Carnival's crowd. Its passengers seek a more 'refined' experience and the atmosphere 'feels' older - hence you not relating to the passenger age comments of your friends. The larger & newer Celebrity ships are targeting the younger crowd, but younger is subjective - 50 is a younger crowd on Celebrity. Of everything I've online, the "youth" attracted to Celebrity's new ships are either artsy or health/exercise type - not really clubby. Look for ships with cheaper booze package pricing & more physical activity onboard. Look for multiple non-main dining food venues (more selection - and included in fare) rather than elevated food quality. Ships that have slides (to my knowledge, no Celebrity ship has a water slide) and surfing simulators will draw more of the 30 and under crowd. Those ships are going to draw more parents with kids also. Virgin is arguable the most successful line to pull the largest percentage of young adults without kids (no children allowed). The crowd is likely what your friends will like best and if you can swing the price, it's worth checking out since it offers much of what Celebrity offers. I'm making a big assumption your interests heavily defined the cruise selection for the group, and you still want something Celebrity offers (you did not even hint what that was). If I were trying to accommodate your group on a budget, I'd seriously consider the larger Royal Caribbean and Norwegian ships as well. Do not select a Norwegian ship with no slides - those ships pull an older age crowd on average. NCLs larger ships pull hoards of solo passengers in comparison to other lines I've been on. Other lines may have single friends sailing together, but larger NCL ships have groups of solo passengers - often broken into groups of 10 to 20 - running around the ship together.
